At first I thought this thread meant Portis was shooting his mouth off to the media and I got worried, the fact that he's closing his trap and focusing on proving them wrong on the field... Well all I can say is let's do this Portis!

you know, if portis is gonna screw up, i'd rather him do it when it did it, early in the season when everyone else is screwing up, too. get it out of your system. learn from it. be a better player. Good for him.

Weak, Portis. If the media made him look bad, all they had to do was use his own words to do it. If he thinks the play-calling is predictable, he should take it up with his coaches on Monday, not the media. He brought this on himself and now wants to lay it off on the media. Weak.

I think he's trying to say, he never meant the comments to be interpreted the way they were.

Exactly....Why couldn't he schedul e a meeting w Gibbs and Co and express his concern...in house and away from outsiders....

Whilst I agree that this should all happen behind closed doors. If Clinton did mean to say we have been predictable, I back him because we have been. Trouble is you just dont say these things to the media.

hi long time reader (well at the beginning of the year, but i became a fan middle of last season so i can say i'm not a bandwagoner), first time poster.
saw this interview with portis at ign.com
http://sports.ign.com/articles/554/554956p1.html
in it he has answers a question about the whole browns game.
he says that he wasn't trying to say that they knew the plays or coach gibbs wasn't calling plays well enough.
i believe him (granted clinton portis is my favorite player). if you look at the situation where the question was asked, after a 3rd straight lose right after the game, you can guess that he was not picking and choosing his words to get across his message. and then everything gets out and becomes a national topic, of course he is going to be mad at the media because they are the one continually running the story and making him come off questioning the coaches.
i agree that his choice of words shouldn't have been used and that coach bugel is right in that portis should have held his tongue, because when people are mad things are said that people don't mean entirelly.
but i think that portis shouldn't be the focal point of so much distain. its not like that was the only thing he said. he did look in the mirror and say that he needs to step up. especially in the browns game where he could of spread it to coles and said that the star players need to step up. he said that coles shouldn't blame himself and the responsibility of all the loses were his and his alone.
so as coach bugel has said its the past and we should forget about it.
woop see meant to say he wasn't picking and choosing his words.

Portis is frustrated and he has every reason to be frustrated he went from a well oiled offensive machine to a team still tryng to get a new system off the ground. I think Portis will be settling down soon as he hits his groove in his new offence, then watch out.
As for Ray Lewis "Ray ain't no Antonio {Pierce}, lets not kid ourselves"

Like I said, Portis should be frustrated....AT HIMSELF

I dont think Portis felt his comments should have been interpreted as "Gibbs' offense sucks"; as the media were quick to say thats exactly wat Portis meant. Thats why he's angry. To him those comments were just about the Browns' game and what they were doing; and in his mind were in no way disparaging remarks about the current offense. The media chose to blow it up and make a big deal of it becuz in the media's best interest it makes for a more compelling story to say that Gibbs is antiquated.
So, I understand why he's upset. Personally, I thought nothing of his comments until the media felt the need to interpret what was said. These guys love to stir up conflict where none exists. I live in Lala land so I know that media device all to well.

Great find, East Coast. The media blew this thing way out of proporation again. Maybe the offense is predictable and maybe it is a good thing that it has come out this way, but I dont think the intention was to diss Gibbs.

Even though Portis needs to step his game up and play like the superstar he is, I definitely agree with the beef he has with the media.
Take for example how Sportscenter led the story... They said something very close to "Trouble in Washington as Clinton Portis calls the Gibbs gameplan weak". Then they show a big long clip of Portis talking and he says nothing remotely close to that. Did Portis cross the line either way? Perhaps. But not nearly to the extent the media wanted us to think.
So yeah I think Portis can shun the media but the best way to shut them up would be to run all over the Baltimore Ravens and get in the end zone a couple times on Sunday Night. So let's see it.

Whats the deal with Ray"the most over rated player in the NFL" Lewis. Thats one thing I cant stand about Lewis he runs his mouth way too much. That whole team in Balt. does. As for Portis he will be put up some numbers once this offence gets it together.

Ok in an effort to help out the admins i'm not starting a new post as this thread kinda relates.
Just saw Portis on ESPN being interviewed and he said that after the game he did make the statement that it seemed like the Browns knew where the play was going before the snap. he said he heard them say its going to the right or theyre running right here. he went on to say that after reviewing the tapes he saw where we still gained 5 or 6 yards on a couple of the plays in question. He said utimately the blame was his for not holding on to the rock. He said eveyone goes through some struggles in their career and he is experiencing his now. He stated that he was never questioning gibbs or his playcalling and seemed emphatic about making it clear he and gibbs had no beef.
On Ray lewis and his comments that Portis and Holmes arent even on the same level, Portis had the following to say. He said that he wasnt worried about ray Lewis , that he said his rookie year he didnt think he was that spectacular and now in his 3rd his thoughts were the same. He said he was no punk, or wuss, he wasnt going to go run and hide that he was coming to play. he also said he thought holmes was a great back but that he was basically confident in his own ability and wasnt concerened about what Priest did.
