a friend of mine from HS called me this morning to say she was in town and asked me to come hang out with her and have dinner. she was on the paralympic volleyball team (paralympics are the olympics for the "disabled" though most of them give no indication that they are disabled and they happen in the olympic city 2 weeks after the "real" olympiad) anyway, they came in 3rd in the tournament and got the bronze and are meeting with the president tomorrow. anyway, i thought it was gonna just be a low key evening with the paralympians and i was excited because Lori's one of my best friends and i hadn't seen her in about a year...well....i get there and sit down for dinner and look over my shoulder and lo and behold there's Paul Hamm. Then over the other shoulder is Rulan Gardner. Lori had failed to mention that this was the entire US Olympic delegation we were having dinner with. The one guy that I really liked and was a cool guy to hang out with was the weight lifter in all the commercials, Shane (can't remember his last name). He just acted like one of the guys and was fun to be around. Anyway, my latest brush with fame in this fine city.
