A Lakewood Republican stealing campaign signs late one night got nabbed when he ran across a low- hanging driveway chain, fell face first onto a pilfered sign and the concrete and knocked himself unconscious.

Randal Wagner, 50, was loaded into an ambulance, treated at Lutheran Medical Center for abrasions and facial cuts and issued a summons.

Wagner, who unsuccessfully tried to steal a "Dave Thomas" congressional sign that evening, had signs for other Democratic candidates in his Toyota pickup, Wheat Ridge police reported.

"I did a very stupid thing," Wagner said Monday, admitting theft of the signs. "I got caught up in the political passions of this highly contested election."

Wagner said that he and his wife, Jan, who was driving their pickup that night, "want to apologize to the people" they have offended.

"Everybody has a right to express their political opinions," Randal Wagner said.

Jan Wagner, who was not cited, said she did not want to discuss what happened. She also is a Republican.

Regardless if you are a Repub or Dem, no one should be stealing campaign signs.

Now, if we (Frederick co.) can only keep those libs from Montgomery co. from coming up here and stealing our signs.

Frankly I wish all those damn "lawn signs" would disappear forever ! Up here in the most politically corrupt state in the union, there are more "signs" than STOP signs and traffic lights. And the worst part is that after the election they are still there! Bah Humbug ! Every political operative should have a lawn sign stuck up his butt and be roasted on a spit!!!

Of course. I count the signs on my way to the polls and vote by who has the most signs. Last year I wrote in "work from home and earn $15 per hour". Not sure how he did though.

I volunteer in the local dem head quarters and have heard stories. One guy swore he had signs stole from his yard twice, so the third one he made it a little custom. He said he got little fish hooks across the top, this should stop em' was his quote. not sure that is the right method for me but to each his own.

Haha, this reminds me of a story my firend told me. He's a bush supporter and had one sign in his yard. HE went outside and the sign had been torn up, so his dad bought 4 signs, and those were all destroyed. So his dad bought 4 more, and he hid out in his living room, and when the punk kids came to destroy his signs, he jumped out of the house and demanded $15 for the destroyed sign, or he would call their parents.
