Here are two sources to interesting articles . . . Read them and enjoy
Military Politics - Review of a Military active Duty Poll - courtesy MSNBC (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6284431/site/newsweek/)
A new poll shows that soldiers are more likely to vote for Bush. But their reservations about his Iraq strategy are helping fueling some shrill exchanges on the campaign trail
Even among military men, division - courtesy MSNBC (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6284220)
They are two men with a rich sense of duty to their country, with family members in uniform. And yet, like the candidates, and so many Americans, they remain deeply divided.

Interesting stuff, Andrew. I had a friend who was in the Navy in '92 and he said most everyone on his boat voted Perot because they thought him most likely to bring them back from the Persian Gulf--even though fighting had long since ended there.

and look what has happened. american troops have been stationed in the middle east continuously since iraq invaded kuwait in late '91. through terms of republicans, terms of dems, and back again we have stayed in the sandbox... continous employment for over 12 years and 3 wars, i dont see it changing no matter what happens nov 2nd. i am resigned to spending my entire career serving in the middle east, and i have 14 years left.

Agreed Booser,
Although the only middle eastern conflict a dem committed us to was Clinton in Somolia. He only took over what Bush left in the Middle east with regard to Saudi and Iraq.
Either way I think you're right. I have four years left before I can hang it up and I am pretty sure I will be spending at least one more year in the middle east.
Too many deployments.....not enough soldiers (we are still in Bosnia by the way...that was a Clinton commitment)
The draft is coming folks (It may take on a different look from drafts of the past) but it is coming.
Maybe not for the Air Force, but it's going to happen within the next 4-6 years.

And Germany since WWII. LIFE SUCKS!
There are plans already in motion to remove (return to US soil) thousands of active duty members from forward deployed areas around the world. Germany will probably see the most significant changes but it would be tactically ignorant NOT to deploy to the world's current "hot-spots".
