I'm fully aware that unless the Offense improves remarkably in the second half of the season this thread won't mean much in the weeks to come.
That said, the eternal optimist in me says that a playoff place is not totally beyond the Redskin - especially with the Giants & Cowboys defeats today.
With winnable games against the Packers, Lions and Bengals looming, a short 3 game winning streak would see the playoff picture change dramatically. Even a loss to Eagles after that would not necessarily kill-off our hopes, as they will, in all probability, sweep the Giants & Cowboys too...
As I said, there may well be a few too many if's, but's & maybe's in my reasoning - but, tell you what, I don't see the fat lady clearing her throat & shuffling her song-sheets just yet...

I was looking at the standings and our schedule and I think we could finish strong and sneak into the playoffs. Before the season started I would never have thought our defense would be good enough to do any real damage. It could happen!

Hey both the Giants and the Cowboys lost today, moving us up in the ranks. We need to win these next two game in order to make a serious move. We're still in it until it's mathmatically impossible.

:typeR2: :bounceit: I think about what Gibbs said before the Bears game said it all..."I told the players that we just gotta hang tough, the only way to turn things around is to keep working" I couldn't agree more...Greg williams has the "D" playing hard! they haven't been perfect, but they want to play and hit people in the mouth. And that attitude will pay off big in the long run. It is only a matter of time until the offense will be purring, because as humble as coach Gibbs is, I Know he is steaming about tht ineptness of the offense. We gotta capitalize on the opportunities ahead to gain some ground on the Eagles. So, to those attending the game next wk. vs Cheese breath and gang, do your part by being the 12th man out there!!! lets make FedEx rock!!! the Pack stomped all over Dallas so our D better come to play, and how about getting Gardner involved in the passing game!! G-bay is vulnerable back there in the secondary!!!
ps that is a sweet pic of L.A knocking out troy Boy up there!!! with the texas background

im with you all the way GD! i think the offense gained some confidence against the bears and i think this is the week we really get the passing game going. all the offense has to do is give our D some rest, and we will be in every game this season.

I was thinking the same thing today.
Let's concede that Philly wins the East, Minn wins the North, Atl wins the South and Stl/Sea for the West. That leaves 2 Wild card spots. It is IMPERATIVE that we win our games vs Detroit & GB to have the edge in any tie-breaker. In fact, I would argue that these 2 games are more important than our 2 vs Philly. NYG is not a 4-2 team--just a lucky streak, so I don't even picture them in the playoff picture in Dec. Dallas seems lost, the Saints are a coin-flip. So all that being said, we have a "realistic" chance of a wild card, but wins vs GB & Det are a must.

General Disorder, excellent summation of what its all about - the unexpected. Not many around the league penciled a lot of teams in the playoff picture, like the Giants or maybe even the Lions just yet, and certainly not necessarily the Skins. Dallas was a HUGE favorite and Carolina was a shoo in.
Niether bear it for now, but it doesn't look that much better down their road.
I think we bear the mark of more than a 50-50 chance now. It is apparent that a major element to win the big ones down the road, defense, is now a part of our team. We faced pumped up defenses, with teams needing to win desperately to have a pulse in their division, let alone finish strong - which to be honest most that beat us earlier, aren't very likely to finish strong, except Baltimore. Of those teams, only one will have a chance to be as strong as Baltimore, in their finish, the Giants. We face them at home and will determine at least how one game will go. I also see them facing an awesome up hill climb against their remaining schedule.
Optimistic is what we should be right now, as I believe the method and the legacy is beginning to soak into the minds of the players, starting with the release of Rasby and the return of key players, healings on the WR"s, and a change of pace at blocking for the passing game.
Now 10-6 doesn't seem so impossible and by grace, who knows it could very well be 11-5. Expectations aren't gone, reality's in and optimism is the motivator. Layoffs can hurt teams on a roll, where in our case, we needed the layoff for a roll. I pray it starts next week!

General Disorder has taken a very optimistic approach. My B&G colored glasses limit me to only the next game against the Packers.... It was great to watch the Packers take apart the cowpukes on Sunday, but it gives me great concern about our upcoming game. I'm all for being an optimist, but I must limit it to one game at a time. Our Beloved Team can beat the Packers if a lot of things go right! Let's hope Coach Gibbs and the staff are making them go right this week :)

Good outlook GD .......... I already said it once in another thread but will repeat it again ...... This week is a turning point week for our team! We showed some improvement in the Chicago game, now lets see what we did to adjust the passing game this week. A win over GB would be a major step forward.

Every team has moved the ball on Green Bay this year on the ground and in the air. Our Running game improved last time out, the adjustments made were perfect and it showed. That leaves the passing game to improve, I am optimistic it can and Green Bay is a good team to try and improve against.
I am always full of optimism.

The answer to our chances are the opposite answer to weather Brunell is playing or not.
Is Brunell playing? Yes. Then our chances are Null.
Is Brunell playing? No. Then we have a good chance.

I feel that we can win out, but I always feel that way. We are not out of the playoff picture be any means. Look at the Pats, they're not as good as the record would indicate. Its all coaching, and JG will have the team ready to play the rest of the season. Its good to be a SKINS fan.

While I said my peace on Optimism, I say this on realism. The Packers are going to play this game like there's no tommorow - IT's their break even the wins and losses game.
We can't jive around take plays off or get cocky just because of a lead or if we're only 3 behind.
What we need, I believe we have it and its simply up to how the players execute and think. Play with abandon and play it hard and strong for 60.

It's a littel dumb to say that, but it's true, It's both optimistic and realistic to envision a PO spot, until it actually does not happen.
I'm totally with you GD !
