When Gibbs was coaching last - the bye week wasnt invented yet. He was always known as an incredible half-time adjuster and game planner... so this week long half-time could be a great plus.

How do you think he is dealing with it?

Is it a much needed rest in a hectic first year?
Is it a great opportunity to continue working on an anemic offense?
Is it a needless distraction from the rhythm of the season?

Very carefully.....Now that Green Bay's coach is calling the plays, we have to be prepared for everything..He was seriously gunning for the girls last night.
Rest is always needed.
and Maybe Brunell can learn to throw the ball more....

I think at this point, he is retooloing his offense to a more modern approach, as far as utilizing more receivers, opening up the short passing game to get the box of 8 defense put back some. Once we can establish a legit short passing game, the shots downfield will open up. First things first, and I beleieve Gibbs is retooling toward that.

He probably got a bit of sleep, which I think he needed, judging by his appearance the last few weeks. I suppose he's also spent a lot of time re-tooling his passing game and trying to get it to work better. We won't know how successful he's been until Halloween, but I hope he's made decent progress because those Packers didn't look like pushovers yesterday.

I say one thing he'll be working on is the halfback pass. Dallass burnt us with it and GreenBay has used it for TDs the past two weeks.

I agree with PSF. Look for a more modern type of offense...

I don't know the specifics of what Coach Gibbs is working on, but I know, based on history, that he is spending a lot of time analyzing our Beloved Teams performance. This bye week gives him the luxury of not only looking at the opponent, but also more time looking at our Team. I expect there will be continued improvement in the running game and a strong push to initiate an improved passing game. Key players recovering from injury and returning on both Offense and Defense will be pushed to make immediate contributions.

just my 2 cents....

I know he worked on the passing game. I know he spent time over weekend with his family.

I think we'll see a difference in our passing attack. Whether it makes a difference is the question.

We've had the bye week since 1990. I remember in 1991, he told the team he'd give them a day off for each win they had to that point. They got the whole week off.

My hope is that he took the week to realize we cant play "not to loose". We have to play to win. With the way Green Bay puts up points, I hope he realizes we have to take more risks this week.

Smoot, Springs and the rest of our secondary will be tested on Sunday.

Oops - I stand corrected. Didnt know it was that early...

Either way - I think having an extra week to prepare for GB will definitely give us an advantage. Perhaps we can see another good performance like opening day.

I guarantee you the Packers' Defense will see some offensive formations from Gibbs that they havent' seen on film from him all season.

I'm really hoping for some Bunch 3WR sets. Anything to create mismatches in the passing game will help...

Im really hoping he is going to do this. Have Coles/Gardner/Thrash lined up in a 3 WR set. Would be hard to defend with those 3 running the routes!! Coles going long, Gardner middle and Thrash the short pass. You cant go wrong there!!

Coach Gibbs probably had a pretty sad day after hearing the horrible news that struck NASCAR people.

JTF -

I'm with you as usual, but rather than seeing brunell throw MORe, i'd rather see him throw with more velocity and accuracy. our playoff hopes are in a deep coma and on life support. we HAVE to beat the packers.

this bye week came at a great time. all the injured players can heal up and return healthy for the improving Packers team who've blown out the Cowboys and Lions in successive weeks.

he's taking the week to go over every play of the first 6 games and analyzing what worked and what didn't. then he's going over the adjustments he's going to implement on offense. then he's going to start game planning for the next 10 games.

i'm hoping to see Thrash and Jacobs utilized more. and more passes to Cooley and Sellers w/ both of them used in the FB position for Portis to follow. more cutback running from Portis and better play-action and rollouts by Brunell.

and i wanna see some trick plays! for 2 weeks in a row GB made TD's w/ the HB pass. and after watching Dallas do it to us it's time for some payback! we've also run 1 WR reverse all season.. i understand why he stopped since Coles was buried for a 16 yard loss against NY. but still... we need to implement more trickery and not look so predictable as we have in the first 6 games.
