I am surprised Leyland did not get the job. Wow. I hope this goes well this team should be ready to take the Braves down. Should have happened this year. Oh well been done that road before

Aren't we down that road every year? I too was a little surprised, but from his press conference he seems to be the right mix of fun and business. He was a hitting coach, and worked with Thome when he was in Cleveland... here's hoping we make it to the post season
P.S.- He's been a consitant head coach with the past 2 years i believe him winning around 90 games. (I would LOVE to see that happen)

I was excited when the Phil;s signed Bowa to coach but when we chose Bowa over Rolen, it all started to go south for me. I hope Manuel can turn it around. The health of the pitching staff is huge. Will Myers rebound, Can Wolf and padilla stay healthy. Who will replcae millwood in the rotation (Gavin?") and will the team resign Milton? I would love to see us go after Beltran, he would sure up a week CF and give us some much needed speed

For me as well. I think we had BETTER resign Milton, he did an awesome job for us (for the most part). I know Millwood is as good as gone, and if we do keep him, we are starting off on the wrong foot. Gavin Floyd would be perfect in my eyes. And you are correct in stating that we need a CF. It would be awesome if he could be our leadoff guy as well. (I don't think Rollins fits that role as best he could...)We have a great Pharm system, but the problem is that Ed Wade is too concerned with collecting antiques that he isn't concerned with bringing up the prospects that could succeed in this league. Instead he just trades them away.

redskins AND phillies??? so do you pull for the bulls and maple leafs? i've always wanted to meet someone whose favorite teams are my favorite in the four major sports... the problem with the phillies is they are "supposed" to beat the braves every year and never deliver. i would have gutted the team and built with younger players.

LoL~! smoake you are too funny. Actually Basketball is the one sport I just do not care for. I mean I know... well i can't exactly say enough... but i know a little, and i am ALL ABOUT the Flyers (they are my team!! I was at a game before I could even crawl). But 2 out of 4 ain't bad.... :D
As for the "problems" of the phillies, i honestly think alot of it has to do with Ed Wade. I'm really not a big fan, but the man's heart is in the right place... most of the time. We've got some great Vets on the team: Thome... uh... umm... (kidding), but the majority of the team already is YOUNG. We have potential... we just need to figure out how to turn that potential into progress and success.

I believe this team has a very good young core.
Wolf, myers, Floyd, Madsen are all young pitchers whom could be very good
Abreu, Burrell, Rollins, and Utley are all young on offense. Add in Lieby and Thome we have a very good group of players. We need a CF as Byrd has not played as well as I thought he would. Millwood will leave and that should free up around 10 million to spend hopefully to resign Milton and possibly help address the leadoff/ CF problem. Beltran leading off almost seems a waste (even though he could do it) his power would suit him better at 2 or third batting position
