CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Some say it's a recruiting thing, and others claim they have no idea. But as Virginia prepares for a visit from Maryland on Saturday, both sides agree that their rivalry has intensified exponentially of late.

Hrmm, its a toss up for me. I would love for UVA to beat UMD and Miami and have the Nov.27 game in Blacksburg be for all the marbles in the ACC. On the other hand it would give us some breathing room if UVA lost to UMD and beat Miami so that way we could lose a game and still have a chance at the ACC title.
I have a ton of friends who go to both schools, but on the other hand I love the Commonwealth where I have lived most of my life.
I wouldn't say it doesn't matter, but I won't be dissapointed either way, I have a little bit of love for both schools (not much though!)

UVA all the way...
They are the better team...and should win this one outright.

UVA controlled the tempo on offense early, and ran it down the Terpies' throats. The UVA defense also stepped it up, stoping a key 4th down early in the game. Both sides of the ball showed up last night.
Some important stats...
UMD managed only 7 first downs during the game, while UVA notched 26. UMD was 1 for 4 on 4th down conversions.
UMD ran for 1.9 ypc versus UVA running 4.8 ypc off 61 attempts
UMD controlled the ball for only 21 minutes, while UVA controlled it for over 38
Standout Players
Vernon Davis - UMD - 104 yards receiving off 4 catches
Alvin Pearman - UVA - 170 yards off 31 carries
Wali Lundy - UVA - 107 yards off 24 attempts and 2 TDs
Darryl Blackstock - UVA - Passed Lawrence Taylor for fifth in ACC history among linebackers with 22.

As the announcers said, Maryland is very young. The Fridge and Maryland fans will enjoy the next few years...

They still need a qb. Friedgen has never been this far into a season without having at least a few respectbale offensive performances. At this stage in the program, any year where the team doesnt make a bowl can only be called a disaster.

lets go terps....oh wait we already lost
there's no bad blood. maryland hasnt been good enough in the last 10 years to really have any strong rivalry. its gotten interesting lately with west virginia, but until the games with VA come close, i think WV is our more hated opponent. i'd like a rivalry with FSU though.
