That stupid councilwoman comes up with a plan to put the stadium next to rfk, and mlb says that we just wont get baseball if the stadium goes there. :banghead:

I'd prefer NOVA, but this better not get screwed up and they take it away from the area.

Its crap like this that makes me wonder why DC even won the bid in the first place. The majority of city residents didn't want it, while the DC City Council is heavily divided on it. All this red-tape crap is going on while not a single shovel has been dug into RFK to make the necessary changes it needs to accomodate baseball this Spring.

The Virginia bid included a fully financed stadium, which doesn't hit up the taxpayers. The DC bid, all along, couldn't fully finance a stadium, and now DC residents wonder why they should help finance one, when half of their hospitals are running at unexceptable levels or have closed entirely.

MLB finally awards baseball to the DC Metro Area, and the DC group can't even decide on a future stadium site? If this fails, they won't even think about bringing another team to DC.

But NOVA doesnt have a temporary stadium solution. Remember DC is playing hardball and said that they wont allow a nova franchise to use rfk temporarily untill a new stadium is built. And then there is the problem of having no metro service to a va. ballpark.

How can anyone be surprised that a council that will soon include Marion Barry could screw this up? I was shocked they were so close to getting it right in the first place.

It's not the entire council doing this. It's Linda Cropp, who went behind Tony Williams' back with this despite being very much on board with the original proposal.

I believe someone is afraid of not being re-elected.
