~~~~~crickets chirping~~~~~~Permit me to interrupt those crickets by raising my hands. I never drank and drove at 19. Or 18. Or 20. Or at any other time. Never once.
OK So I'm the only idiot, for which I'm very happy to hear...
I did it once and it scared the crap outta me, thankfully I had a friend follow me home and there was no incident.
Everyone I knew did it at least once...but I'm older then some of you, and the whole education part of not drinking and driving was just starting during my late teenage years.
Heck we didn't even wear seatbelts in those days!!!!!!!!!!!
heck, not even all people wear em today. it varies from driver to driver. one of my friends makes fun of me if i put it on, another makes you put it on.
i've never gotten drunk and then driving, or driven under the influence of anything. i've rode with people who were high though w/o problems as they slowed down, but its nothing im proud of or condone either.
NOW wait a minute I didn't say DRUNK...I've never driven drunk, just under the influence, which means that I had something to drink (wine coolers) then drove home at around 3 AM on the back roads of Germantown MD (back when there 'twerent nothing out there but cows) after that incident I was always the designated driver.
I have very little tolerance or sympathy for those who commit these acts of stupidity.
As an MP I have seen too many families destroyed, careers end and innocent people lost because someone was too big an idiot to call a cab or get a ride.
I know people make mistakes, but I have seen the brutal after effects of this mistake (that could have been avoided).
Hopefully people can make this mistake and get pulled over, but unfortunately a lot of people make this mistake and lose their life or kill someone else.
its been awhile since i posted that, but i dont believe it was a criticism that you were drunk. i think it was more of a mainstream thought, cause i dont know anybody right now that drinks w/o getting drunk. but whether your drunk or under the influence makes no difference, it shouldnt be done period.
Brings back a "funny " story...now anyways I had gone with a friend to a party drank myself stupid (didn't take long :D) and he wanted to leave as it was just getting warmed up. So I went home and decided to get my motorcycle out and ride back to the party. Luck would have it my battery was dead( for some reason I was without a car and it was getting cold out) so I got my drunk butt on the bike and kicked staretd it (ok so now you all know I am old) Got it running and warmed it up left out the clutch and got about 4 feet and fell off the bike. Now I was drinking but I knew I could ride a bike. So I got it up and started it again and almost dropped it a second time. So I got off the bike and noticed I had developed a flat front tire. I started pushing the bike up the alley to the garage next door ( about 1 am) got half way up the alley and justleft the darn thing sit along the alley and went to bed.
Guess someone was telling me to let it sit
I agree 100%, but when you're young and stupid you don't think of the ramifications, like I didn’t and like he didn’t.
I am actually very surprised that a lot of you can say that you don’t drink and drive. I’m happy to hear everyone of you has a designated driver and that none of you has ever had a few during or after the game and then driving home...or at any other time in your life. Makes me feel safer on the roads.
