North Carolina: Now, here's the perfect fit. Tar Heels head coach John Bunting had a nice upset win over Miami last Saturday; the school is selling pieces of the goalposts on its Web site. In three-and-a-half years in Chapel Hill, Bunting is 17-28, but just 9-23 since finishing 8-5 in his first season. He's on the hot seat. North Carolina has the financial resources to pay Spurrier and to make a commitment to winning (the UNC weight room is like Club Med). Heck, the school opened its checkbook for Mack Brown, and he almost got the Heels over the top in the mid-'90s, but they kept running into Florida State at the peak of Bobby Bowden's dynasty.

Back then, Bowden told me, "There are only a few schools that are capable of winning the national championship. North Carolina is one of them.'' The weather in Chapel Hill is good enough to run a passing game and attract players from Florida. And it's not exactly foreign territory for Spurrier; he won an ACC title at Duke. Best of all, by winning at North Carolina, Spurrier would get the same type of adulation he got for resurrecting Florida. It would all be new and special and how many coaches get to play the savior twice in their careers?

Sounds like a great fit to me.....:D

Good for him, I hope he does well ... just keep him away from my Skins.

I agree GolfFreak. No doubt about what he accomplished in college.

Honestly, I'm not too sure how I feel about him going to UNC, if thats what happens. I read when the UF job came open that one of the deciding factors for him pulling his name out of the hat was due to the fact that he didn't want to commit long term. I believe he said he'd be ready to retire for good 5-7 years down the road.

My #1 choice would be Urban Meyer. The Utah Utes head coach. In only his second year there he has them in the top 10. But I think he'll be the next UF coach....

I really don't follow college much, but my coworker went to BYU and ALWAYS complains about the Utes coach. LOL! He says the guy runs up the score even if the Utes are up 45-0 with 2 minutes to play.

I really want Spurrier to give it another go in the pros.

so do i......as coach of the cowboys

i dont think spurrier will ever have what it takes to succeed in the NFL, and i dont think any other team wants to take a risk on him.

UNC would be idealistic for spurrier, but i dont want him beating on my terps

Spurrier could be a very good fit at UNC. Can you imagine how sick the ACC would be though? No one would ever go undefeated and have a chance at an NC. A conference with FSU, Miami, a Spurrier coached UNC combined with strong programs at Maryland, UVA and Virginia Tech would be downright scary. Not to mention GT, NCSU, Wake Forest, and Clemson all are solid programs as well.

I remember saying that I thought that he would be your next coach prior to the season starting, good golf, nice coastline and the thrill of a big time conference.

yep, I remember you saying that....

I must admit...everytime I hear Spurrier turn down a job that the "people in the know" says he would accept, makes me wonder if there is something already completed....
