Backup QB for the Jags. There have been people calling for him to start for the past couple years down in Jacksonville, but he never quite made it in between Brunell and Leftwich. He's in his fourth season now and will be a free agent after this year, I believe. Might just be a sleeper candidate for our next starting quarterback if Ramsey really does get traded in the off season.
Anyways, he's 13/20 for 105 yards and a TD right now. Anyone who had Direct TV might wanna flip on over to the Jax/Detroit game to check him out for a few minutes.

I've heard he's one of the better backups in the league. But in reality, we don't need another QB. We can't cut Brunell and Pat is the future.

Oh yes we can dump Brunell, Synder has eaten big contracts before.
I like Hasselbeck, but his arm strength is an issue like Brunell.

He supposedly has a really good arm. Does that appear to be the case Joe?

Oh yeah. He flicked a pass over the middle at least 20-30 yards to Smith for the winning TD in overtime. Nice.

David Gerrard, the next Matt Hasselbeck or AJ Feeley? Hopefully Ramsey lights it up and some other team will have to find out.

we have to see what Ramsey can do before we know what we need next season. If we need a backup we should get a vet, if we need a starter I don't know about getting a back up to start for us. Sounds like a recipe for a typical Redskin's season, hope and hype.

Oh, I of all people ain't giving up on Ramsey. I'm just saying that if ya see Garrard on TV, it's worth taking a few minutes to watch him, because he could be high on our list if Ramsey doesn't pan out.

i love seeing this guy play - i played him 3 times in high school down in Durham - they were our high school rivals. he was a good athlete, but A BEAST of a high school QB - he ran about 6'0" and weighed around 230... and Southern Durham ran the option with him. he does have a very strong arm, but he didn't throw much.

No we cant dump brunell, not for another year. 8.6 million dollar bonus prorated over seven years, means we would have to eat 7.2 million against the cap if we cut if after the season. He gets cut after 2006.

That's a huge number. Ugh. I'd bet on him not only getting cut in 2006, but getting cut after June 1, so the dead money is spread over two years.

or maybe he'll retire... that changes cap ramifications, right?

Ramsey vote here and from here on out. Know his rep and know both times how he was treated, the reps in practice in both years and how we had these god awful expectations of him so quick. Truly the reactions of emotions. Brunell had his 10+ yr run and he wasn't out of football as long as Testaverde, so I don't even want to hear his excuse after friggin with the offense for 8 games.
As for this "other" guy, he'd be a good #2 right now. I feel some are quick to unload Ramsey, cause he aint no Roethlisberger or whatever, but mark this down. 2005.

Nien! It is no different against the cap whether he retires or is cut or traded. You eat the pro-rated bonus immediately against the cap.

If Ramsey (or whomever) is set as the starting QB, you make Brunell Head Clipboard holder for two years and then cut him.

either way brunell is getting that money, so what difference does it make which year we cut him? i'd rather give him the money now and get him off the roster. but do it after june 1st so he gets it over 2 years.

and if you cut him after 6/1, it's not over two years, its just delayed a year.
If you cut him now(or 6/1/2005) it's: 7.2 million against the cap
6/1/2006: 5.8 million against the cap
6/1/2006: 4.4 million against the cap.

That's what I was thinking, he'll be a June 1st cut.

If I were Mark Brunell, I would feel like a thief for keeping that signing bonus, after the way he has played.

That is not entirely true. There were several teams interested in Brunell...including Dallas and Tampa Bay. (among others)
