....but I told you so. Seems Spurrier is personally recruiting one of the top 2 QBs in North Carolina. Fat Phil from Tennessee has already recieved a commitment from either the #1 or #2 QB in NC. And it looks like Spurrier may sneak in and steal a almost certain UNC commitment at the last second. Here's a post from a UNC MB from a guy that is really close to Cameron Sextons family....
It looks like Spurrier may sneak in the back door and lure Sexton to Columbia. It is my understanding that Spurrier is personally handling Cameron's recruitment. He[Spurrier]has a in home scheduled for next week.
This has worried me for some time. I had talked with akh via PMs last week. Its going to very tough for UNC/NC State to keep North Carolina kids in state due to having Spurrier to the South....Fat Phil to the West....and Beamer/Groh to the North.
I'll admit it, I'm very worried about recruiting for football now a days...

Maybe UNC should have went after Spurrier?

Maybe UNC should have went after Spurrier?
Why? UNC's coach has done a hell of a job this year, beating Miami and making them Bowl Eligble where most people had them 2nd or 3rd to last in the ACC at the begining of the year. I'd say they are just fine with the guy they have now, but without Durant it will be hard for the next year.

UNC will continue to lose recruits to the bigger programs surrounding it, and it doesn't help that in-state talent already gets spread between State/Wake (and a trickle to Duke)... i will be suprised to see them do better than they have this year.

Thats not exactly correct Booser. We constantly out recruit both dook and Wake. And we get our fair share of top talent in the state of NC.
Now, the past couple of years state has killed us in recruiting. But guess what Amatos record is agains UNC? 2-2.....
It doesn't matter what the ranking a player has coming out of high school. Its how bad they want it and what kind of coach you have.
And the comment about Durant isn't exactly correct either. Baker, our back up QB this year, is very capable of running our offense. The weakness may be our OL next year. Or it could be a strength too. Depends on how they step up. Our defense was full of sophs/fresh this past year. So our defense should be better. Our WR corp will be back....everyone that is. And we'll have McGill back at TB. Also remember this name.....COOTER ARNOLD. Rated in the top 5 in the state. He's a great athlete who plays RB, QB, DB, PR, and KR for his undefeated high school team.
We're not in bad as shape as some may think. Too bad we didn't have MD on our schedule this year.....;)

see why.

Also, two great WR prospects who had verbally committed to Oklahoma and Miami(both from South Carolina) have backed out and publically have said they want to be Cocks.

of course you out recruit duke and wake, i just mentioned that the talent in the state gets spread out. at the same time, every year some good talent goes to them (wake in particular) - but you are right, you get your fair share of talent from the state. problem is, schools in other states don't have to fight the same battles as UNC. So you get a recruit to stay in state - that's part of the battle, but then he could pick any one of the schools. most other states don't have to spread the talent so thin... and if they do, it might be a talent rich state like FL, TX, or CA. NC is not on the same level, size wise or talent wise. i played high school football in NC, and i remember how everyone seems to like a different squad. don't forget ECU and App St either... they leach some second tier talent from the bigger schools that could have been used too. no NC teams are so chock full of blue chips that they dont need that talent.
yes, UNC does a nice job with the hand they're dealt and with the talent they have... but in my opinion they are one of the losers in the ACC expansion (in football) for the near future. the talent level in the conference just went way up. of course, you can count on being better than Duke!

I wonder if the college d-coordinators will copy to an extent the nfl defenses when playing spurrier.........but perhaps it doesn't matter what the defense does without the personnel.

the good teams will try to, but colleges dont have the talent(except for the super programs) to cover the wideouts one on one and blitz and be successful. Spurrier will do well against the lesser schools and pick off a couple great schools in his first couple years.

Carolina has a small foothold in Hampton Roads. This is the new hotbed of college and professional athletes.[Vick,Iverson,Curry,Burress,Alonzo,Joe Smith,...,not to mention a lot of the stars at Va./Va.Tech]
If they could steal a couple of players from here,it could do wonders for their program.
