Gregg Doyel from CBS Sportsline thinks so...
Don't look now, but Dookies could take a fall
Mike Krzyzewski didn't turn down the Los Angeles Lakers for this, but here it is -- Duke's dynasty is in trouble.
After an immortal 19-year run of 10 Final Fours and three national championships, Duke is teetering on the edge of mortality.
The Blue Devils will be fine this season -- not overpowering, not national championship material, but fine.
Duke will win 20-plus games and enter the 2005 NCAA Tournament with a chance to linger. Duke has little depth, but Shelden Williams, J.J. Redick, Daniel Ewing and Shavlik Randolph provide plenty of front-line talent.
It helps that Duke's 2004-05 non-conference schedule is weaker than it has been in years. Other than Michigan State in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge (at Duke) and Oklahoma in New York, the Blue Devils should breeze through their non-conference schedule -- and not because Duke is that good. The schedule is that bad.

They will be weak this year. After they lost Deng and Shawn Livingston to the NBA, they only have 8 scholarship players.
BUT, they have already secured the #1 class for next year. So, while they may not have the type of season that they are used too, look for them to back next year. Unless they lose 1 or 2 players that go straight to the NBA from high school.
I've never understood why high schoolers fall for the Ks sales pitch anyways. dook always has a good team, but how often do they send players who are ready for the NBA? With the amount of McDonalds AA players they recruit, you would think more would make better pros than they have turned out.....

That #1 class could dwindle if McRoberts goes to the NBA and paulus plays football somewhere else(I think mcRoberts WILL end up at duke but Paulus will NOT).
Unfortunately duke will be fine. As much as I hate them and K he always has his teams near the top(except when that damn back pain flares up :lol1: ) and they'll be fine BUT the Heels will be the top dogs on a more consistent basis. I hope the ACC enjoyed the last few years b/c those days are over and it's back to the good old days.

i dont want dook to be #1 every year, but i certainly dont want them to fall. i like the ACC being one of(if not #1) the strongest conferences in basketball. i mean, who woulda thought maryland would win the ACC tourny last year? they struggled enough during the year just to make it into march madness. with the powerhouses of wake, unc, duke, gt, and maryland, i dont think fans want that to change, unless your adding florida state into the mix.

Your right, RedskinRyan, I never expected the Terps to win the ACC Tourney. Especially in Carolina! They were the youngest team in the League last year and they should only get better...I noticed Mercer threw some matchup zone at them and that's what they struggled w/against Syracuse last year. They should be ready for it this year with Mike Davis and Gilchrist able to knock down trifectas...Gist, from Good Counsel High, is gonna sneak up on a lot of people this year...

What does it matter where the game is played? It's not like it was played on a NC team's campus.
