hello, I'm a new fan too. My name is Mike Perdue.....and I'm a Nationals fan!

In all seriousness....this will take a while for me to get used too. I've been a Amercian League fan for my whole life. So I'll have to start to pull for the NL in the all-star games. Plus not having a DH....

Oh well.....I can't wait for baseball season now....

I ahve been an Orioles fan since I was a small kid, probably for a good 28 years. I have loved the O's, love the tradition and rich history. I used to go to 7 to 8 games a year when OPCY opened, but my enthusiasm has completely died with Peter Angelos. he has destroyed the franchise. I can honestly say though, If Washington had had a team all these years, I woudl have been a Washington fan. Since DC has gotten it's long awaited franchise, count me in, a new Washington Nationals fan, enthusistically supporting the NATIONALS!

Angelos has killed the O's....

Why am i a Nationals fan? Because the idea of being able to get off work, get on the Metro, fish out a $20 bill and get to RFK in the time it would take for me to walk home sounds heavenly...

I'm a Nationals fan for the same reason I'm a Redskins and Bullets fan. I was born in Washington, D.C. and live in the Maryland suburbs of the city. I'm loyal to the city. I am not an Orioles fan and made a point of never rooting for the Orioles because I wanted a team in Washington. No matter what that creep Peter Angelos says, Washington is NOT Baltimore. I always admired the way Baltimore refused to adopt the Redskins, knowing that to do so would only ensure they wouldn't get their own team for a long time. I decided to emulate them because it was one of the few clever things I've ever known a Baltimoron to do.

Hi, I'm Nicholas Thompson, and as of today I'm a fan. I haven't lived out by DC in 10 years, and have never really cared for baseball (partly because I never really felt I had a team to call my own). Yet, I think it's time I changed my tune. Washington sports have been in my family for 3 generations, even though I've spent the majority of my life between NYC and Colorado. Oh sure, growing up in NY as a kid I took the Yankees as my team, but that was really just because everyone around me did and everyone hated the Red Sox. They never really felt like my team (hell NY isn't even my birthright, born in Gibraltar, UK), but the Redskins have always been my team. Add that my initials are NAT, and I think I'm a fan.

They will have to settle for being my National League team. I'm Yankees through and through but I gotta cheer for the home town team. I can't wait to get off work, take the Metro 2 stops and see a real live baseball game. I also can't wait to tailgate at RFK again!!!

I never rooted for the Bullets because I never rooted for NBA baskteball. Same with the Capitals. I've always had a slight interest in baseball and tried latching onto the Braves when I was little but it didn't feel right. I've never really wanted to cheer for a city that wasn't home. Now I have that in baseball, and I'm thrilled. I look forward to some baseball for the first time in my life.

I'm not a huge baseball fan...but I'll get into it now that DC has a team. I grew up going to Phillies games, but haven't seen a MLB non-playoff game on TV in years....

Since moving to VA in '98, I always made a point to visit Camden Yards 2-3 times a year with friends. Ever since Angelos became a thorn in the side of the financial groups trying to bring a team to DC, I personally boycotted the O's.

Now I'm a Nats fan through and through.

We should plan some hailRedskin.com events at RFK this year....

I've lived in Northern Va. since 82' so D.C. teams are all I know and love. The O's were the only team I rooted for outside of D.C. for the obvious reasons of not having a team here. I'm a homer through and through and love the Skins', WizLets, Capitals, United and now the Nationals. Angelos have ruined my love for the O's for the last 6-7 years so it's perfect timing for the Nationals to come home.

Nationals Fan cause I want to be! I had last checked out a game at RFK as a Senator's fan the year they packed up and I choked up. Darn shame, but its business I guess. I saw the role call that year, Howard, Bosman, Harrah, Epstien, Casanova, and ole' Ted Williams as the manager. I still savor a good dog, beer and a free miniature Louiville sluger by my side. Ok, so those are the memories and I won't lay it on thick.

I will say I am glad to be a fan and look forward to seeing how it all turns out, seeing the Nationals compete.

I can't wait to wear that cap with pride that starts a New chapter in baseball history. I know teams may feel we'd be a welcome matt, but baseball's more unpredictable with new franchises, so I love the mystique and challenge of it all!

I'm a Nationals fan because they are in Washington, D.C. and its great for us to finally have a baseball team. I will admit, when Cal Ripken and all the other Orioles were there in the mid 90s, I rooted for them and went to games. When he left, my interest kind of faded because a bunch of new guys came in and I just didn't really want to get to know anybody. Now that Washington has its team, I'm all ready to go out and buy a hat and start supporting. Go Nationals :)

for the record, though. I will say that Cal Ripken is my favorite player, always has been, always will be. Great baseball player, and his record will never be matched, and he was a good guy.

I grew up in DC proper, Northwest by Walter Reed so I am a legitimate homer. Right now I am a homer in misery except for the wizards who seem to be reversing their curse. I love the Caps, but they are on VACATION. My Skins seem to want to take their vacations starting in September but I am still with them.

Besides the fact as a native Washingtonian.....I hate Baltimore. I like the Orioles, but hate how Angelos destroyed that team.

BTW Tom, does this mean now that the Reds can get bent?I'll still root for the Reds, but not when they play the Nats. The Nats are my number one team now. I don't see how anyone can object to the Reds, though. They're harmless. Unfortunately. But at least I can say I stuck with them until we got a team in D.C., which is what I always promised myself I would do.

I never experienced a Baseball team until now. I quietly adopted the Red Sox simply because they were always underdogs.

I am happy that my last season of rooting for the Red Sox ended with them showing the Yankees who was daddy!

I am all about the Nats now!

I'm happy about having a team back in Washington. I was a big fan of the Senators - Loved going to the games. Will now have a national league and american league team to root for - Yes, I switched over to Baltimore once we had no team in DC simply because I like baseball and enjoy attending the games.

I'm just glad to see baseball back in DC. Although I live in Georgia now I'm still a fan of DC area sports teams, I grew up in NE. I missed the Senators when they move to Texas; I was a vendor at RFK when I was in HS for the Senators Home games. With the O's being in the AL I think it's the best situation. Well Jimreaper007, you are in the uptown area I suppose, at WR, and old Griffith Stadium (Old ball games both for baseball and football). was at the eastern end of the westside, by what is now Washington Hospital Ct.

Simply put...the Nationals are from Washington DC...my "Hometown" of sorts...(Mt. Vernon/Alexandria)

I've been looking for a reason to drop the O's for a long time...what better reason than this? GO NATS!

And oh yeah, I actually attended a O's/Sox preseason game at RFK about.....jeez.....15-16 years ago when they were making an initial push for a team in the District...actually was quite watchable in RFK...

Got my National's Cap!!!, Now I will get a roadie cap too, and still waiting to see the final roster before opening day so I can select a Jersey.

Only rooted for one team, Senators and did like a selection of players in the league, some teams I followed, but not the same feeling, so fanmanship died.
It has been restored with a second chance to again root for a team from D. C.!

I will support our Nats in the National League but I have to say I will continue to be a die hard O's fan til I die. I dislike much about Baltimore and many of the Baltimorons I have met in my life, but I grew up on the O's and Cal, and the O's playoff runs in the mid-90's are still the most important sports moments in my life that I can remember (unfortunately I was too young to understand the magnitude of the Skins 91 Super Bowl win).

So I am happy that Washington will have the team it deserves and in the NL I wish it the best, but my heart still lies with the O's. Oh yeah, and Yankees suck!!!!

Ernie, don't know how old you are, but all those names brought back some very distant childhood memories. My first baseball game was a Senators game. I was a kid of 7 or 8. Frank Howard hit two out that day and I was hooked. Since I was new to the game I learned the positions on the field and what part they played in the game from the Senators. And then, about a year or two later, they were gone. I became an Orioles fan because, well, my dad was a huge O's fan...but I have always had a place in my heart for baseball in Washington. And now its back. I will definitely be a Nats fan and am hoping to get to a game or two this year.

Man I look forward to seeing you all there. Ah yes, I remember

Valentine's speed

Eddie Brinkman's glove and choke up on the bat to slap a single in the hole between 3B and SS or SS and 2B.

Howard's towering homers - anyone remember how they painted the seats!!!!
Howard was also a very good orator! - the long John Wayne looking stretch at first base.

Epsteins variety of play and sportsmanship

Casanova's firing to second, got em'! He barely stood up from his catcher's position!

Rodriquez, like Hinton, Valentine, Epstien, Casanova, kept the attempted steals count high.

Bosman - All Star effort at the mound -

Hinton was steady at home and many locals adored him (he was seen in a lot of D. C. Recreation events, when I was coming up there, and for some reason, I kept running into him). Change that- all were adored by the local fans.
Hey who was Duke Snyder?

The tear jerking was STILL going with me, when I TOLD the Extremeskins.com posters, baseball would be back sooner than later. I have no idea why I said that, but it feels good :)
