Giants at Redskins: I don't like anybody on the Redskins at all. RB Clinton Portis is supposedly not going to start -- Ladell Betts will. Be sure ot check that for yourself ...

How can he get away with writing this crap. Portis is supposedly not going to start and Betts will? I'd love to hear his source on this....

Brandt is not an idiot. He might be incorrect here, but he doesn't just make stuff up. Brandt is one of the greatest talent evaluators in NFL history. He probably deserves as much credit as Tex Schramm for building those great Cowboys teams of the 1970s.

I expect Portis to start, but if he doesn't--or if he starts the game, but finishes it on the bench--even Gibbs won't be able to spin away his displeasure with Portis. It is hard to believe the Skins would really give up on Portis, though. They just gave him $50.5 million.

Lets wait until we hear who the starter is before we start blasting the guy as an idiot.

i believe clinton and ladell each had 6 carries last week, so its not like betts got the majority there. i dont see portis getting benched in favor of ladell because gibbs prolly felt that they had a better shot with betts because portis' style couldnt happen vs the steelers.

I thought Betts had more carries than Portis last week. Eight carries to six carries, I think. Not a big margin, but still surprising.

Bugel already said they're going to "run Portis until his tongue hangs out," so I'd expect him to get the start.

What concerns me more is the comment "I don't like anyone on the Redskins." As Spence said, this guy is a pretty good evaluator of talent, and that doesn't bode well.

Fair enough...but you can't simply declare Betts as the starting RB for the Skins in the middle of an article and not back it up or mention it any further.

If, indeed Gibbs decided to bench Portis this week, it would be league-wide news. Feature articles would be written on it around the country. It wouldn't have been mentioned in passing at the tail end of a fantasy football article.

It seems to be more "opinion" than "fact" on Gils' part. He shouldn't have said it in such a "rightfully so" way.

In the context of a fantasy football article, he is right. What skill-position player on our offense do you like, especially if you believe Portis won't start? It would take a statistically aberrant offensive explosion to make any of these guys impact players on a fantasy team.

Ramsey: better than Brunell but then, so am I
Gardner: 50/50
LC: walking wounded
cooley: one or two touches per game
Portis: might not start
Betts: no history of production
Taylor/DMC/Thrash: two are good special teamers...

Not exactly Manning/Tomlinson/TO. Heck, they're not even Hasselbeck/Barber/McGahee.

He must have gotten a tip from his fantasy friend last night, that's why he won't reveal the source...Your (more BS) assessment is right on DJ.

The problem is...a lot of NFL sites and fantasy football sites are taking Gil's opinion as gold and are running stories on it. Be prepared for a tidalwave of stories on this in the next few days...

my feeling is that gibbs went with betts in the steeler game because he wanted some semblence of a run game and figured that betts would get no respect from the steelers which meant that there was not going to be 8 men in the box like there is everytime that portis even looks at the ball

This can't be true. If it is, then the Redskins are officially the most screwed up team/franchise in the history of athletics.

This year, and in recent years, a lot of things have gone down with our team that I have raised an eyebrow at but ultimately defended. I don't know if I could take Portis being benched with or without explaination. That is where I draw the line.

Thanks YoungSkin, Brandt is just jealous of Gibbs. Brandt will always be a Cowboy at heart and his opinion holds no merit in my book...Get a life Gil!

I can't see any possible reason why Portis should be riding the bench. Of course, I didn't see any reason why we had to run him for less than 20 combined carries in the past two weeks, either....

That reminds me of that line from "The Last Crusade".

"Care to wet your whistle?"

"I'd rather spit in your face, but then I haven't got any spit........"

Was that Sean Connery or the other old guy?A classic line from Denholm Elliot as he was riding in a jeep with the Nazis towards the Cup of Christ.

Jesus christ. Portis is our best player on offense and you mean to tell me people are freaking out because his speedy ways didn't work against TWO defenses!?! give me a break. Gibbs loves Portis. He will go over 100 yards this weekend, hopefully leading us to a victory, and break the 1,000 yard rushing mark.

I have a team thats 9-3 and I have started Coles Every week except the bye week.

I agree it's BS, and idiotic to speculate without citing a source for the info.
