i started reading the article thinking it would be surprisingly positive. he makes some good points, but his total mockery of joe gibbs and company pisses me off. joe gibbs was winning superbowls when this guy was.... well, i was going to say something obscene about something young teenage boys do in thier closets, but thought better of it.
anyway, this guy is now #1 on my list of turncoat sportscasters who i would like to see sean taylor knock the crap out of.

This article is just Kornheiser's attempt to be funny. It's not a serious attack on anyone. Besides, his point about somebody still having to catch the ball is pretty legitimate. When was the last time you saw us put up the ball to an open receiver that you didn't tense-up waiting for the drop?

I feel its ok to disagree with a man like gibbs and think he might not be making the best decisions, but i think its very disrespectful to mock him. if his intent is harmless and he was just trying to be funny, ok, but i didnt take it that way.
PS - and i'm someone that knows about saying stupid things you dont really mean. :-)

The truth hurts, doesn't it?
Gibbs has a unit ranked last in the NFL in points scored per game. He made a huge mistake signing Brunell. He overpaid for Portis. He overpaid for Barrow. He can't manage the clock. He can't master play review. His team is undisciplined. His team is not adjusting at halftime.
Who cares what Gibbs did before? What matters is what he is doing NOW. This is not the Joe Gibbs Memorial Stadium Tour and Cavalcade of Stars. This is the 2004 NFL regular season. And the 2004 Gibbs is failing.
Miserably.

Sorry - I guess that sounds kind of harsh. I just hate it when we act like a bunch of blind fanboys...be it reaction to Tony or Pastabelly or someone else. A lot of times these guys are way off the mark, but the reactions here seem overly sensitive, too.
Or maybe I am completely frustrated over what has got to be the worst 'Skins seasons I can ever remember...

i think the reason why all of us are somewhat optimistic is because we arent getting smashed and we arent as bad of a team as our record. who do u thik would win, us now or us last year? im thankful that it is the o that is our prob because defensive problems are killers

this article isn't bad. tony had an assignment to write an article about the skins and this "joke" was probably his only option other than really attacking gibbs.
it shocks me how the press tip toes around gibbs and is too scared to ask him the tough questions. we have had this thread a million times so i am not trying to repeat but c'mon gibbs has done a piss poor job this year. he has even failed at fundamentals that he can control like play calling. i think and hope he will turn it all around and i am willing to give him that chance. but he deservers an onslaught of criticism and the press sure doesn't give it to him openly. heck, it isn't always a bad thing to have people force you to face your mistakes. anyways it doesn't matter that gibbs won superbowls in the past it matters what he does now. just like it doesn't matter that brunell was a great qb in the past cause he stinks now.

I'll tell you this much. I've been reading Tony Kornheiser's columns in the Post for nearly 15 years now, and i look forward to his articles about our home teams here in DC. I've always found him to be intuitive and biting at times, but is good at getting across what people are thinking but not necessarily saying. He wants the Redskins to do well, and he loves Coach Gibbs, and Coach Gibbs really likes Kornheiser. To be honest, i would hate it if Kornheiser ever changed his writing style. His articles about Les Boulez, the "Coking Dog" Caps, and the Redskins "Bandwagon" are always my favorites. As far as him not staying on topic-that is his column's trademark, he always goes off on rants about different things-i think he's great-not saying you have to agree-but i do. BTW, Kornheiser and Wilbon aren't the only great sports columnists at the Post. My personal favorite is Tom Boswell. Go check out some of his past columns on the Post website.

Lighten up People. Kornheiser has been writing like this for his whole career. The mock seriousness is part of his style. This is sports and Joe Gibbs is not the pope (although I would like to see a Kornheiser column on the Vatican's handling of the child sex abuse scandal.).

Okay, I need something explained to me....
How in the heck is this article the least bit offensive?
Come on now, I'm just as diehard a fan as anyone on this board, but if anything Tony wrote really made you angry, you gotta start taking things bit less seriously. The Redskins are bad. If you can't admit that with a 3-8 record staring you in the face, I guess nothing I say will be very convincing. But it's plain to see that the team isn't very good and the offense just can't score points. A few jokes about that facts shouldn't be reason for Kornheiser to be tarred and feathered.

Oh please......Gibbs came back to a loosing team with a looser attitude and now only 11 games later you are calling him a failure. It is the players we have the looser attitude, players who don't care as long as thier getting thier paycheck. To call Gibbs return a failer at this point is hypocracy.

Exactly. Don't expect articles from the WASHINGTON POST to praise the terrible play of the WASHINGTON Redskins. The sad thing is, I'm so used to articles like this from Boswell, Wilbon and Kornheiser, that it doesn't bother me the least bit.

why cant a local sportswriter bash on the skins offense...you guys get pissed like its not true...yea he puts a funny spin on a lot of his articles and some things are too far...but im not pissed after that article...im pissed at how terrible the offense is
I say you've reached the end of the line offensively when a lummox like Fox announcer Bill Maas persistently (and in a persnickety way) criticizes the Washington offense by pointing out how many passes were dropped, how many opportunities were missed and how futile the Redskins were, and have been all season. What does this guy know? He was a lineman. He spent his whole career on his back like a turtle.

The truth is healthy and Gibbs has failed miserably so far and that is just the truth. I am a fan of gibbs too, but I try to be realistic. As many have pointed out he can't even get the offense to meet the basic football fundamentals. And as a coach he can't meet basic fundamentals such as clock management and decent playcalling. If our defense wasn't amazing our team would w/o question be the laughing stock of the nfl. Like I said though, I can give him time, and I truly believe he will turn it around I would never take away his past success, but so far in the 2004 nfl season he has been a failure and that is that.

Are you serious? Please point out one thing in the article that isn't right on the money... I've been a Skins fan since birth and I actually laughed out loud a couple times while reading it. the truth hurts. Korny makes some great points, especially the Ramsey vs Manning comparison.
The Ramsey/Manning comparison is the only poor point he makes. It's ludicrous to compare the two in the way he did. He knows that too but it makes for good reading.
Let's see:
Ramsey: 2nd yr starting, 1st time in this system; playing with an offense that is the worst in the league; no running support; no receiving support; no O-line support; conservative playcalling; he has only played the top 2 teams in the league
Manning: 7th yr starting, most of these in current system; playing with the best offense in the league, with Edgerrin James having one of his best seasons; 3 of the top WRs in the league; no conservative playcalling because he is one of the best QBs to have ever played
Put 90% of the starting QBs in the league in Ramsey's position the last two weeks, and the results would have been the same.
Any kind of comparison at this point is totally bogus. And though the point he made obviously is relevant to some, anyone who has followed football over the years should snicker at just the thought of a comparison.

Thank you for putting the truth as straightforward as possible. Right now Joe Gibbs to me is like Michael Jackson. Back in the 80's he was the man and could do no wrong. When Joe Gibbs was winning superbowls Tony Kornheiser was still a columnist for the Washington Post. Tony Kornheiser was writing articles about the Redskins when you were a kid. (Well I was even younger than you, but I did take the time to go and read the WP archives)
You might not remember it but Tony Kornheiser came up with the Bandwagon and I guarantee you that he genuinely wants the Skins to succeed. This article just tells it lilke it is with a comical twist, just like every Kornheiser article.
He may stretch a little, but I do find his articles funny, and hey sometimes the truth hurts.
Some people on here need to stop being so offended by any negative articles on the Redskins, the world doesn't hate us, we have just sucked for the last 13 years, and until that changes the articles will keep coming.
