When the return of Joe Gibbs was announced, nobody was as happy as me, however I did have a more modest set of expectaitons for the season than most at this forum (I think I predicted 8-8). I was/am a serious Spurrier basher, and thought that with no other changes than at coach, we'd be a much better team.
Now it is very possible we might have and even worse record than we did under Spurrier, and probalby no better.
Who'd a thunk it? With our superb (better than last year) defense, and a weaker schedule (our division really sucks), how can it be that record-wise, Gibbs is doing worse than Spurrier?

They say that you're only as good as your record...I do see much improvement with this team.. I think discipline will also need to be more instilled. He will never let up on that. He'll find the true Skins..and roll with them. I would rather have a better D than offense anyway...but not like this. I mean one that can at least score 24-31points.....
Remember when you gain 30 pounds in 7 years it'll take that much time to drop the weight.

The Redskins have faced a pretty weak schedule, too. The performance this year has been very disappointing.

Here's a big one.....
Who would have thunk Joe Gibbs would come back and have one of the worst offenses in the league while Marty is running up scores in San Diego...
Imagine that...

Marty was shafted by Snyder. I said it then and I'll say it now even with Gibbs here now. Many folks (myself included) were doubtful when Marty was hired, but at the end of his year, he had the team making big progress with quarterbacks maybe even worse than we have now.

Who'd of thunk that we haven't scored more than 20 points in a game yet. Who'd of thunk that Portis only had 3 100+ yard games. Who'd of thunk that Gibbs' hand picking of Brunell would be a disaster ... I could keep going if you want.

Because we haven't scored more than 18 points yet this season?

I'm still hoping to go 8-8.
But I have to say as a Redskin Fan I am once again miserable at our record.
As a Joe Gibb fan however, I will wait until next season to pass judgement.
Maybe our starters will be healthy, maybe our QB will be poised and maybe we'll stop making costly penalties.

Who would have thunk Champ Bailey would be made to look as if he had orthopedic shoes on while attempting to cover Jerry Porter.

I'm reserving judgement for the time being as well. One year is not enough.
I am interested, however, in folks opinion of what Gibb's role is in this disasterous season. What do folks think he is doing wrong, what is he to "blame" for? Like I said before, I think Spurrier was horrible, but our defense is even better than last year, our schedule weaker than last year, and in my opinion our personel better. The biggest change has been the coaching staff. So to what degree is Gibbs to blame?
Personally, I think his time away from the game hurt him big time, no matter how smart he is. Two, three years is tough enough, but in ten years you have virtually a complete turnover of the league players, and probably two or three "revolutions" of offensive and defensive schemes. That, and his insistence on bringing in and starting Brunell, I think have caused this season to go the way it has. I did not expect miracles, but I would have bet my life we'd do better than last year.

Winners win....
Joe Gibbs will study the entire league this off season and alter his system or develop a new one that utilizes the strengths of the personnel he has. Combined with Synder's uncanny ability to get players...Gibbs will win.
Granted it will take more time than most thought...but winners win.

I think he had 15 tackles the week b4.

Yes the team was struggling big time early on w/ coach Schottenhiemer Although as you said "at the end of his year, he had the team making big progress". Well, it's not the end of the year yet. We've still got 5 weeks of football remaining and I think EVERYONE is going to take notice of our vastly improved offense in these remaining games. Mark my words our offense meets Gibbs weekly goal of scoring 3 TDs in EVERY ONE of the remaining games!

But they were 5-5 after ten games. They lost five in a row, then won five in a row and went 500 from then on. They turned it around before the end of the year. I relly do not think this team is going 5-0 to finish, although it would be nice.

Put money on it, I say we get 20 on san fran
only td and a FG or 2 against everyone else but we will win 4 out of 5

Are they paying him to tackle or take passes back the other way? Tackling for a CB is nice, but he is supposed to totally shut down one side of the field.
