Is their any word on whether his contract negotiations are going anywhere, or have they stalled.
I view Smoot as a must resign but if the deal isn't done yet then what is thr problem, is Smoot waiting on other teams to make offers.
Is Smoot a RFA {in which case we would get a 2nd rd pick if anyone signed him} or is he simply a URFA and he can walk if he wants.
or couldn't we do what the Jets did with Coles and put a high enough offer on him to force a team to give up a 1st rd pick.

The deal, if it is struck, will probably come together around the Christmas/New Year holidays. The Skins will want to keep him off the market, but it'll cost them a premium to do so, since it would prevent Smoot from testing his worth on the semi-open market.

Yes. I believe it will be a Jansen type, no hype leading up to it, just BOOM, here it is.

And I think that is better. The more hype, the more I think he will want.

I think Smoot is a UFA. I hope he resigns too, he seems like he wants to be a Skin.

Same as Arrington last season, although Arrington wasn't scheduled to be a FA this season, just had a huge cap number.

I hope you guys are right about Smoot signing, because if he skips town...that truly screws the defense.
I will start the Rolle countdown unless there is a free agent out there worth going after. The only guys that come to mind is Buchanon (raiders) and the really good corner in Tennessee. but he is getting up there in years.

If we don't resign Smoot that means we have to get Rolle which wastes our first round pick, that would be devestating.

I'm not worried, the Skins will not let a true Redskin leave.

Gibbs isn't gonna let Smoot walk. He and GW love his heart and intensity he brings to the game. Plus Smoot has said how much he wants to remain a 'Skin more than once. He'll get signed before the offseason. I'm more worried about Pierce leaving because I'm not sure if we can afford him.
