The University of Florida has offered its coaching job to Urban Meyer and expects him to accept it today, according to reports on Florida newspaper Web sites.
Meyer, who has coached Utah to a 12-0 season and a BCS bowl bid, could make his decision today, according to the Gainesville Sun.
"It could be any minute," UF president Dr. Bernie Machen told The Palm Beach Post. "I'm waiting for an e-mail."
If this is true, I'm surprised he didn't take the ND job over the UF job. Seeing as to how that was one of the schools that would allow him to leave freely.

He is now officially the Florida Gators coach here is the link from ESPN Meyer accepts Florida Job (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=1937879)
I'm kinda surprised that he didn't go to ND especially after hearing how much he wanted to be there. But if you look at it from a football prospective its much better for him to be at Florida. He already has an excellent QB with Chris Leak and there is great recruiting in Florida for him to go after. The ability to turn this team into a National Championship team is much better then his chance at turning ND into a National Championship team.

Good point Shaggy.
In the end I suppose Spence was right. Even though I thought he was off of his rocker in the beginning. :D
Good call Tom.

not to mention the load of talent at UF. zook was a great recruiter and they have very young team. Larry Fedora, the offensive coordinator at Florida was a coach of mine at the Academy. last year the team traveled with 40 freshmen... whoever was taking over at Florida was stepping into a good situation. Meyer will enjoy himself.

I'm personally ecstatic that Notre Dame looks like complete idiots now that their Golden Boy left them out in the cold.

Yup, that's a punch in the face to the ND Administration. Wonder how the Alumni feel now...or better yet, wonder how the AD feels since he buckled in to Alumni pressure.

From what I've been hearing these last few days, the AD at ND is nothing more then a mouthpiece for the Alumni and the board. He seemingly has no say over anything.

They really shot themselves in the foot up there. I feel for the kids that Willingham brought in too.
If I'm an AD and I let the Alumni dictate what Coach I hire/fire, then I have a hard time cashing my paycheck! I'm curious to see who takes that job next...
Maybe they need a spineless coach up there.

Thanks, Mike. I AM off my rocker, but even nutballs get a few of 'em right. I always thought Meyer would be nuts to take that Notre Dame job if he could get an offer like the one he got from Florida. I don't think Notre Dame fired Ty Willingham because he is black, I think they fired him to get their golden boy, Urban Meyer. True justice that their golden boy doesn't want to coach the golden domers. Meyer absolutely made the correct decision. Ron Zook did a pretty good job recruiting and the team returns 16 of its 22 starters from this season. Meyer will win immediately in Florida, while winning at all--ever--in Notre Dame is a much dicier prospect.
Florida got the coach it deserves. Meyer got the job he deserves. Notre Dame got the rejection it deserves. Justice all around.

I'm not so sure that UF deserves a coach like Meyer either. The way they fired their coach during the season. Zook did something that Spurrier was NEVER able to do. Beat F$U in Tallahassee. Whats his reward? To be fired 4 or 5 weeks earlier.
Meyer is only 40 years old. Which ever school landed him would have a very good coach for a long, long time.
