Strange.

Here are the Washington Redskins, coming off three consecutive losses, mired at 3-8 and a 2004 playoff afterthought, having just been bested by two teams in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh seemingly operating on an entirely different level ... and yet I can’t shake a persistent feeling that “something” is about to happen.

Something that’s going to put toothy, goofy grins on a lot of faces around here.

Makes little sense, I grant you. It’s not hard to recognize that, despite the amazing and unexpected performance turned in by the defense all year, and despite special teams that have come around and played mostly solid ball for several weeks, and despite a coaching staff that I know is qualified to field a more-than-competitive team, and, perhaps most frustratingly, despite a roster studded with offensive players who certainly seem capable of performing at a high level ... the Redskins’ offense has still yet to show it can be anything other than—using the term advisedly—godawful.

Add to that the fact that scientists have yet to invent the instrument sensitive enough to measure the amount of “good fortune” the Redskins have had over the past few years (*), and you have to wonder why anyone would feel particularly sanguine about the teams’ chances of suddenly finding that mysterious “something” that portends a lasting change.

And yet ...

Hopefully you're crystal ball is in working order, we need to get something going against the Giants, if the only team on our schedule that we can compete with is the 49ers then it'll be a looooooong offseason.

"Synergy" is the key word. We've been hungrily waiting for the Running game AND the Passing game to click on one page. Positive synergy... I feel it also. Besides... we need it... and deserve it.

we are certainly due if not out of dumb luck alone.

I was just watching the steelers game again and I was paying special attention to ramsey and I have to say he played pretty good stepping up in some sticky pressure situations and making good throws. Our receivers have to know they need to step it up especially after the embarassement of last week if they do I think ramsey and portis are going to get it done.

You know, playoffs aren't out of the question if we finish 8-8...but in order for us to make the playoffs, we have to count on alot more people losing, like the rams, giants, and vikings.

Well, we can certainly start helping the "gints" lose - right here, today, right now !

Dear Mr. Sunshine,

At the risk of presenting a thought somewhat too nuanced for ya ... part of the reason FOR the "feeling" I have about this game---you know, the one the piece is actually about---is precisely because I think our D is going to eat young Mr. Manning alive, and that that will play a PART in the synergy that finally lets this team break through.

Thanks for the thought, though ... and just for future reference, I could hear you just fine without the SHOUTING. :)

man, if we had a decent offense this whole season would be different... if GW stays and gibbs gets a couple of key free agents, we could dominate next year
