I've been watching ESPN and hearing about the big free agents that are shopping around. What are some "sleeper" free agents that you think the Nationals should go after this offseason?

It seems there a number of good free agents, but I haven't followed baseball enough to know who we should try and get. I think we'll be fairly passive because I don't think we have an owner yet, if I'm not mistaken.

Way too expensive. Actually, I dont mind the way our offense looks right now. I think we need some starting pitchers and bullpen help.

I would like to see them get a starter like, Carl Pavano, Odalis Perez, Steve Kline. Not sure they have the $$$ for Pavano since it appears BoSox, Yanks, and O's will battle it out for him. A's want to ship one of their top three starters, problem being for the Nats is, with the Nats beoing the former Expos, this team needs to rebuild from minors up and really has no one to offer right now.

Yeah, i went through the projected batting order, and they are going to have to split at bats between Endy Chavez (.275, 32 steals) and the more powerful Termell Sledge (.270, 15 hr's in only 400 at-bats). There is really no room for any more bats on the team. They have 4 outfielders who are capable starters. Nick Johnson and Vinny Castilla will put up some decent numbers at the corner spots, and guzman and vidro is one of the better middle infields in the majors.

The problem is the rotation where they need to find a few middle of the order pitchers who can eat some innings. They dont need an ace for this season, but they need 1 or two more guys who you can count on for 160+ innings with an era of under 5.

The order is fine, and if the pitchers can keep us in games, then we could win 70-75 games.

The article in the post said perez wanted to come here, but doubted we had the money to get him here. It really all depends on whether we get an owner before all the decent free agents are gone.
