we are 5-9 despite the fact we have
1. A RB who is approaching 1500 yards and
2. The #2 Defense in the NFL.
The general rule in the NFL is that you win by playing good D and controlling the clock by running the ball. Why are we a losing team IMO?
1. Redzone offense and/or Redzone gameplan;
2. (Although I hate to say it)Gibbs - lack of creativity and stubborness (Brunell).
3. Penalties
What a weird season!!!

i started a thread on this very subject last week. the general consensus was that the zebras hate us and wanted to screw us over. that, and a QB named mark brunell that couldnt make a heatseeking missle fly within 180 degrees of the sun.

i dunno, there is only 1 degree that is not included in 180 degrees from the sun and i doubt that mark brunell has that kind of accuracy

this is the worst year for us to have a bad offense. we wasted a great year of defense, and plus all the other teams in the nfc has been bad.

Im tired of hearing our fans complaining about referee calls. It is part of the game, at some point or the other every team has been screwed by penalties this year.
Blame the season on Joe Gibbs and Mark Brunell before you come up with conspiracy theories about how the refs are out to get us.

It is absolutely amazing that we have a chance to go to playoffs this season as well

Truth hurts.
Our guys fight hard, as Joe Gibbs says. They better. Since he's back, the scheduler and the opponents will play us like every game is a playoff game from now on, starting next weekend.
I expect perfection in all phases of the game. Its all I ask, and I am sure others have asked for more, but I will be reasonable.

i hope this means that next year with p-ram under center the WHOLE season, and brunell becoming a ty/koy whoever-detmer-for-philly sort of coach until we can cut him, we will be, nothing short of, fantastic

Yeah, it is a shame. At least we can feel better about our team this year than we did this time last year. We can see that Gibbs is shaping the team and working on securing HIS players. I think one of the challenges that is never discussed was changing the philosophy of the team. We go from a wide open, pass happy offense to playing smashmouth, hardnosed football. That transformation is gonna take some time but we're turning the corner now.

it really is too bad, if we had like any type of offense at all we could/would be talking superbowl right now, knowing how bad the NFC is

I heard the announcer say twice on Saturday that we would be 10-2-1 if we scored 21 pts per game!!! That makes my stomach turn ... damn you Brunell!!!

Got give props to Gibbs and the boys for getting the plays in yesterday. I don't recall seeing a Delay of Game penalty or a timeout because of slow playcalling. Let's hope we can keep that up!

I'm so tired of people ripping Gibbs. I know Brunell stunk, but we're finally going to sppon fed some consistency with the Redskins and like it or not we need that now. I am so excited this offseason b/c we won't be turning over half the roster.
We'll have a new C (maybe), possibly a new #2 WR (maybe someone like Jacobs just slides into that spot), a new DE (maybe)... what else? Other than guys returning from injury we're finally going to get to see the Redskins have time to gel.
Thank you coach Gibbs for bringing stability to the least stable franchise in the NFL.

My thoughts on why we didn't have a better record this season.
1. QB play. Brunell - I like the guy and I defend Gibbs' decision to stick with him, but he didn't produce. Ramsey - I love the guy, but he regressed from 2003. He single handily threw away about four games by throwing stupid INTs late in the game.
2. Turnovers period. INTS and Portis' fumble-itis early in the year REALLY hurt.
3. Jansen getting hurt. I think it was the toughest injury for us to overcome.
4. Officiating. It isn't whining when the NFL has at least twice had to send us letters of apology.
5. Penalties. It is better than 2003, but we need to cut these in half for next season
6. Play calling. I defend Gibbs left and right, but there are time when I think it is acceptable to criticize his decisions as long as it isn't a 4 paragraph tirade ripping him for everything under the sun. I just think there where Portis could have gotten the ball more.
7. Untimely Defensive lapses - Our defense has been mad amazing this season, but they definitely wore down on some games and failed to make big time plays in others. Off the top of my head, Cleveland and B-more both put together late drives to go ahead against our D. As good as they've been, I look forward to seeing them improve if we can find a pass rusher.

Ramsey cost us four games?????????????? Somebody needs to watch some re-runs of games. We have only lost 3 games with Ramsey as QB. You cannot possibly blame the first Giants game on Ramsey when he came in trailing by 13 points, 10 of which came off turnovers from Brunell (one INT, one fumble).
This season was lost by Joe Gibbs. Period. Terrible offensive scheme. Ridiculously stubborn refusal to admit teh $43 million dollar mistake. Chalk it up to Gibbs' learning curve and expect better next year.
We were/are the second best team in the NFC.

Lack of execution on 3rd and short. Never have understood why Gibbs doesnt bring in Betts or Rock or even hand off to Cooley on 3rd and 1.

4 games? This is laughable. We wouldn't have been as close to the Giants as we were had he not been in the game. Same with the Eagles. Don't recall any others where you could try to pin a loss on him. We could probably have chalked up 2-3 more wins if he was playing too.

If the offense could have made a first down or two, the defense wouldn't have had to have been on the field the 99% of the game. I don't think you can criticize the defense for "lapses" like this when they get no help from the offense.
