I've read on several MBs today that will shock me if it is indeed true. Which I don't think is, but....
Its being reported that if Saban leaves LSU for the Miami Dolphins job, guess who LSU would be interested in talking too? Steve Spurrier! Apparently he hasn't signed his contract with South Carolina.
The other name being thrown around is Auburn coach, Tubberville. [?] So to butcher his name but....:D
Like I said. I don't think this is true. I'm just passing on a rumor thats circulating several college football sites today/tonight....

TUberville's got a good thing going in Auburn and I can't see why he would want to leave. I think SC is a much better fit for Spurrier than LSU. Should be interesting to see if anythig comes of it.

What does LSU have the SC doesn't, in Spurrier's case?

Winning tradition. Lou Holtz couldn't make South Carolina a "big time" winner. They improved but never really took that extra step.
Going to LSU, he could have his choice again of recruits. Apparently he's not happy with his recruiting so far. Many are saying that he's upset that kids aren't flocking to South Carolina like he and everyone else expected.
He wouldn't have that problem at LSU since they are one year removed from a National Championship.

i would believe he already signed the contract. im pretty sure that its already agreed upon, 7 years for something like $1.25 mil a year. butch davis could be an option though.

I don't follow college, but I've heard SC has a really talented young team and Spurrier is close friends with the AD?

Well, the reason I'm not buying it is due to his membership to Augusta.
Ryan has a good point. I too think he has signed it.

And don't forget the membership to Augusta. :golf:
Sorry CarMike, we posted at the same time.

Wonder why no contract was signed yet (by Spurrier). I suppose that membership to Augusta is a pretty nice perk.

The membership at Augusta is nice but the course we see on TV is only open to play for a few weeks out of the year (even to members).
If this is true, SS will have LSU in the BCS hunt in 1-2 years, if he stays he could have SC in the hunt in 5-7.

What was Florida doing before SS got there?
What did dook do before SS got there?
I think SS can win anywhere, in the collegiate level.

All good points ISF. But at the same time, what did ND do before Lou Holtz? We all know what they have done since he left.
I don't want to offend anyone from Columbia, SC....but from what I've its not exactly Florida. Or Durham for that matter. I've never been to Columbia but I've heard that its pretty grim place to visit....who knows.

OMT, the QB Spurrier finally landed was a guy from Kannapolis, NC. He had already commited to a college but once Spurrier called, he dropped his oral commitment.......to Richmond....lol

I expected to hear from you Kenny. :D
Heres a quote from the Charlotte Observer...
The first quarterback to commit to play for Steve Spurrier at USC is a North Carolina native who has been successful at every sport he has tried, led his team to a state championship this month, but flew under the recruiting radar of most major Division I-A schools.
Tommy Beecher called Spurrier on Friday to commit to the Gamecocks. Beecher, a senior at Concord High north of Charlotte, chose the Gamecocks over Division I-AA Richmond, which was the only other school to offer him a scholarship.

I think he could win at the pro level (i know that isn't a popular opinion). i think he failed miserably at people (player) management... he treated the players like adults and left them to manage themselves. also, he didn't inspire, often leaving pre game speeches to assistant coaches.
