Ethan Albright, LS
Known for his bright red hair, Albright has quietly served as the team's long snapper on punts and field goals for the last four seasons. In a job that gets little notice unless something goes wrong, Albright has been steady and reliable during his tenure in Washington.
Antonio Pierce, MLB
Pierce was mostly a backup and special teams player--until this season. With Mike Barrow sidelined with knee tendonitis, Pierce stepped in at middle linebacker and started all 16 games, recording a team-high 160 tackles (109 solo), one sack and four interceptions. He was named a second alternate to the Pro Bowl.
Joe Salave'a, DT
Salave'a was a free agent pickup last offseason who, after seeing limited action in 2003 and sitting out of football the previous year, excelled in Gregg Williams' defensive scheme. He logged 30 tackles (22 solo), five tackles for a loss and two sacks.
Restricted
Lemar Marshall, LB
Marshall filled in at outside linebacker when LaVar Arrington underwent arthroscopic knee surgery after Week 2. Marshall turned out to be more than a fill-in, though. He started the final 14 games and logged 82 tackles (52 solo), 1.5 sacks and four passes defensed.
Demetric Evans, DE
Evans was among the newcomers to the Redskins' defense who, given an opportunity when Phillip Daniels was sidelined, stepped in and surpassed expectations. He started eight games at defensive end and registered 31 tackles (15 solo) and 2.5 sacks.
Rock Cartwright, RB
Cartwright served mostly on special teams units last season. In 2003, he logged 411 yards and four touchdowns on 107 carries--excelling in goal line situations--and added 18 catches for 176 yards.
Tim Hasselbeck, QB
Hasselbeck served as the Redskins' third quarterback all season, behind Patrick Ramsey and Mark Brunell. In 2003, Hasselbeck started five games and completed 95-of-177 passes for 1,012 yards, five touchdowns and seven interceptions.
I'd kind of like to keep Smoot but with Springs and Taylor already in the backfield I think we can easily get by with whoever replaces him, we also probably can't afford him.

I notice smoot isnt on the list, I agree smoot would be nice to get back, but if hes askin for too much let him go, give him top 10 corner money, not top 5 casue hes def not a top 5, hes not even the best corner on the team

i agree with your list but i'd replace Rock with Sellers. Rock doesn't have a place on the team as a RB so he needs to get back to his FB weight but at FB he's not better than Sellers. and Sellers is a bone crusher on ST's. yeah he made some boneheaded penalties on ST's this year but he'll learn from it. we need him to block in front of Portis.
and our 2 exclusive rights FA's we need to sign are Warner and C. Clemons.

At some point, you just need to pay your marquee players. If we let both Bailey AND Smoot go within a couple of years of each other, I think that is a big mistake. Quality CBs just don't come along every day. I would have been much happier to take the Portis money to keep a great CB and accept a drop off at RB than a bigger drop off at CB. Sure there are great RB's that will excel anywhere, but I think more often than not the o-line and the system can make good RB's put up great numbers; you see it over and over again.
As for a safety and/or a linebacker making up for the loss of a great cover guy, hmmmmm.

I agree with everyone on the list except for the rock.
I think we will probably grab a real fullback via free agency or the draft.

I'm glad you brought up the boneheaded plays b/c I almost went on the field after him during the Iggle game.

Sellers killed any momentum we had following Springs off-world trip.

I agree with the whole list, except Cartwright. He is not needed here any longer.
Smoot....rejection of a $11 mil bonus, see ya later. Spread that cash aroudn in free agency for a quality OG and C

i honestly think if they are willing to pay Smoot 10 M bonus money, there are better corners you could get for that money (like a Springs) and anyways i think Walt Harris is going to fully recover and next year will be the 2nd year back from his knee injury so i think he will ready to start again and may even be better than Smoot. I hope we draft a killer strong safety to team up with Taylor to round out the secondary, or maybe a really fast undersized linebacker to convert to strong safety. probably could grab that kind of guy late in the draft.

Nah. To me that would be foolish. Ryan Clark and Matt Bowen are just fine. There are more pressing needs at OG, OT, C, and WR

It seems weird to think of Smoot as gone... but I am beginnign to want to spread the money elsewhere and try to get the best available player in the draft (rather than hoping the draft nets us a DE, C, G, WR).
The key here is to spend on young vets... not the Bruce Smiths of the world.

We probably shouldn't keep Rock I really can't argue with it but I really like the guy, personal preference would be keeping him because he's a low cap hit and takes up the required FB slot.

Sellers didn't do much this year, except the occasional penalty and nice play on ST. I thought he was going to be a nice fit at H-B in this offense with his aggressiveness but with Cooley playing so well there is almost no reason to keep both him and Rock.

Sellers is gone...too many brain farts getting a real FB with NFL Experience would be a good idea and much help to portis.

SM I'm all for that but, "good" young vets are highly sought after commodities that usually come w/ a restricted tag. I'd rather avoid "overpaying" as we have been in the past.

I certainly hope y'all DON"T have a clue what you are talking about when it comes to Rock.
He was a Special teams player of the game twice this year.........and was a Team Captain.
Gibbs gave him many props during his last press conference.
So, maybe y'all dont know so much.
I can only hope.

Other than a "wish" for Smoot back, Rock C. is gone. His only chance is in development for a year, in NFLE, while he gets his weight back. We could exclusive rights tag him then. He'd still be a force for ST, and should Sellers go down, he'd already be in football shape and have real reps prior to filling in.

What do you mean "in football shape"? He played in every game after the first 4 this year. He was on every special teams. He is gaining his weight back.

Like someone said beforehand, Rock was a ST monster this season. All Sellers did was prove the guy is a moron. I'd also like to see Rock go back to FB. But to say he isn't needed is not very intelligent. You guys want to get rid of D-Mac & Gardner because they don't play ST, but you want to get rid of one of the best ST'ers on the Redskins? Doesn't make any sence to me.
On the subject of NFLE, maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea for our entire offense minus Cooley, Betts, & maybe Coles.
Also, am I the only one that wants to see Rock play LB in the preseason?

Don't forget Demetric Evans. He beat our warner for the starting role. Joe Salave'a is the key. This guy HAS to return!

Rock was nto a monster on ST's. he played well, but Sellers, Thrash, Khary Campbell,a nd Ade Jimoh had way more ST tackles and did better jobs. Rock is not a Fullback this offense requires. If your gonna plow someone ahead to block for Portis, it needs to be someone bigger than Portis. The Rock fascination ends with me. Not convinced of Rock at all.

I think we should keep Smoot, even if we have to trade Arrington and his huge contract to keep him.Smoot has been the best cb on the team for 2 years now and as much as I would hate to see Arrington on another team it is very evident that our Defence is better without the Baileys,Trotters and even the Arringtons in it.We have 2 outstanding CBs right now and I think they need to keep it that way for the defence to stay at the top of the league. The Smoot signing in my opinion will have a huge impact on our defensive success/failure next year. :Peace:

Trading Lavar is not an option. It would destroy the Redskins cap. Don't believe the made up Moss rumor. Simply put, the Redskins cap impact by trading now would cause a release of several Redskisn just to get under cap.

My thoughts about Rock go way beyond "fascination." He is a Fullback who was told by Byner to lose weight as the Gibbs offense didn't need a fullback.
And of course, this is what makes the world go around.........two people who have different views of the same thing.
Of course, only one of us is correct.
I will accept your apologies later. :lol1: :lol1:
