Check out this Cowboy fan getting owned in a thread on a football site i am a big part of :D It is a "Roy Williams or Sean Taylor" thread, where the post says "Its Roy Williams but you decide." Every response that came back was for Taylor :lol1:

Roy Williams or Sean Taylor (http://football-freaks.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=6999)

But with all bias aside, which would u pick for right now, not potential. Of course i still say Taylor, with how bad Williams played this year.

Taylor...he's alot like Roy Williams though. Roy Williams either makes big hits or just gets absolutely trucked. Taylor's a bit more consistant on his hits, but on coverage, thats another issue...he either gets a pick or gets owned.

IMO Roy Williams would be better as a strong safety. His hits are ruthless. But Sean Taylor is more of a complete package because he can cover too. Williams in not a good cover safety. Right now Williams is slightly better because of experience but I'd take Sean Taylor because of the bigger upside.

There are sensible football fans out there.....

Taylor rules and williams maybe a linebacker next season if parcells thinks he is getting any bigger.

Sean Taylor. He is a core player that Gibbs is talking about. He brings a type of arrogance to our defense that if anybody is going to score on our D, they will have to go through Taylor first. He scares the living hell out of receivers (for example T.O. jumped out of bounds instead of getting hit...dont forget Todd "Alligator arms" Pinkston).

RIGHT NOW its williams, but without a doubt you take taylor becasue of his tremendous upside, If he continues to do what he needs to he will surpass ed reed as the best saftey in the NFL. I take taylor because of the upside

RIGHT NOW, i take taylor. williams is playing out of position but he still gets beat too much. williams biggest assest is the fact that he can deliver that "woo" hit. taylor can do the same, plus cover.....he justs needs to learn how to wrap up!

Taylor, no question. Next season is going to be scary, well, for opposing receivers that is.

Williams got all the attention in the world because he hits like a mack truck and nabbed 5 INTs and 2 TDs his rookie year... Since then...

Taylor is the real deal, this guy could line up at cornerback if he wanted to and dominate. He has made his share of rookie mistakes but if you coached the Cowboys, would you line up Roy Williams one on one against Randy Moss??

I rest my case.

Sean Taylor is going to have a great 2005 year. one thing im sick of is people just knocking this kid all the time, he had a rough rookie year. Now i agree he needs to grow up and mature. I believe he well then we as fans can judge him, hes only 21 and in a new city, surroundings. He's done some stupid things that i dont like but i fully support Sean 100%, hes got good veteren teamates that look out for him and advise him.

I wouldn't say playing at the line of scrimage is a weakness for Sean. Did you see Taylor lay out Moe Williams at the goal line last week against the Vikings and plow him backwards two yards? Apparently not...

The reason Taylor is the man is because he can dominate in coverage and at the line... In fact his biggest lapses this year have been in pass coverage but he's still at a way higher level than Williams already.

About the link in joshes tread with the Taylor highlites of last week. The last play on that clip is the one where he crushed Burleson going out of bounds and was all in his head. If I'm not mistaken a couple of plays later Burleson drops a perfect wide open pass in the middle of the field. Hmmmmmm I wonder why he did that..... He might have thought #36 was lurking?? Roy was the only good player you had in the secondary and he had to make all the plays. Roy is also a little chubby so all he can do is hit because he can't cover a rock with paper.

You might want to try and sale Roy Williams somewhere that people are buying it. This is Sean Taylor country. Although, I am grateful to Roy for balling up TO and thus keeping the Eagles in the toilet.

In deference to our Cowboy fan visitors, I have to say in all sincerity that I respect Roy's game. He can really lay the wood. He's probably the most feared safety in the league for his hitting and ability to fill on run-D.

But, Roy is a linebacker. I don't think he is fast enough to cover consistently at the pro level like he could do in college. Used in Cover-2 like John Lynch, he's OK, but asked to slide over on the slot or pick up a scat back/fast TE and he struggles.

I like Sean Taylor because he can cover, literally, like a good corner and hit like a good safety. I would put him in Lynch's or Darren Sharpers league for hitting if not quite in Roy's league. The difference is, Sean can hit all the people Roy can't catch almost as hard as Roy. I regularly sit watching ST play deep center and say, "Blowed him up real good!" :guillo:

Hey kiddo....Roy is the best linebacker playing safety in the game.

He is not a safety anymore...

flave1969
01-07-2005, 09:10 PM
So both these guys can hit. Safety is about more than just hitting. You need at least one of your safeties too be able to cover and Taylor has excellent coverage skills. The fact that he hits hard also puts fear in those people who go across the middle. I like what I have seen of Williams, but I like Seans coverage skills. Sean needs too wrap up on his tackles more because big hits don't work every time. The debate is a little pointless too me because we are talking about a third year player as opposed too a rookie. Williams had a very good rookie year but I certainly do not think he has attained that same high standard since. That said I think Reed, Williams and Taylor are the best safeties in the league. They certainly would make a good tandem.

i take taylor....both of these guys hit like mack trucks, so i think they are about even in the respect.....but taylor brings something to the table that williams will never have, height and speed.....the speed that this guys has is rediculous for a safety...that speed gives him range that is unmatched in the nfl....

i think you only have to look back to the vikings games when he basically lined up against randy moss and preceeded to out jump him for a jump ball (freakin' amazing)

once this kid's head catches up with the rest of his skillset, he will change the position...

Madden is known to be an idiot at times so if I were you I wouldn't take his opinions to the bank so quickly.....however, Roy Williams is a great player and one the top safeties in the league; and right now, a better player than Sean Taylor.

But lets keep it real. Taylor is better as a rookie than Williams. He has more physical gifts. He is way, way more versatile than Roy Williams will ever be. As long as the kid stays healthy, he will far surpass Roy Williams. And that is saying a lot cuz Roy is very good.

All kidding aside I think Taylor is the second best safety in the NFC (Dawkins) and Williams is third, but that is MY OPINION. What fact ? Is the 2005 season here already ? Fact is Sean Taylor could get injured, Fact is Sean Taylor plays the free safety position and Roy Williams could end up playing his natural position strong safety thus he can not be an alternative to a free safety pro bowl.

Keep it up, Ms Cleo.

Yeah and it's also fact that the Cowboys could be contracted and the rights to Roy Williams sold to a Japanese flag football team. Facts are that Roy Williams' stats have steadily declined from his rookie year and that he was frequently owned on the field all year long. Please dispute these or continue to pass the buck.

You look but you don't see. Roy Williams position is strong safety. He plays free safety this year but will be back to SS next year. Must I state the obvious every single time !

This coming from a poster who loves to point out whining and excuse making on the part of all Skins fans... You're right, we'll never see Roy Williams get beat or miss tackles or get juked out of his shoes when he's back at strong safety...

bottom line, when people talked about the dallas defence they generally talked about the decline in performance by the secondary, and lets face it, roy williams slumping season clearly added to that. on the other hand, the redskins were 'supposed' to get worse on defense with the loss of champ bailey, not to mention injuries to matt bowen, andre lott, and the cutting of ohalate, instead it was obviously the strength of the team, and sean taylor was as big a part of that as any. this guy frightens nfl veterans, and he doesnt take any garbage from anyone, whether its TO or the cop that arrested him for that bogus dui. lets chalk up roy williams decline to realizing he's going to marry not even the hottest member of destiny's child.

True Dallas owns the Skins and I can see yall are upset at that mater but that gives u no reason to think ST is better then RW!!!

You can argue but Roy Williams is a Two Time Pro Bowler and Sean Taylor is an Alternate. If he is the dream you are talking about why ant he in the Probowl? Why?
Hugh? Why? Give me all the Excuses You can come up with!!! He is a rookie? He hasnt grasped the game yet? You tell me!! He hasnt done anything impressive yet and he is the best? As I said earlier Jerry Jones owns two teams now! the Dallas Cowboys and the Washington Redskins!!!

First of all go back to 7th grade and take part in an English class or two, you'd be doing us all a huge favor.

Second, Taylor is an alternate for the Pro Bowl in his rookie season in which he did not start and played sparingly in the first several games. He also had some legal problems which clearly put a bit of a scarlet letter on him and cost him an additional game. Can't defend that, it was a terrible decision, but it also has bearing on his Pro Bowl credentials... Also the Skins were 6-10. The Eagles were 13-3 and Jeremiah Trotter is a starter in the Pro Bowl after starting half a season. Nuff said.

For you to say that he hasn't done anything impressive is simply absurd though and you are obviously some 15 year old who has never watched a Redskins game (or any game for that matter). In the last game of the season I personally watched Sean Taylor covering Randy Moss one on one in many occasions and locking him down (one signature Moss circus catch aside).

Taylor also made a great solo tackle on the goal line to prevent a touchdown on first and goal from Moe Williams that eventually lead to only a field goal. Receivers are routinely dropping balls in obvious fear of our tandem of safeties... Taylor is generating momentous praise for his play from basically anyone who ever watched him play this season...

Bottom line, he can cover and hit. Roy Williams can only do one. Feel free to reply with all caps and a dozen exclamation points please.

If bragging about Roy Williams injuring a guy for the rest of the season is your best argument for the guy, you aren't going very far in proving your point.

roywilliams, why would u brag about the TO injury? roy williams didnt hit him hard, TO's legs just got under him in an awkward position. if roy hit him real hard, than u can brag. actualy, that tackle shows how bad of a tackler roy williams is. that link just shows the reason why i hate the cowboys so much.

ass, i remember seeing ur little lover roy williams getting burnt by a slow tight end aaron schobel for like a 60 yard touchdown. at least taylor got beat by a wideout in zone. if u wanna talk, look at the stats, taylor has way better #s than roy.

IGNORE THEM AND THEY WILL GO AWAY:

All us Redskins fans on the Redskins site know Sean Taylor is better than "Biscuit" wanna-be Defensive tackle Roy Williams.

It's pretty obvious this kid just enjoys posting on our website and bringing this same old tired thread back up just because he has a crush on R.Williams.

So without further delay I am calling for the bat signal to end the insanity to allow this Roy Williams fan posting on the Redskins site to seek help for his problem. Do this kid a favor and ignore him so he can find a cowboy home to play in.

INSERT BAT SIGNAL HERE

roy williams is one-dimensional. he can hit because he is about 240 pounds at safety. but he's not that tall at only 6'-0" and not that fast at that weight, so he's not that great in coverage, as is Ed Reed. Ed Reed is not the indimating force that williams is, but he is a ball hawk and fast and good in coverage. Taylor is big, tall, fast, can cover, can hit, is a ball hawk and intimidates. if i had to choose one i'd take Taylor. as a matter of fact, if we had roy williams i'd like to see him converted to strong safety. i'd take Ed Reed at free safety before roy williams, but Taylor first, because he is like a combination of all the best abilities of both of them.

RoyWilliams1575

Roy Williams is a natural Strong Safty I admit he cant cover but he got more picks than Taylor got his rookie season and 2 of them went for a TD and if I remember corectly Roy returned one for a TD on the skins for a 70-80 yard int return!

Has Taylor had a Int return for a TD yet

you RoyWilliams bum, just wait this year and years to come Sean Taylor is gonna blow up next season with his stats!! Ed Reed's rookie stats are nearly exact to Sean's rookie stats, Ed didnt have a td in his rookie year, and hes a better safety than that bum Roy williams, Ed's numbers got better each year, Sean's will do the same! :dalassuk:
