View Full Version : Coach Gibbs one year anniversary.

One year ago today, our HOF coach came back to lead us to where should be. The Top!

Now I know we had a tough year this year. But patience people! ;)

When Dick Vermiel came back, his first year the Rams went 3-13. He eventually won a Super Bowl with the Rams.

So, please, do me a favor. I don't want this to turn into a bashing of Gibbs for this past year. Celebrate the 1 year anniversary for his return. And the eventual return of the Washington Redskins.

Mike I agree. JG like to take his time and get the right people in the right places. Hopefully this year will see more of his style coming through and the ring rust will have been shaken off.

Why can't we have football year round?

I'm still very excited about our future, because I'm a Gibbs Girl!

Amen...glad to have him back

:Offtopic:

Now that brings me to a stupid question I've been meaning to ask. How does NFL Europe work? Does each pro team have the equivalent of a farm team in Europe? If so, do the Redskins send their players to a particular team?

Players aren't all sent to one team. They seperate them throughout the league.

Sorry, but I thought more people would be interested that a year ago today, coach Gibbs was brought back as our coach.

Interesting fact about his hire. Last year on this day, hR had a total of 700+ members here. We now have 2,157. Thats over 1,400 member in a years time...

From NFLEurope.Com:

Each year NFL clubs assign a minimum of six players from their rosters to participate in NFLE.

Mike is correct...they are spread over different teams....

I remember walking around at work and people asking me what is wrong as I was pretty close to tears....

I am not an emotional man by any stretch, but I was just overwhelmed with all of the memories of the Awesome Redskins led by the greatest coach and man on earth.

I got home and watched every piece of news that was available and when it was confirmed I immediately called all my cowboy fan friends and said the rivalry is back on now.

Man am I glad he's back and I expected growing pains this year. Gibbs will be fine.

Thanks for answering my stupid NFL Europe Questions....always wondered about that.

A year of hope and disappointment. But I still have high hopes for the future.

I remember the night before, I was falling asleep watching the news at 11. George Michael said there was a possibility of Gibbs coming back and in my half awake state, I was sure I was dreaming. The next morning in my car, 980 was all over it and I was yelling " YEEESSSS" out my window and pumping my fist in the air. I know the other people around me on rt.7 thought I was some kind of crazed maniac.

Yes. I agree. It is hard to not have high hopes with Gibbs back. Gibbs will right the ship. I have said in thread after thread after thread, you can not, as a rational fan, expect Joe Gibbs to right a ship that has been sinking for 12 years, in just six months. It is a work in progress and for this first time in a decade, I am optimist about next year. Gibbs has a full season watching from the sidelines, revieiwing tapes, getting to know each player and their habits, now he knows what he has, knows how to use players better (you can tell the progress in the latter par tof the season), and knows the weaknesses to address. NOW, Let's sit back and watch the changes he makes to better the team for 2005.

Hail Joe Gibbs!

Simply put it was one of the best days of my life andI'm not positive, but I think I may have found this site b/c I was so excited and I wanted to talk football now that the man was back!

I still feel that way... I know we haven't been good for awhile but I'm sick of the negativity.

I remember that day one year ago like it was yesterday.

When I heard the great news, I called my wife and told her. She said "I don't need your bullsh*t this early in the morning." I said "But it is true." She then said "Enough" and hung up on me.

I then called my sister (a cowboys fan) and told her. She said "In your dreams" and laughed at me. I said "Turn on the ESPN" and then hung up.

10 minutes later, my wife called and said "Oh baby, I just heard it from a co-worker. I'm sorry I didn't believe you earlyer."

Then my sister called me and said "Oh sh*t, Gibbs is back?"

I then laughed at HER and hung up. :)

I am not an emotional man either, but I will admit, I had tears rolling down my face watching the Gibbs press confrence at Redskin Park that day.

I am excited also Mom but it has nothing to with me being a Gibbs girl :D

I wish our Skins were playing this week. Football season is sooooooooo far away

I was still very sick from my ordeal last winter but I Was running( ok not really) up and down the hall almost jumping up and down. My ex wife told me she was afraid I was going to end up back in the hospital if I didn't settle down but I didn't care at all. I was so excited. Still am

My top 4 days as a skins fan:

1. Gibbs and skins win team's First Super Bowl

2. Gibbs and skins win team's Second Super Bowl

3. Gibbs and skins win team's Third Super Bowl

4. Gibbs is coming back

(Hopefully soon, #4 will be moved down the list by another Super Bowl win.)

I will never forget I was up in the middle of the night and signed into HR and saw the early rumors flying about the possiblity. I began to check out every Redskins and sport site I could looking for confirmation. I was calling friends at 6:00 am spreading the news. What a great day that was and what a great memory it is today, it just renews my joy and enthusiasm for next year to think about it again!

Having him back is huge for this area

Having the Wizards winning again and baseball back is like a signal that our sports fortunes are a changin here in the Nation's capital.

i remember that day well. a friend of mine that lives in hawaii called and friend in north carolina who called my best friend who then called me. he said guess who we got for head coach, i said "oh did we get dennis green" (because i thought he was the best candidate that was out there at the time) he then told me gibbs and i almost fainted, but not quite because i had to see for myself, i frantically searched the internet and watched tv for about 45 minutes until i had hard proof and once i had it, i didn't sit down all day, i just paced and ran around calling everyone i know.

I remember the day too. I woke up in a house all by myself and went down to eat breakfast. The days newspaper is always on the table, and I remember glancing at the sports page and seeing Gibbs picture on it with his racing headset on. I thought to myself, "Oh cool, they're doing a little thing on Gibbs (kind of like a 'where is he now' type thing)." Then I read closer and found out that Snyder is close to a deal that would bring Joe Gibbs back to D.C. to coach the Redskins, and I was in absolute shock. I mean absolute shock. I stood there in the middle of the kitchen frozen. It's great to have Gibbs back.

I remember sitting on my Mom's couch in Virginia. I had just gotten in from LA and was jet lagged, recovering from cancer treatment, and generally feeling like crap. It was 11:00 Eastern time when an ESPN anchor came on and said, "This may be some sort of New Years tomfoolery, but a rumor just in to ESPN says that Joe Gibbs has just been signed as the new coach of the Washington Redskins. More on the next Sportcenter." Needless to say I was up until 2:00 A.M. watching every sports channel I could find for more on the story, my pain forgotten. Thanks, Joe!

When Dick Vermiel came back, his first year the Rams went 3-13.

4-12 the next season if memory serves. If not for some guy named Warner, he might not be coaching in KC now.

Gibbs is a great man, we will win next year and then we will be on top of the football world again...

The best thing about the 80's was that we were as hated as the cowboys because everyone knew the words to our song.....

Madden had it on his list of things our opponets wanted to avoid. He said if the band is playing that song YOU ARE IN TROUBLE.
