A very interesting article in which Don Breaux concedes
that the Skins offensive approach became much too conservative.
Breaux says that turnovers early in the season (Ramsey..I'm assuming)
made the coaching staff reluctant to throw downfield.
Finally, Breaux says that it will be different next season and that they
will "Let 'er rip"...taking as many as ten deep shots a game.
It should be interesting.

While reading the Post, they say they're bringing in the QB coach from Jacksonville...My question is WHy would you hire a guy who just got fired for having one of the NFL's worst offenses....what can he bring us.

It goes on to say that he's used to a west Coast throw it down field type of offense but with Brunell could not do it based on his liking towards (MOBILE QUARTERBACKS....) but was prone to calling shorter pass plays....

So what do you think It'll be like here!!!!!! :banghead:

Fortunately, he won't be calling our plays. He may have a great knowledge of QBs and mechanics though. I'm not really going to get bent out of shape over a QB coach (unless it was Ryan Leaf or someone like that).

The Skins offense absolutely has to attack teams next year. I think it is just as important for the confidence level of the offense as it is strategically to make opponets move people out of the box for Portis.

I think the coaches have confidence now that Ramsey is not an interception machine as they witnessed in that 1st Giants game. Now Gibbs-Synder need to provide the skins the weapons to be able to go downfield consistently. (O-line and WR)

Greg Williams was smart enough to know that the easiest way to bring your defense together is to give them an attacking style. It builds unity faster and it makes everyone accountable for their specific responsibility. Team cohesion comes much faster when you are aggressive. People who defend or read and react tend to be passive and confused. Williams had our guys blitzing in their sleep so they were completely dominant by the time the season started.

Joe Gibbs has got to do the same thing with the offense. He has to open it up in the first batch of games just to show teams the Skins are coming after them and last year was a practice round for this year's domination. A healthy Coles and a very good WR on the other side of the field (Porter or Williams), would be a great step in the right direction.

I think you will also see Portis out in the flat creating mismatches with linebackers and slower safeties. Joe Gibbs was a big believer in taking what the defense gives you and taking your shots when the opportunity presented itself. I think he has learned that defenses are no longer reading and reacting so the only way to beat these blitzing defenses is to attack them first. If you can stop the teams from blitzing then you can have that balanced attack gibbs loves. The key is being able to run and pass on your own terms. Instead of 3rd and long you want 2nd and short which is the play action down of choice. The Skins used to kill people on 2nd and 5 or less in their glory days.

The word for 2005 will be aggressive on both sides of the football.

I agree. Apparently he is great with Quarterbacks.

In fact...he was the Offensive Coordinator at UVA who was instrumental in developing Matt Schaub. Schaub went on to win two Bowl games and got picked in the 3rd round of the NFL draft by Altanta this year to back up Vick.

I think it was a combination of watching an offense he thought had great tools, simply fizzle all season, and then the aspect of putting in a young QB that he simply did not have a trust level with yet. I think adding a new OG and C, and a big WR to compliment Coles will go a long way in addressing the offensive ills of Gibbs offense.

You can have the best mechanic work on the engine of your race car, but damn, don't let him drive 'cause he sucks! Your Pit Crew Boss is the best, but he can't drive either. It's the driver who drives and gets preped by these guys.

that article put a :) on my face. it basically told us what most of us already said....gibbs and co. simply did not trust these guys enough to throw everything out there. give them another offseason together and watch out! "Let 'Er Rip"......ha ha ha, im lovin it.....

I expect to see the redskins challenge teams early and often. They cannot live on dink and dunk football because we are not the 49ers.

Yes..we need to challenge teams early and often. That's why we
need to draft Troy Williamson. (Gibbs..hint, hint :) )

This is good news but the "Let 'er Rip" philosophy will not last if our offensive players do not execute. It is all on their shoulders now so they better be ready to take us to the next level.

I'd love to "Let 'er rip," but I'm not so sure our offensive line will provide us with that opportunity. We need to upgrade, big time, and then maybe we'll be able to go deep.

Before let her rip we have to accomplish the Get people who are NFL caliber plan....

Or let her rip will be R.I.P

Amen to that....

I am sure that Gibbs will get a good reciever and we will come out swinging next season.

Heck, they may start calling the Skins the mad bombers...

I agree we need a C bad........looks like a WR will be in the works if Gardner and D Mac leave (Edwards !st round ??) .........I like Dockery and Thomas, are you talking replacement or debth?
