I am thinking of getting my wife tickets to see the Heels beat down the Blue Devils this season, and I thought I would just check to see if anyone here has ever experienced this great rivalry in person and would be willing briefly share the experience. The tickets are on ebay are VERY expensive and money is tight with a new house, but I know this would be a dream come true for my wife so I'm trying...

Or does anyone have advice on other ways to obtain tickets? It is just tough to swallow paying $300-$500 per seat...

I've never been to see a UNC basketball game. Just can't afford the ticket prices.

But this would be the game to go see. And since dook is down this year, it'll be a good game to watch.

smoakme, if you don't mind me asking, where do you live? In the Triangle?

Smoak,
I can't give you a perspective on the UNC-Duke rivalry.

I did get to see Maryland play at Cameron Indoor Stadium the year before last and I'd have to say that was the absolute LOUDEST sporting event I have ever been to!

I was a speck of red in a sea of 8000+ screaming Dukies that night! It was an ESPN Nationally televised game and I could see Dickie V and Mike Patrick across from me and I was in the top bleachers opposite them. When Maryland got down by a few points the Cameron Crazies started yelling "Sweat Gary, Sweat" I couldn't hear myself think and my ears were ringing. After the game we walked out on Coach K court and took some good pics. That Maryland-Duke rivalry had gotten pretty intense the last few years and you could definately feel it!

That being said, with the Heels back on the scene, the UNC-Duke rivalry takes center stage again! I remember whent Jawad Williams was asked why he came to UNC and his response was "I want to beat Duke!". Well, it looks like this year he will finally get it done.

I hope you get to go! Tobacco Road is a must see for any ACC fan and it was one of the greatest experiences in my life!

Good Luck Smoak!

Actually I live in Delaware. We try to go see one game a year in February/March, and if you don't see a huge game, the tickets aren't too bad.

Tickets for non Duke games are less than $100 a piece and sometimes as low as < $50.

On our last trip we also went to see the lady Heels (b/c they happened to be home and we had nothing planned that night) and it was fun.

If any members would ever be interested in a group trip on a weekend, I'll be happy to look for tickets...

But the Dook tickets are expensive.... really expensive. Its hard to justify spending that.

Wow, great experience GibbsRules!

Were the Dook fans respectful at least?

I always rooted big time for MD in those games and as long as it doesn't hurt UNC, I always pull for the ACC (except Duke).

One year we went to see a game (FSU?) and then watched UNC/Duke in a sports bar where half the room ws for the Heels and the other was for Duke. It was the loudest I've experienced in a bar...

We've seen FSU, Virginia, and someone else? Clemson maybe? I don't remember.... I would have bid on tickets to Kentucky in December but we had a wedding.

It was great Smoak! I have to admit the Duke fans were very respectful. I guess when you win it's easy to be.

Yeah, I always pull for whoever is playing Duke too. I feel about Duke the way I feel about the Cowboys!

I used to have an apartment in Bear where I could see Rt 1... In late April we bought a house in Newark. My in-laws live in Middletown...

So where do you live?

FYI - Not sure what you mean by "your route", but at some point there are planning to close sections of Rt 1 for construction and they expect the area around Middletown to be pretty conjested.... but probably only during rush hour.

I deliver to Diamond State recapping in Bear. And Carl King in Middletown.

I have been out of work for a while now due to health issues since Sep. Hopefully I'll be able to get later this month.

My wife and I both LOVE North Carolina and came close to moving there but didn't want to be that far from family.

I definitely wish you the best for a speedy recovery and hopefully you'll be back in the home of tax free shopping soon... Not that there is really anything in Delaware to see.... blink and you'll miss it.

I've been to 7 Duke-UNC games and will attend my 8th very soon. As a college basketball fan, it is unlike anything you've ever experienced. If you're a UNC fan, tix to the game @ Duke are nearly impossible to get, and well, you probably don't want to go anyway, as it would be an unpleasant experience for any Heel.

when is the 1st matchup? i could only imagine the electricity in the building when it comes to these 2 teams.....with that said....

Really? Blue Devils are a rowdy bunch? I would guess looud, but as GibbsRules said, respectful.

I'm having trouble coming to terms with the cost for ONE game!!?

I don't know if they're rowdy, but they're rude. And I'm sure jerolight meant that UNC doesn't stand a chance to beat them in Cameron High School gymnasium.

Yes, the same team that beat the powerful Princeton Tigers last night by 13 points.

And watch, next i'll hear "SANTA CLARA"...:D But i'll give jero one thing. He seems like a cool dook fan. So I won't be too rough on him when UNC hammers dook this year. lol

"Cameron High School Gymnasium": Is that supposed to be an insult to the greatest college basketball venue in the nation?

"Princeton Tigers": Princeton ain't us. We're smarter...

"Santa Clara": Nuff said.

"When UNC hammers Duke this year": Maybe if Dean comes back to coach, Joe Gibbs style.

Nice try, Mike. Better luck next time.:)

All said w/the utmost respect of course. To you, not your basketball taste...

Tell me who Duke has beaten this year exactly? You haven't even played a team as talented as Santa Clara. I'm not going to start to completely bash Duke as I would like, but Princeton > Duke. As soon as you start playing real teams, you'll start losing to real teams. I wonder if Coach K's back problem is going to all of a sudden flare up again this year?

I'm hoping to be front and center for this rivalry next year (applied to Duke). I even prepared myself by learning how to spell Krzyzewski.

There's no quaetion about that. K has scheudled nothng but creampuffs the past few years in the OOC sched. The only ranked tam they played was MSU onl;y b/c they were required by the ACC and they barely beat an overrated, mediocre MSU team at home. duke is undefeeated but that is very deceiving plus redick always shrinks the bigger the games get and if it wasn't for him falling down every time a player coms near him he would average 6 points a game. he gets most of his points on the line b/c he has perfected the duke flop. Great FT shooter but overrated in all other aspects of his game, Jackie manuel will shut him down again- at least until he picks up his 4th foul 5 mins in

You can say all you want about the reg. season but here's what matters:

What we do against Carolina. (win)

What we do in March.

That's what matters.

Apparently the coaches don't see Duke being undefeated as "deceiving" (5th ranked)

Who cares if Reddick is one of the best FT shooters in the land? Points are points my friend. It's not like JJ is calling these fouls on himself.

Over the last few years yes but overall we own the series and those days are coming back.

What we do in March

You have 3 FFs in 9 years, hardly dominant even though the media would like us to believe so.

Apparently the coaches don't see Duke being undefeated as "deceiving" (5th ranked)

That
s b/c other teams have played good teams and lost while duke has beaten up on crempuffs, there's a reason that Carolina has a loss to a bad Santa Clara team(though SC did come very close against Gonzaga the other night) and is still ranked ahead of duke. We'll see once duke has to play some tough games in the ACC.

Who cares if Reddick is one of the best FT shooters in the land? Points are points my friend. It's not like JJ is calling these fouls on himself.

He is still vastly overrated and shrinks in big games.

This year you'll be losing twice to Carolina, and I hate both teams. We'll see what you do in March this year, but I expect no farther than the sweet 16. Duke always makes the early run to #1 due to an always weak early schedule. I think over the last 10 years, they have been ranked #1 at some point EVERY YEAR. Even 1995. January rankings mean nothing if a team hasn't even played a real team yet. Wait until you start playing real ACC teams. Carolina, Wake, GT, and maybe even NC State and Maryland > Duke this year.

Don't forget they never play on the opponents home court. If they play away out of the conference, its usually on a neutral court in New York. [MSG]

I would like to offer all you Duke haters some sugar to balance out the bitterness you have. I know people hate Duke but some of you are so frickin out of whack with your analysis that you look stupid. Go ahead and hate the team because they win but don't lose your head.

Gump84
01-09-2005, 02:30 PM
Everything said above was 100% accurate. Duke is almost ALWAYS overrated because they never play anyone at the beginning of the year unless they are forced to AND they never play away from home.

Did you guys hear about coach k and Lute Olsen? Lute Olsen wanted to schedule a home and home series with dook. CBS had already said they would love to schedule the game. So they called k and he said he would only play Arizona in New York at MSG. Lute told him to shove it. That came right from a dook MB. By a dook poster.

Wow, certainly not what I envisioned from the thread, but I think Dookies know the deal... They're not top dawg in the ACC any more, and I think Saturday was just a taste of some of the payback we have in store for the ACC.

Do you mind me asking how much tickets are going for? The ones that outbid you? Not what you were bidding. But the winning bid.

Thanks.

It is up to $650 and still going. In general I've seen them from $500-$100 depending on the seat.

Oh and all prices are for a pair... One auction was around $1400 for 4...

You have to go to a game CM! Dook tickets aside, there are tons of bids like this one:

My first UNC-Dook experience was something else. As a freshman at Carolina my friends and I were 18th row behind the bench for a memorable thrashing of Wojo and company.

And for the notion that Duke is a solid team this year we will have to see. They have major issues.

1) No depth, for heavens sake they are starting Melchioni........this guy wouldn't have seen the floor five years ago.

2) Point Guard, Felton, Jack, Paul are the best PG's in the league......notice they are on the three best teams.

3) Draft....There have been quite a few early entries to the draft and it has taken its toll on Duke. This year they lost Deng after one year, a high schooler and look......they have no depth.

Now for a rant

Ewing is solid, Redick is good when open even though his back acne is overpowering.....notice the tee-shirt....his back has more oil then Kuwait's countryside, Sheldon Williams has an extra chromosone.....come on there is no doubt...Shavlik makes Kwame look tough....and K is aging faster than W.

It's a good time to be a Heel!!
