What more does a guy have to do to get some respect? Not even a probowl sniff.
Whats even more shocking is this is Champs first all pro team!!!! This year of all years, does anyone watch his games?

I heard Wilbon say something to the affect of "I've caught a few of the Denver games this year and he stinks."

Shawn Springs is the only cornerback in the history of the NFL to lead his team in both sacks and interceptions in the same year. That is one reason I named him my runner-up for Defensive Player of the Year.

All I know is S.Springs shut down T.O best WR in NFL 2 game this year. I dont think any CB did that this year.I personally think S.Springs is best CB in NFL

I never understood people's fascination with Ronde Barber. He sits in zones while a great front seven go after the QB. I noticed that as well Spence. People don't really pay attention to how well people play when they vote these things.

I wonder if Smoot thinks he still deserves top 5 CB money, when he is clearly seen as top 15 by his peers.

Thats a great point and it was done on a defense that finished #3 in the enitre league!!! How do they miss that? :banghead: No freaking respect.

springs showed me more in one season here than bailey did in his entire tenure, who cares about all these awards, I just wish we had won more.

I agree with this. I dont see how he can want top 5 when he is clearly not. He is a good CB but not the best. Especially since he is asking for more than what Springs got, but didnt do better than Springs this year.

Little by little Smoot will have to come back down to earth or his first foray into free agency will not be a pleasant one.

I also wonder how these guys can live with themselves knowing about the Cap and all, where does he think the money will come from? He knows someone will have to go because he won't take what's been offered. Ego is winning here...

I feel guilty not giving Champ a fair shake ... I guess I should note that Springs didn't even come close to Champs FPT record which was tops on the team last year ... and maybe a league record I just never checked ... yup ... Champ is still the King of FPT ... fumbles per touch
Springs on the other hand catches better than Gardner

My biggest question is: How can we have the #3 defense in the NFL (#1 in the NFC) not have have anyone on the All Pro first or second team. It just doesn't make any sense to me.

This clearly indicates that people do not pay attention like they should. Springs had a lot better season than Bailey. Heck better than Lito for that matter.

Bloody well right there. Springs is the "new" type of corner. He fits the mold of the Walter Payton at RB, Jim Brown, LT at LB, Elway at QB.
He is the prototype because he moves like a LB(with authority), strikes like a safety, hits like a lineman, defends the pass as a top 5 corner. Moreover, is likely to set a sick number for SACKS by a DB!
What aids this even more come 2005, is when we have Taylor, Bowen and Clark in 3 safety setups, it is more likely to be a blitz by a corner and the extra safety picks up the CB's man.
Springs IMO will get at least 11 sacks in 2005 (unheard of, but he may get even more!). Remember he was out a couple of times and still was on a 11 sack pace in 2004.

One of the bad reasons for the misjudgement on Shawn Springs is that Gregg Williams works wonders with no names.
Shawn Springs should have competed against Drew Brees also for Comeback Player of the Year, because Brees was on the bench, Springs was injured and considered washed up.
Is is why Arena Football is so popular and has its own following. We know half at least, still watch NFL, but a large portion DON'T. Why?
Because of judgements like these. Political posturing by writers and disingenious support by spinners on networks for ratings in high pop areas (yes that part of the NFL does exist where ratings are flat out controled by lard asses who are sweating profusely to keep their jobs). Pro Bowl selections are always going to have 30% bs. That's the way of the world.

Two things....
The Pats are a fine example of a no name defense. Besides Law and Seymour I do really know there guys. The point is they are a team and they play for the collective.
The Skins are remarkably similar. to the rest of the league they are no names but when we break out on everyone like a virus next year that will change.
The bottom line is when these guys look for people they give these awards too they start with winning teams.
All of those sportswriters know how good the skins defense is, but only when we experience more winning will they take notice of our indivuals.
