the ref we hired to call instant replays for missed calls. This guy was probably responsible for at least a couple of games we lost namely the 1st Giants game and the 1st Cowboys game and in a few other situations. What the hell was he looking at half the time I don't know.
Another thing Danny boy must do is findout why the hell the zebras hate us so much. I mean I heard of miss calls or bad calls but this year was rediculous. the league has got to address this crap.

I agree 110% with you on the replay guy, he didnt know anything!!! The refs did not like the Skins at all, ex. Green Bay Call that took back that portis TD.

Certainly we need to improve in the area, but I trust Gibbs if he wants to keep the guy.
Did we win a challenge all season?

Well now, wait a minute...there were MANY calls that the officials flat out got wrong...I can't count the number of times that even the announcers said we got robbed. They will have to look at this during the offseason, but even Gibbs, who never says anything bad about anybody, had had it with the officials by the end of the season.

i saw where the replay official got calls wrong with something to the effect the reciever had both feet in bounds but he didn't or the ball popped loose after his knee hit the ground but the ball popped loose before. now one challenge that sticks out in my mind that the actual officials got wrong was the first eagles game when pinkston clearly stepped out of bounds before the first down marker but was ruled to make the first down. overall i think the guy pretty much was a waste of money. the officiating was horrible all around this year, in the booth and on the field. you just can't trust a zebra

Yea I remember that play, and just after that the Igglets blew the game wide open. I will never also forget the PI call against us in the second game with the Igglets when Springs is the one that gets interfered with as TO has his hand on his chest pushing before the ball gets there. Springs has said that that official has called him to say he was wrong...Then the 1st Cowboy game, the PI on us and the non called PI for us. 14 point swing. You guys realize that if we got those calls in those two games we would have won and we would be in the playoffs right now. I will not even mention the bvllsh!t motion call with GB when Portis scored. Yes we were 3 plays away from being 9-7 and in the playoffs. The the bitch about it is it wasn't our fault but the zebras.

if i recall spurrier sort of started this sort of thing. When he starting coaching the skins they developed a penchant for dumb penalties which they clearly have not lost. At some point he hired professional refs to work practices. it didn't work. gibbs did the same thing and then upped spurrier one by getting an official at the game. it clearly isn't having the desired effect, i almost wonder<conspiracy theory>if the existing refs are pissed cause their fellows left the league and are now making better money in the "private ref industry" and they are therefore picking on the skins.</conspiracy theory> Although this theory doesn't really hold cause the o-line penalties are clear cut.

We took some on the chin this year big time (challenges, big calls/no calls)
My favorite call is still last year when the d was penalized for "barking calls". I hadnt seen that one before. The Green Bay mystery call is a close second. Damn refs.....

Sorry, AGG, but that ain't even close to true. The guy was just flat-out bad at times.

Sorry to you little one, but it is true, because I stopped counting at 5 calls that we challenged that we should have won but we didn't...like I said before, when Gibbs and the announcers are all saying we got robbed, then this is the fault of the officials not the the guy in the booth.
Now I'm only referring to challenges, I don't know what his other responsibilities may be.
Here's an example from the Green bay game:

This is what Troy said and I agree with him. "My argument -- one of them, at least -- is that if they can review that play during the week, then they should be able to do it during the game. A long pass interference call is the most prohibitive penalty in football. It completely changes the outcome of games, yet it is not a reviewable play."
In that perticular game not only this was a TD for Dallas but later on a sure PI call should have been made on the Cowgirls when Gardner was tackled with the ball still 10 feet up in the air in the endzone. At the very least a 3 point play even if you assume the Redskins don't get it in from 1st and goal from the 1 yard line. My point is this game and GB game if won we would be in the playoffs today playing GB. Talk about two terrible calls that changed our entire season. The league has to do something about this. I know reviewing every call is not possible because the games would be 6 hours long but having a "strike" system where officials making bad calls or not calls are grated and tossed out if repeat mistakes are made during the season.

AGG, neither of those were challengable calls. The calls we got robbed on this year were, for the most part, unchallengable. Pass interference and that illegial motion penalty against the Packers. They have nothing to do with our guy in the booth.

I know, but I thought enough examples had been giving, I was just showing that the officating was horrible this year and what could our guy do? I was backing up that first statement that you said wasn't true...
Anyway, no big deal to me one way or the other... I don't even know the guy! :Peace:

Do you think that because we had a retired Ref in our booth, that maybe that is why the Refs were so hard on the Redskins this year?

Is everyone sitting down?
I actually think the refs do a good job overall and that is why the couple egregious calls really stick out. Although I admit the officiating was questionable in our games, when I watch other games it seems fairly solid.

I think that it is 100% manditory that teams are allowed to challange a pass interference penalty. It is really unfair for corners in this league right now with the new 5 yrd contact rule, plus this year the refs seemed less reluctant to throw the flag on it. It is very apparent that the refs are calling it in favor of the reciever whenever it is questionable. So why not let defenses challange it? It really wouldn't delay a game that much beacuse there are usually only a few instances of really bad calls, plus that same challange rule would apply. 2 right, you get a third and if your wrong your charged a timeout. I do agree with Aikman in that article though were if you get 3 right why stop there?

Very interesting question. We have no idea what might be going on behind the scenes. Maybe the league doesnt like it, or the refs dont like it, or it's at least in the backs of their minds? who knows. You know your team is getting the shaft when refs start calling players to apologize (Springs - and that guy was right there, the play happened right in front of him) and the league starts sending apologies to the coach. next year i just hope the games are not close enough for a few bad calls to kill us.
