NC State has hit the skids! I know Miami beat Florida, but I had the Pack finishing in the upper half of the ACC. They have some issues.

Not that there's anything wrong with that!:D

Nope kansas pulled it out on the road. Speaking of duke... have they played a road game this season? I thought they were going ot be a top 5 team, but then they go out and have a hard time with clemson and temple.

That was a stunning upset. The Hokies will not be taken lightly from here on out. I would have never picked them to win in Ga Tech. Big Win.

Now now...you shouldn't come in here thumping your chest. ;)

I remember you yourself was talking like VT wouldn't be competitive.

And like GR! said, teams will not be taking VT as softly as they have been. I wasn't too surprised that you guys beat nc state. But this win at GT will gain some attention.

Well my Jayhawks sucked it up today. Don't ask me what happened...I guess they got excited seeing snow or something.

In other news, Tech Basketball DOESN'T SUCK for once, meaning my rooting for the Jayhawks finally takes a backseat to good old VT.
I love it how we are in the upper half of the ACC while UVA is fumbling along at the cellar.

Haha, its always nice to be called out. I will admit I was resigned to an ACC season where we would have on major upset and maybe another win or two. So far I have been pleasantly surprised, and I really do believe that Seth Greenberg will be the coach who leads this team to respectability at the very least.

Yea, I expected that we would get crushed by UNC, Duke, and Wake Forest. Of course GT and Maryland were two other teams who I thought would run up the score by 30 points, but I was wrong about one :p.

Uh yeah, this proves how utterly weak they really are. A couple of doormat big east teams are dominating your conference now. Makes me think that if we picked up Duke and NC it would weaken our conference, man duke and nc would probably finish last in the big east. BTW Big East 5 ACC 1 this year.

With Wake, Duke and now Syracuse falling, It should shake things up a bit in polls this week. UNC takes two and UK could take 3, but I think BC may grab it as they are undefeated. I personally think UK is the beneficiary of a high pre-season ranking. I think we're the third best in the country, but I'll be thankful for the jump up anyway.

gosh I hate Duke so much. The refs babied them teh whole first half against tech, 20 team fouls?!? give me an effing break. :inkston: oh no we don't want our boys to lose their 2nd consecutive game, let alone two AT HOME.

second half, however, we just got straight balled up. no questions asked.

only good thing was that seth greenberg showed some intensity that I like to see in a coach, and that reddick missed 3 free throws :). tech might be able to upset them at home towards the end of the year, b/c i have a feeling the tech refs won't forget the way the dookies abused their home court.

by the way, why does shelton williams look like a dinosaur? he's a beast, but gosh his face frightens away young children.

Yea, its kind of hard to play against duke when all your starters have 2 fouls with 5 minutes elapsed in the first half. We probably would have lost by more than 20 points either way, there was no need for the douchebaggery. Duke vs. our scrubs is a bit of an unfair matchup.

Not that Maryland shouldn't have won, but Clemson played better than they have all year/they weren't that bad in the first place, just not up to par with the other ACC teams/Maryland played almost as far away from College Park as you could get in the ACC on a single day rest. No other ACC team has had to do that all year.

We'll find out a lot about Maryland when they play @ Miami on Saturday.

CarMike
02-02-2005, 03:49 PM
With all due respect, you're reaching.

And Virginia had to play VT on thrusday and turn right around and play UNC on Saturday.

Its not like these guys don't get rest on their trips anyways.....

Maryland didn't play a good game...

Gump84
02-02-2005, 05:04 PM
I never claimed Maryland played a good game.

Home Sunday at 5:30 then @ Clemson Tuesday at 7pm doesn't compare to @ VT on Thurday then home against UNC on Saturday.

Clemson lost @ Duke by 8, @ VT by 2, @ UNC by 19, @ UVA by 2, @ Miami by 4, and against NC State by 10.

Maryland should have won that game, no doubt about it, but no one gives Clemson any respect. They don't deserve much, but they do deserve more than they are getting. You have to remember, they are a 11-10 team, even with their 2-7 ACC record.

Maryland Beats Duke in OT, 99-92

Terps take down Blue Devils for season sweep.

Feb. 12, 2005

By DAVID GINSBURG
AP Sports Writer

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Another classic duel between Duke and Maryland ended with an increasingly familiar result.

Travis Garrison had 17 points and 11 rebounds, and the Terrapins wore down No. 7 Duke in overtime for a 99-92 victory Saturday night.

John Gilchrist scored 19 points, Chris McCray had 17 and reserve guard Mike Jones added 15 for Maryland (15-7, 6-5 Atlantic Coast Conference), which completed its first regular-season sweep of the Blue Devils since 1995.

Including their win in the finals of the ACC tournament last March, the Terps have won three straight against Duke for the first time since 1982.

The Blue Devils (18-3, 8-3) staggered to the finish without five players, all of whom fouled out late in regulation or in overtime. Shelden Williams had 23 points and 16 rebounds, and Daniel Ewing also scored 23. But both were gone long before the finish.

With Maryland up 91-90 in overtime, Garrison scored on a follow and McCray made two foul shots for a five-point cushion, and the Blue Devils simply didn't have enough firepower to mount a comeback.

At the final buzzer, the crowd poured onto the court to celebrate another Maryland victory in one of college basketball's fiercest rivalries.

J.J. Redick scored 21 for Duke, which fell a game behind first-place Wake Forest in the ACC.

Duke led 86-82 with 1:34 left in regulation, but three-point plays by Gilchrist and Ekene Ibekwe put the Terrapins ahead 88-86 with 39 seconds left. Williams fouled out on the latter play, leaving the Blue Devils lacking in the middle.

DeMarcus Nelson scored on a drive to tie it with 34 seconds left, and Gilchrist and teammate Nik Caner-Medley misfired before the final buzzer.

Held to eight points before halftime, Redick sank his first 3-pointer with 10 seconds elapsed in the second half. The junior guard then put the Blue Devils in front 52-50 with another shot from beyond the arc with 18:08 left - Duke's first lead since 27-26.

Minutes later, Williams scored on a tip and followed a Maryland turnover with a three-point play to make it 59-55. Another 3-pointer by Redick put Duke up by five, and after Maryland pulled even, Williams made a layup and Lee Melchionni hit a 3-pointer to spark an 11-2 run.

Jones then scored the game's next eight points to make it 73-73 with 8:26 left.

Maryland committed only one turnover in the first half, outrebounded Duke 24-18 and got 16 points from Gilchrist in taking a 48-43 halftime lead.

The sellout crowd of 17,950 arrived hours before tipoff, and the atmosphere in the arena at tipoff was electrifying. Those in attendance included former Boston Celtics coach Red Auerbach, Baltimore Ravens coach Brian Billick and former Orioles infielder Cal Ripken.

The noise level jumped another notch when Caner-Medley scored off the opening tip and Gilchrist hit a short jumper. After Duke closed to 11-9, Gilchrist made a layup and 3-pointer to up the margin to seven.

Redick didn't get his first basket until nearly eight minutes were elapsed. Ewing kept the Blue Devils close by scoring 11 of their first 16 points, and he gave Duke its first lead with a 3-pointer that made it 24-22.

But Maryland used a 9-0 spurt to go ahead 33-27, and the Terrapins stayed in front until Redick and Williams got going early in the second half.
------------------------------------------

What a great game, and a great WIN by the Terps.

Gichrist was on fire last night, but what was up with Caner-Medley with all those lame shots he was taking????

It was also nice to see the Refs NOT favour dook in that game. Coach K was giving the Refs an ear full, but guess what Coach K, you couldn't pay off the Refs last night, so your team had to play straight-up with the Terps, and you got beat.

I loved it that 4 of there 5 starters fouled out.

Has that EVER happened AT Duke????

All I know is that this was 3 in a row for the Terps, and...........

Dook is Maryland's BIT*H!!!!!!!

FEAR THE TURTLE

I've started noticing more and more that Caner-Medley has a way of worrying too much about the officials and trying to draw fouls rather then just playing his style. He usually is decent out the start of the game (Like last night) but after teams start zeroing in on him and start playing him physical he gets into a new mentality of trying to draw fouls or make a highlight play.
