View Full Version : Farm Team selections

High gains can sometimes be found in farm teams. Exclusive rights have some players locked into a MLB team, should they up their stock.
It will be interesting to see if cross-league signings can take place with the Nationals team. For instance:
Indianapolis Indians at one point were a farm team for Cincinatti and had won a couple of Championships here, been to the playoffs a few times, yet the fan base can be very weak at times. Those better players were plucked off the roster, just before Cincinatti cut them loose.
Still other farm teams have players left behind that just weren't given a fair chance thanks to an aging 50-50 player that was a crowd favorite. Maybe we could pluck a couple of players away from those teams?

The Nats will undoubtedly need to be creative because high end prospects are at the time too expensive for the organization and the depth of talent in the system is the worst in baseball. Nats affiliates had the worst combined record in baseball last season.
Bowden says it could take 3-6 years to turn it around.

Yeah, I read that and I am glad they resigned OKHA today. He's recovered from his injury and supposedly has his form back according to management!
Good pitching keeps it closer. The first year is an evaluation, teaching year, with some players definitely using it for a springboard. I think OHKA 's one year deal is showing that. If he does really well, he'll be wooed into leaving, but if the team has promise and is young, he may stay, knowing he'd be a big pimp daddy on the scene _ meaning more lucrative deals in D. C. down the road.

Man would it be nice if the Nats got a farm team close enough to go see.
Where are their farm teams now?

I would defiinitely like them to steal a player from Hagerstown too (Orioles).

My Oops.
Not "Hagerstown" , but it's Fredrick for their single A ball.
They're best is in Ottowa, Canada, but there is this Rule 5 that exists, that something like a draft, but something like gathering in left over FA's too. Here's a link at MLB.COM
http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/news/mlb_news.jsp?ymd=20041206&content_id=918809&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp
Check out the top 50 players to get a glimpse of how the players are graded from single A to Triple A ball.
Here's some favorites of mine:
Prince Fielder, 1B, Brewers (179)
2004 stats: .267 BA/ .361 OBP/ .468 SLG
ETA in Majors: 2005 Previous Rank: 13
It's been an up-and-down year for Fielder as a young regular in Double-A, but he's still got 22 homers and somehow has picked up 10 steals
Alberto Callaspo, SS, Angels (23)
2004 stats: .288 BA/ .341 OBP/ .383 SLG
ETA in Majors: 2007 Previous Rank: N/A
The 21-year-old skipped over High-A ball and finished Double-A with a flourish, hitting .327 in August. A competition with Aybar in the future will be fun to watch.
Franklin Gutierrez, OF, Indians (40)2004 stats: .309 BA/ .377 OBP/ .478 SLG
ETA in Majors: 2005 Previous Rank: 35
Earned a promotion to Triple-A. Spent a week there, got sent back, spent the rest of the season on the DL with an elbow problem.

Yeah, Hagerstown is actually a Mets team...I go to a few of their games every year since I live so close.

Yeah, I used to hang out in town and Waynesboro, when I was at Ft. Ritchie.
Loved those nights out at the clubs on each side of the road in the motels, then the after parties.
I also didn't look at the updates in the MLB.com site for the Nationals farm team and #5 signings. If I had done that I could have answered that question. Oh well better late than never. Now I know how to keep up with you guys.

Ok that did it, love wings, and we obviously don't get much crabmeat from MD's eastern shore, except at Mitchells Fish Market/Restaurant in Carmel,IN.
So that sounds like the perfect spot for me to go to en route to RFK, before a double header or evening game. Can you feel it!!!!!! Summer's in DC! Awesome, because my wife and I can go to so many other places locally to hang out!
Thanks Patrick, putting a notch on our travel plans for games!

Here's a few links.
One of the Sand Gnats (Nationals) site: (Mascot is cool,at least he gets to wear sunglasses :) )

Here's the Hagerstown, MD team for the Mets,

figured this would be good for info to all, should anyone make a trip and they could maybe even hook up with you by chance. I will keep all posted when I do go. The drive is better for me, and if its' only a farm game, then its about 6-7 hours. I could then stop down in D.C. and stay with family before heading back out the next day.
Here's a look at Hagerstown Suns field from behind the plate:

Here's a foul line shot on "game day"

You just leave my Frederick Keys alone. :kidding:
I use to be an O's fan years ago, but after that dumba** Greek that owns them eff'ed up that team, I stopped following them.
I will checkout some Nats games this year, but I now truely enjoy going to Keys games.
I can walk up to the box office on gameday, but an $8 ticket, and sit behind homeplate. I can also buy a 22oz beer for $2.75, and a hotdog for $1.50.
You can't do that in the Majors.

Food prices are sweeet!
Hey, that's the INSIDE STUFF :lol1:
That's how I'll be should I get a chance to stop by. I am looking at my and my wife's schedule and I am going solo sometime between early Apr and early May, and hopefully check out both or at least the Nats. It's fun when you have the time to stop and check one game, head to D. C., hang out, and then see the finished product at RFK!

I've been to a couple Keys games, I can't root for an Orioles affiliate though. I do go to Harry Grove when the WWE is there though.

Well, they still play the O's (National's affiliate) right? So I am not rootin' for the O's.
