I know i'm not the only graduate of the Greatest School in the Country that is represented by the Greatest Basketball Program in the Country which is coached by the Greatest College Basketball Coach of All-Time on this board. So, Blue Devils-WHO LOVES YA BABY??
Some people in this forum need to go back to whatever school is was that they learned college basketball from. Because there is only one true University of College Basketball, and that is the mighty Blue Devils.
Day in, day out.
Right now i'm wearing my custom made UNC-where the C stands for 'CLOSET DUKE FANS' t-shirts. I just wish Carolina fans would stop being so jealous of us. We can't help it that we're winners on and off the court, and don't forget you HEELS. Right now, your girlfriend is cheating on you with a Duke boy... :D
BTW-UNC fans on this board, i love you all-(just not in this forum)...

jero, you have me laughing pretty hard. Why?

Mike, i could care less how they play in the pros-that's not what i'm looking at. What matters to me is that they represent while they have those beautiful blue n white jerseys on. If they play well in the Nibba, that's an added bonus. Duke playmakers are taught team ball, not individual, so that's the role they play on Nibba teams-they're not concerned with padding their stats-just helping whatever team they're playing for win.

I have nothing to do with UNC, but your proclaimed "Greatest Program" falls behind to at least Kentucky. 7 titles. The Winningest Program. K is beat by Adoph Rupp as a better coach and possibly even Pitino's stint (1996 Championship team outscored opponents in the Tourney by about 25 points/game and produced at least 8 players who play(ed) in the NBA), followed that year with a trip to the finals and set the table for Tubby's run in 1998. And finally, who else has Ashley Judd come to their home games.
I'm not stacking us against UNC or the other teams (even though we do well in any stituation which involves long term greatness), but I think we have dook covered. You can Laettner me to death, but I think we got ya. There you have it. Not from a UNC fan. Duke sucks. ;)

SkinsKY-Yes, Adolph Rupp is a legend, but Pitino is no Coach K (c'mon!)
I would never dump on KY because my father went there and i have alot of respect for that program. But for people to say "Duke SUCKS" is more than a little ridiculous. I really think certain Duke haters need to look at the Duke record, and where we stand in the COACHES Poll year in and year out, including this year. You can say "i don't care for Duke", but don't say "Duke Sucks", just as i would never say "Carolina Sucks" or "Wildcats Suck". There's just no truth in those statements. We are a pretty darn good basketball team.

Duke has had an excellent program for a whille, and I don't think they suck, but the attitude with which the players carry themselves, the way they always seem to get the calls, the way the polls seem to undeservedly love them is sickening. I think that program gets far overhyped and so people just begin to despise them. Not for their "greatness" (as Coach K once said I believe), but because they have the audacity to make statements like that one.

dook sucks and it will exposed as soon as they have to go into a hostile enviroment and play a good team. There is no way they are a top 10 team this year.
The best thing to happen to dook was Dean retiring. Dean owned kay. All dookies know this to be true.
But, thats alright. Keep on padding those stats kay.
jero, I think its funny how you say that it doesn't matter how ex-dookies play in the next level. I thought thats what college was about? Getting kids ready for the next level.

It is partly what college is about, but i don't think that just because Duke hasn't churned out any MJ like superstars reflects poorly on the Duke program as a whole. Most Duke teams are made up of role players who work together, and therefore go on to become role players in the Nibba.

Yeah, I agree. Hurley was close to death, and at one time Williams' doctors considered amputeeing at least one of his legs.

Your posting barely deserves a sentence from me, and the fact that someone would joke about the misfortune of others when it comes to their physical health is pretty tasteless in my book. All three of those players you mentioned are not only good people, but they also came very, very close to losing their lives, and have battled back from it. Jay Williams might not be able to play basketball anymore, Bobby Hurley's career was cut short by what happened to him, and Grant Hill's almost was too, except for the fact that he had the strength to battle back from what happened to him. I don't think it's anything to laugh at. I may rag against Carolina for fun, but one thing i can promise is that you'll never see me stoop to that level.

Sorry, if you lived in carolina, or have some other connection than ok, but most duke fans i know have absolutely no connection to duke.
My main problem with duke is how they are on a mission to ruin college basketball. They have so many soft players. The usual build up of a duke team is a 2-gaurd who spends the whole game outside the 3point line (langdon and reddick). A point guard who can penetrate, but mostly just shoots 3's (jaywill, duhon, ewing). An athletic small forward that has my respect (maggette, jones, and deng.). A soft power forward (battier, dunleavy, and shavlick.) A tough center that has lots of respect from me (brand, williams.)
I remember a game a few years ago vs fsu where duke lost and shot 6 for 46 from 3. People ask why so few duke players succeed in the nba, and if you look at it the only players that do succeed are the 3's and 5's. With a little luck, reddick will be the next jon barry, and randoplh will be slightly less effective than christain laettner.
RedskinsDave
01-16-2005, 01:46 PM
How in God's name are they "on a mission to ruin college basketball"? If they are as soft as you think than they are helping other teams by giving them a chance to win.
As far as why I'm a fan, it's actually my connection to D.C., not Carolina. I followed high school basketball around here in the 80's and watched as Johnny Dawkins (Mackin), Danny Ferry (Dematha) and Tommy Amaker (WTWoodson) all went to Duke. Then guys my age, Crawford Plamer (W-L) and Grant Hill (South Lakes) went there too. That and Coach K's reputation for recuiting solid guys made it easy for me to cheer for them.

The 3-point shot is killing good basketball. They have to move the line back at least 18 inches because teams are too perimeter oriented.
Glad you have a reason, unlike all the other duke fans i know.

What does where you live have to do with who you are a fan of? How many of us really have a connection with the Redskins, other than the fact we grew up living, loving and breathing Redskins football. This is what is so great about college basketball. A loss or two will not kill your season, unlike football. If it did UNC would have been done after losing the first game. Tourney time is when we see the best sports other than the NFL playoffs but it is still close. I like college bball better than college football
Sorry, if you lived in carolina, or have some other connection than ok, but most duke fans i know have absolutely no connection to duke. .
I am a Duke graduate but even that shouldn't matter. Your logic makes no sense. What difference does it make whether you 'live in Carolina or have some connection to Duke' or not? Can't you just root for a team because you like them? You like their players, their coach, their style of basketball?

My main problem with it is that I have little tolerance for fans who like teams out of area, or without connections. Growing up at this point in time in this city kills me at times. I'm a fan of everything and anything local, but many people i know root for teams like the eagles, falcons, red sox, blue devils, or anything winning. None of them would stick with their team through tough times.
Obviosuly everyone on this site is a real fan because if they weren't they would be long gone by now. Its the people who aren't real fans that really piss me off.
Nice to see redick took 10 3 pointers tonight. The most one-dimensional player in the top 100 teams in the country. He can't pass, drive, create his own shot, rebound, or play much defense.

Now that’s quite a bold statement there. Despite the fact of me being a real fan or not, its saying as though a person like myself shouldn't be a redskins fan just based on the fact that I don't LIVE in DC. Sorry babe, but some people don't have the blessing of living in the city or general area of the team that they will grow up to love. I enjoyed watching the 49ers play, well I did when they had Joe Montana on the team, and I was a fan. But because I don't live on the west coast, I shouldn't have? My Uncle always loved Duke Basketball, so I would watch it with him, and when March Madness comes around I always root for Duke, but I shouldn't because I'm not from the area? So far every team that the eagles have faced (minus the cowboys) I’ve rooted for. So what? I'm sorry babe but you not "tolerating" people being fans of teams, it’s ludicrous! If somebody wants to go and cheer for a winning team, let them, if they don’t want to stick by their team, that’s their choice. I understand if you get a little p.o.ed by it, but its still a persons right to cheer for whoever they damn well please.

I'll root for the locals, and against duke as i can't stand the players, the style of basketball they play, or the fact that they are america's team. I don't like how the media gushes over them, despite the fact that they have only played 1 true road game this season, and have choked like dogs on many occasions during the last 3 or 4 years. And i don't like the fact that duke football is so popular.

Are you aware that redick took 258 3's last year. And that 6-2 point guard named gilchirst is averaging twice as many rebounds and assist per game as him. And last year he took twice as many 3's as anyone on maryland's roster.

Great Suppity, if Gilchrist is twice the player that Reddick is Maryland should have no problem beating Duke. Get over them. So they take a ton of threes. How does that effect any other program? It doesn't. They live and die by the three. That is their choice. It sure beats living and dying by low graduation rates.
