Just when things start to get good we have to take a hit like this. How do u think we will fare without him?

Hughes out (http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap.php)

if we can manage .500 without him that would be good...its a terrible loss for us...will juan be starting now? hes been playing great lately and hopefully he can continue with that success and we wont notice the loss of hughes as much...all in all this injury is not good

Right in the meat of our schedule. This really is crushing.

This means that everyone on the team has to step it up a notch now...we can't afford to take a freefall in the standings...like straightupbeast said hopefully we can maintain .500 ball till he gets back...but this injury is devasting to the team

exactly what i was about to do. This is shocking! Just when we start to do REALLY well, something like this happens. Hopefully Dixon or Hayes can step in a play well. If Dixon starts, then he has to show everyone why he was the ACC player of the year a few years ago. If Hayes starts, he has to show why he was drafted 11th overall (I think) last season. Someone has to step up and fill the gap. I think we will probably go about .500 during the 4-6 week stretch. I think Gilbert will really step in and score like 30-35 points a night. He had like 28+ PPG in March last season when Hughes was out.

if we go 500 in the 4-6, thats horrible. we are 22-13 rite now, so if we lose that many games, that will be disappointing, with hughes or without hughes. im interested to see dix step up. he wanted minutes, well now hes gonna get them

Dixon will start playing well after the first week or two, but we will lose until then. We'll get the easy wins that we should get, but not the questionable ones.

this isnt fair! just when this team was kicking it into high gear. i think if jamison wasnt on the team, then i would say we will struggle, but having a second reliable scorer besides arenas helps. hayes has been in a sophmore slump he needs to get out of and dixon needs to step up as well. this really sucks.....GET WELL SOON LARRY.

I feared the worst when I posted the article last night about his thumb injury and now it's a reality. Our bench lacked scoring punch besides Dixon and Hayes and now one of them have to start which will deplete our depth. I hope Peeler can come back healthy and start contributing.. Profit will get more playing time. Blake would've helped but he's out as well. This will hurt.. but we have leaders in Jamison, Thomas and Arenas who'll step up and the reserve guys will need to take it up a notch. Get Well Soon Larry!

What a BLOW!!! This is really gonna test the Wiz...Juan has to step in and he'll be backed up by Peeler (sore achilles) and Laron Profit.

The pressure is on Juan to hold down the fort. In no way do I expect him to fill Larry's shoes at the 2 guard, especially not defensively. He will be overmatched some nights and might have to give up some PT to Profit who is a better matchup against the big guards.

This is a HUGE blow. Hughes was having a career year! Like was mentioned earlier, if we can stay around .500 til he gets back we'll be alright.

There's a dark cloud over DC tonight...

I don't even think Dixon is gonna play at the 2. He will play 1 and Gil will move to 2. Thats where Gil started out when he came into the league.

this reminds me of that stretch we had with MJ....I think it was his first year playing??? but the team was rolling and rip hamilton got hurt in a game at orlando, crushed our season and we missed the playoffs. I remember it so well, rip hurting his leg in orlando and we were doing sooo well, once rip got hurt we started going downhill.

I trust Gil with the ball more than Dixon, but I don't think Gil will hesitate to take it to the hole

Everyone, put a pic of Larry Hughes in sig and say get well soon. Sorta like the ugly player thing, but this one is serious.

This really does suck!

Juan Dixon may not be at Larry's level, but I still think he can contribute alot. Its gonna be tough without Larry, but we just gotta hang in there, and everyone else just needs to step it up a bit. Get well soon Larry!

gosh man this always happens. These injuries that happen to the
Wiz aren't ones that can heal up and be done with. Hughes' is an example
of one, Thomas' ab strain is another, last year Gilberts ab strain, Blakes ankle. I knew that this 7-game win streak was too good to be true.

This also sux because we couldve seen 3 Wizards in the All-star game, now only 2 with Jamison and Gilbert.

or maybe less than that if they stop winning

I have a feeling Juan will step it up. He won't get the steals that Larry can, but he'll up his game to starter level as long as he is starting. I have a feeling about it.

This is a tough part of the schedule, too, but hopefully we can beat a few of them.

Get well soon Larry!

Oh man, that's terrible, terrible news.

Juan can help, but he won't play at Larry's level. What the Wiz need now is some inside help. Haywood and, horrifically, Kwame need to start to step up in a big way. Etan Thomas, too.

Jimreaper007
01-17-2005, 05:33 AM
yeah this hurts the wizards...but me being the eternal optimist I can see a couple of good things coming out of this.

1. If he is healthy this gives Kwame/Etan/Haywood more shots to establish some type of low post presence the wizards desparately need. Jacking up 1000 shots per game from the guards will not win in the playoffs.

2. This gives Steve Blake and Juan Dixon more opportunity to shine and become better players

3. I said in an earlier post that the Wizards will get better once they face some real adversity and this 4-6 week stint without superman-hughes.

The Wiz started this season off with like 8 players and still won games so they can do well if they just keep their heads up and not sulk.

Eddie Jordan does not get enough props for the brilliant job he's done.

i was waiting for something like this. its crazy cuz i thought that larry legitimitly had a shot at the all star game, because any dummy who watches the league would know that larry is having an all star season. i think dix will be at the 1 and arenas will be at the 2, but arenas will control it more. we will kind of have a 2 point guard set

If Eddie is smart and we know he is...that goes on a bulletin board. Someone will step up...Hopefully Jarvis Hayes the most.

I think the Wizards will use it as fuel. The Old Wizards would fold up like a cheap tent. The new Wizards beat good teams with half their roster.

GO WIZARDS!!!!!!!!!!

RedskinsVision

well they're playing the Spurs tonight and the score in the 4th is.... 86-60 Spurs dominating. it was going to be real hard to beat SA on their court even with Hughes, but w/ out him it's been too easy for SA to guard Jamison (6pts, 2-8 shooting) and Arenas (3pts, 0-11 shooting).

it's going to be tough against good defensive teams. like others have said, i HOPE we go .500 w/ Hughes out.

man this is ugly

we make Popeye Jones look good.

we knew this injury was going to be crucial and that it will determine our resolve.. we'll see where they go from here.

i think the Spurs are 19-1 at home.. that's why i wasn't expecting us to win.. but i didn't expect us to be blown off the court after the 1st quarter either.

dixon is freakin' killing us....he cannot start as a two guard in this league, he is smaller than most point guards (hell we got two points on the team that are bigger than him) in the league...we do not have a snowballs chance in hell of winning 25% of the games that mini-me juan starts... without question....

it is ok to have him coming off the bench as an energy guy...when he starts we are undersized and have significant match-up problems at three positions (shooting guard and both foward positions) in the starting line-up....sure dixon can come up with a steal now and then, and will hit the open jumper with consistence...but he cannot create his own shot, there is no a shooting guard in the league that doesn't get a clean look at the basket when dixon is pressing them and he is turning the ball over at a near record pace....he cannot score enough to balance out these defensive liabilities

the only change that we stand is coach realizes the error of his ways puts dixon back on the bench were he belongs and offers hayes a shot at the job or even laron profit, bump jefferies to the bench and insert thomas at the forward position....

EDDIE...juan can do it off the bench, but that is it...he will never be a starter (AT LEAST NOT A LEGITIMATE ONE)

Why is Hayes not playing at the 2-guard position?
hes more of a swingman. i think small forward is a good position for him, but i know what u mean. geez, i was reading the washington post, and there were so many quotes of teammates and eddie jordan saying that we really miss hughes. we all miss him, but i hope we dont use this as an excuse whenever we lose

I actually have a feeling we're gonna lose this game... It's pretty sad. I'm not saying we completely suck without Larry, but we still need time to get used to him being gone.
