NORTHAMPTON, PA-This was just eighteen days ago, before any premature fears could be realized. Brian Schneider, local hero and player representative for the soon-to-be Washington Nationals, was caught in the moment.
"I can’t wait for off days," he beamed, while signing autographs at the Lehigh Valley Yankee Fan Club’s BaseballFest. Talk about looking ahead. Imagine thinking of off days nearly four months before the regular season is set to begin. "It’s going to be easier for people to see our games, whether we’re in Washington or Philadelphia. Now, we can get together all the time."
Schneider can be excused for his anxiety. He had just spent the last five seasons with the Montreal Expos, which is the equivalent of baseball Siberia. It wasn’t enough that the team was a candidate for contraction by Major League Baseball. It wasn’t enough that part of the Expos’ schedule included stops at Hiram Bithorn Stadium in Puerto Rico
