As a neutral GW University Fan I watched this game and Maryland prevails in a close one.

Man I have to say that Dickie V may as well just wear a duke jersey because all he talked about is Duke. I could hear the dissappointment in his voice because Duke lost. Good Win by Maryland but a very good game by both teams.

I will give Dickie V some credit on College Gameday he did predict MD would win. MD played an excellent game and Reddick just didn't have it for Duke tonight. That was the difference.

Congrats Tortoises-you guys played the better game tonight. Apparently my lucky charm had a sorority event or something going on. :(

Was Dickie V. speaking directly to CarMike with the line: "some people accuse me of being a cheerleader, how can i not be" line towards the end of the 2nd half? I think Dickie V. has been lurking on good ole hR! ;)

BTW-i will be constantly monitoring my avatar over the next 48 hours so nobody touch!

I really don't understand alot of the darts that are thrown Vitale's way as far as Duke is concerned. Yes, he talks glowingly of them and Coach K, but when he is actually broadcasting the game, I've never, ever heard him not call it the way that it really happened, and he gives whoever Duke is playing against their props when they deserve it.

Great job by the Terps to sweep the dreaded dookies ... it's a long time coming. Helps when all their big men foul out and some clutch freebies. This better seal the deal and put them into the tourney.

Any guesses on the amount of damage that'll be caused in College Park tonight? And for extra credit - how many arrests?

They have more Cops in College park than at the Whitehouse right now so I doubt if anyone will get away with anything tonight.

The 3's were falling and duke still lost. That's how they know they were truely beaten. It sickens me the number of 3's duke takes. Sheldon williams is the best post player in the country and he rarely gets touches. Most of his points come on offensive rebounds.

I live less then a mile from campus, and I usually can tell when things are going down by the amount of PG County Police and MD. State Troopers that fly by my place when things get out of hand. It's been quiet so far.

C'mon, Sup, why not talk about how great your team played and your team's individual performances-why does everything have to come back to the Duke players and what they do or don't do?? It's like, "yeah, we won, whatever, but WHAT'S UP WITH DUKE TAKING ALL THOSE THREE'S?"

Oh and by the way, i'd like to acknowledge our rivals, Duke. Duke fans may not want to think of the terps as rivals because UMD are competetive with them. Sorry guys, but the last 10 years UMD has been far more competetive than unc.

Because i hate soft basketball. I hate players who aren't athletic and who can;t deal with contact. I hate how they are trying to play basketball as a non-contact sport. People want to know why duke players don't succeed in the nba? Look at their style. They don't give the one physical player on their team close to enough touches, and their whole offense is run through 3 point shots. When you have guys like 6-11 Shavlick Randolph shooting 3's you are soft. He should be inside at least trying to grab a rebound. Now I'm not only attacking duke. Every time Garrison takes a long jumper i cringe, but at least he goes inside and grabs some rebounds and hard earned points.

Gilchrist outrebounded Reidck, Ewing, and Melchionni combined.
28 3's for duke.

Duke has lost three in a row to Maryland. Jay Bilas is right: Maryland has ZERO fear of Duke.

If it wasn't for the Belly dancers I would have caught most of overtime...

Rioting at College Park lasted til 1AM roughly. Only a couple of fires, some rounds of paintballs shot into the crowd and I saw about 3 arrests. No serious damage done not like when we won the National Title 3 years ago.

There were a lot of arrests.

Frankly, I'm tired of the students there downgrading my status as a University of Maryland student. I saw plenty of stuff on TV that shouldn't have happened. The fact of the matter is many of those students are immature idiots. I hope there are a LOT of expulsions.

Vitale goes nuts over good teams, I realized this when he always used to scream during Carolina games then when the heels hit a rough stretch for a few years he didn't seem to have any more enthusiasm and seeing as duke has been a top program for so long it's understandable why he goes a little crazy. I wish I could remember how he was in '95 when duke stunk and '96 & '97 when they were medicore. The only time i really got annoyed w/ Vitale was the other night during the UNC-duke game when he started angrily screaming(he usually screams w/ glee) about how JJ redick was the best shooter in the Country yet JJ isn't top 5 in his own conference in 3 pt shooting and is nowhere near the leaers nationally.

Great game and a great WIN by the Terps last night.

That's 3 in a row, dookies.

Like what SaggySkins and rskinsfan10 said, Dick Vitale didn't do a bad job last night broadcasting the game. He did his normal gushing over Dook, but he was not as one sided as he has been in the past.

How can he not give props to a team that OWNS Dook.

That's right dookies.........

Maryland is tougher than a $2 steak and the scary part is they are getting better by the game. I would not be surprised at all if they win the ACC tournament again.

ACTUALLY Jero, I had a girls night with my sister, and we watched Garden State. I had the game in the pip box, to which my sister replied "Since when did you start watching basketball?" (BTW- Garden State is a GREAT movie). When I left the house at 11:15 Duke was winning. So I assumed, they'd keep it up. When I got back in, (after a rather lengthly converstation with a friend of mine on the phone) the first thing I did was see what the score was: Overtime Loss. And from the highlights I saw... i dunno what happened! BUT i say I just give them luck during regulation, if they can't pull it off, they are on there own after that! :gwink:

The best thing is they are unranked so they get to learn without pressure of maintaining a slot. I just have the gut feeling that they are gonna do it again because although their are more talented teams like UNC, Duke and Wake none of those teams are as mentally tough as Maryland.

Maryland is not there yet...but they will be soon and they will be a very tough out for anyone who plays them.

I honestly don't see us getting pass UNC in the ACC Tournament. We have no one to matchup on McCants and UNC plays our up court style better then we do.

That's exactly what I think Shaggy. A matchup with UNC will exploit us again and not having Strawberry adds to the disadvantage.

George Washington and UNC are better open court, up and down teams than Maryland and have already proven it. Toss in Wake too. Georgia Tech just got BJ Elder back and I expect they will make some serious noise in the ACC Tourney as well.

We match up well with Dook. McCray was in Redicks head all night. It's just one of those cases where the Terps get up for them like their season depends on it. Hopefully, they can bring that kind of intensity to every game, like they did last year in the Tourney.

I can't wait for this ACC Tourney, especially with it being at the MCI Center...

yeah, i may try to get a ticket for the tourney since its at the phone booth....

what a great win for the terps. i wish every team they play could wear duke jersey, that way we could be undefeated right now! the guys fought hard for that win last night, but i wouldnt be surprised if they had yet another letdown in their next game.....:(

oh and......here's a parting gift for the dookies:

incredible game, glad i got to watch it. it doesnt help duke for the fact that they had a starting lineup amount of players foul out, but great teams keep finding ways to win, which they didnt. redick certainly had an off-night(as he did miss a free throw too). it could have been so much worse except gilchrist's play dropped off in the 2nd half, but mccray stepped up.

Congrats to the Terps.

I was lucky enough to be in New York and watched the game with three people who don't cheer for either team who were amazed at the calls Maryland was getting down the stretch. Had I been around here I'm sure the Terps fans would've still complained about not getting more bogus charge calls and non-called reach ins. I think Gary has complained enough publicly that he's getting those calls he always accuses Duke of getting. Sweaty McPerspiration plays the whine card as well as anyone.

Seriously dude Coach K works the officials more then any coach in the ACC. The foul differential wasn't all that large when u look at it. Duke had 9 more fouls then MD and atleast 4 or 5 of them were picked up in overtime when u had your reserves who never play in the game. There was some questionable calls but usually the team that plays more aggresively is going to get the benefit of the doubt.

For those of you looking to get tickets to the acc tourney here is how you get them for CHEAP.
Fans of the teams buy tickets for the whole tournament. So when, say NC State loses in the first round all the wolfpack fans will have tickets to the rest of the tourney, but won't want to go. SO you wait outside of MCI for one of the 1st round games to end, and when the losing team's fans come out you approach them and tell them you will pay X amount for tickets. They will usually give them up.
