I've been waiting on this thread Dave. :D
I'll never understand this Terps team. How can they sweep dook and yet lose to NC State?

They just match up well against Dook. That and I think they get up for big games but slip a little in the "day to day" portion of the schedule.

I hear they are still helping extinguish the couch fires on Route 1. :D

I've already made mention of the Terps loss in another (Offical College Basketball) thread but don't mind hitting it hear again.
The MD team is Top25 jinxed ... as long as they are not in it, they play like a top 25 team BUT once they are in it ..... MAN - They play BAD!!!! To full of themselves IMO. ....... NOW as you know, I one of the biggest Terps fan on this site but I'm telling you now - IF Gary Williams doesn't set the team right - there will only be one round in the ACC and NO BIG DANCE to go to. AND that would be a shame considering they are one of the most talented teams in the nation.
Now about the burning the couch thing ..... .... (NOT that I condone such action) let it go though - MD is not the only school that goes over board after a big victory.
I agree-how do you lose to NC State?!
Not piling on-just asking a question.
Williams was quite critical of the Terps after this loss though ("this one is on the players", he said-ouch) and if there's one thing CarMike and i can share in our basketball prowess-it's our mutual hatred of NC State.

This is college basketball - any and all piling on accepted (most know - I do it)
BUT to answer your question ........ You come in an arena full of yourself, not ready to play, over confident, and NO intensity. For the Terps - a sure way to be blow out by a team that you should beat.

Patrick. Didn't UM play State after beating dook on both occasions? I can understand losing to them on the road. But they also beat Md pretty good in Md.
Just wondering.

Yeah they CRUSHED the Terps at home too - but once again, as I said, they were ranked, full of themselves, over confident, and played with no intensity. That good old formula for disaster.
I glad to see Gary throw it back at the players - its about time.
You get the idea I'm just a little frustrated ...... :banghead:

There aren't many that erupt in ignorance with such consistency though. I remember the good ole days when students only went nuts when they beat the number 1 team. Now you have Terps burning couches when they beat a team for the second time in the same season.

Maybe the Terps just play better as an underdog? Who knows, but I have them as a team to be conserned with come ACC tourney time. You just can't take them lightly.

I'll say this about the refereeing in the duke-umd game. It was the first step to years of justice being done.

i suppose when it comes down to it, i like it better that we beat duke and then lost to ncst rather that losing to duke and beating nc state. it shows that the team is still good, and i dont lose total confidence in them. i think we're hurt as well with not having dj strawberry, who plays excellent defense.

I just can't figure out this Terps team.
They play at times like they could bet ANYONE in the country, and then the next game, look like they couldn't beat a high school team.
Williams was right. This was on the players.
Not having D J Strawberry has hurt.
If they don't get it in gear, they will fall fast in the ACC tourny, and they just might miss out on the NCAA's.
Heck, the way they are playing now, they wouldn't last past the second round.
