On January 31 there was a poll here at hR about which position makes the most immediate impact through the first round draft choice.
WR captured 36% of the vote, followed by RB 22% and then Defensive Lineman 21%.
Since we don’t have a “free agency” forum, I’m posting this simple question:

Which free agent position will have the most impact, this time for our Team?

I am not asking which PLAYER, but rather which position!

Make your choice and if you want to explain your reasons.
Thanks

I voted O-line thinking the big name WRs are out of our range. We could get a top C though.

I chose wideout.

Offensive lineman. If we do not improve in this area we will negate the impact the flair positions can make.

went with O-line because a good o line can make a average back good, give the QB time to look through his progressions and dictate the way the game is played. Call me old school but you can't win the game if you don't win the battle upfront.

O-lineman. (preferably a CENTER)

Ramsey is only as good as his protection is. It won't matter who the new WR is, if Ramsey doesn't have time to throw the ball to him.

We need a veteran Center, BADLY....

If Samuels doesn't restructure it could be OL , with LT and C.......there is a good chance it could be WR but I'm hoping for the Draft......If Smoot goes we should pick up a young stud CB through the draft but who knows.

My thinking is that we keep Samuels, draft a CB and sign a decent WR through FA..............C could go either way

The offense has to start with a good o-line that has been a trademark of Gibbs in his glory years.

I voted Offensive line for 2 reasons, Center is a definite need and LT may be a need if Samuels goes away as well.

A close second is CB since Smoot is most likely gone as well.

IF we could afford one ........... WR.
I'm sure we'll have some FA movement but its going to be interesting to see how many "Starter" quality players we aquired. Our pass 5 year history would suggest quiet a few BUT my thought for this year is NONE - but we'll bring in solid players who'll provide depth.

Wide receiver considering how pathetic the passing game was.

We a top 5 devense but it would be the best if any pressure was put on the quaterback from the line. A corner back should never lead a team in sacks.

Without O-line, ramsey will not have time to throw.

we have to upgrade the line especially center. it would be absurd to invest money into anything else in the offense until we upgrade the line. whether that is through the FA or Draft(Jason Brown) i don't care as long as we upgrade. It makes us run better and it definitely will make a so so or "still developing" qb look good. If we can also upgrade WR then right on, but that should be second place. As far as I am concerned the defense is fine, it could always be upgraded but just having lavar back should be an upgrade in itself. The only position I am concerned about is CB, hopefully smoot comes down to earth, or we find a viable replacement.

OLine because I think we add a reciever through the draft and OL is the next need to upgrade.

I voted WR because as things are now it seems that is the first priority in free agency.

I voted o-lineman because I think we will get a C in free agency. I like the idea of drafting a center like Wilkerson or Baas but we may need to groom them for a year or two. From Gibbs' comments the other night it appears we won't be blowing big $$$ at the questionable WRs in the FA market this year (finally some fiscal sanity!!!). I started a trhead earlier that expressed my concerns over relying on FA WRs this year. Seems my concerns have been addressed. :inkston:

O-line.

If the O-line gets fixed, the receivers on the team will be better. If O-line doesn't get fixed, it won't matter who gets brought in to catch balls.

everyone needs to keep in mind that a big reason why our passing game sucked was because we didn't even try to throw downfield. You have to play to win. If we bring in porter and use the same gameplan it isn't going to make a difference. If we don't add a WR FA and change the gameplan things might actually improve on their own even with rod. So i would rather focus on the known issue - the o-line.

i went with the sexy pick (wr) but i should have gone with offensive lineman (center could be huge for solidifying our running game

WR
It's time to go verticle and throw the ball downfield.

I believe that a defensive end capable of getting 10 sacks will make a bigger difference.

The one choice you left off is perhaps the biggest difference make. The choice would be "more variety in the play calling, throwing deep,( throwing the 2 yard pass out of the playbook), AND bringing back all the players so that they actually have some consistency.

THAT will be far more valuable to ANY offense than just 1 player.

I agree. It's a simple as that. Our passing game was horrid, and a new WR could spice things up a bit.

Gibbs has won championships with smurfs and hogs. I think I'll take a Hog. Following Gibbs philosophy the 1st time around having a dominant line is a must. Everything else QB, RB and especially WR is just a plugginable part.

WR.Our WRs accounted for 6(1 of those was thrown by Portis)of the 18 recieving tds last year. That is not good. They need more production from the wr position. :Peace:

WR for me, but O line, meaning the center position, very close behind.

Voted O-line. For Gibbs' offense to become better it all starts up front. The Dirtbags better get nasty next year and knock somebody off the ball. Who knows how effective Clinton Portis can be if he's given some holes to run through. It will open up the passing game more and we should be able to score at least 20 points a game.

,

I hope its not OL, that would mean we lost Samuels, wern't able to get Barron in the draft and had to blow our wod on a LT (a very inportant high profile and expensive position). It would be nice to pick up Baas but if we don't I can't imagine a FA Centre making more impact than a FA CB or WR, and we will surely be picking up one or the other. Even with some of our core players restructuring to free up cap space I believe we will only have enough coin to sign 1 high profile player , the rest will be for debth.

WR. We need someone to compliment Coles and who can actually catch passes that hit his hands.

I'm quite certain we will deal with our OL problems in FA.

you all know our punter is the biggest impact position we got, most punts in the league baby!

Seriously i voted punter cuz it needed some love... but I dunno which impact position to improve first... first I said WR but how are we gonna run or keep dlineman off of Ramsey if we can't get a competant center (remember when our center stepped on Brunell's foot and made him fall?). Then I thought about how Springs was leading the team in sacks... our CB is leading the team sacks, whats that? So then I thought DE, then I remembered how expensive they are and all the busts that seem to spring up in the 1st round... don't need any of that.... So I dunno, just can't decide.
