Questions for you guys:
If we sign Pierce, will we release Barrow or restructure his contract?
Can someone explain the ramifications of releasing Barrow if we sign Pierce?
What kind of money would Pierce want?
If Samuels is gone, then what will we save by releasing him?
Seems like their saving up some cash to get the Jet fuel ready!!!
Glad the Skins are throwing up the smoke signals from Ashburn, alerting the fans to get ready cause something's about to happen! I can smell it.!!!! SNNNNNNN

Looks like he's set to earn just over $2mil against the cap in 05 and was paid a modest signing bonus if I'm reading this right. If we release before the June cut off I think his unpaid bonus accelerates to this year's cap. But regardless of the specifics it doesn't look terrible.

The problem is that Barrow is injured. They might have to reach an injury settlement.

Do you know the difference in cap hit between an injury settlement or a June 1 release?

i believe that an injury settlement is an agreed to sum. The Skins are charged the remaining bonus. It is just like cutting someone, but you have to reach an agreement with the player on some of the year's upcoming base salary.

Ok. If Barrow is ahead of schedule in healing his knee and we resign Pierce [PLEASE GOD] and Arrington is in top shape with Washington being todate our best linebacker what do we do? Barrow was a good MLB. and Pierce last year came out of nowhere to become a great MLB. we ain't [pardon grammer] going to no 3-4.

Injury settlement? Since he never played a down for us, I would hope that he would consider his $2.5 million bonus a settlement and go quietly into that goodnight.

who says we won't do a 3-4? stranger things have happened and if anyone could make a 3-4 be the most wicked thing ever, greg williams could.

it adds nice depth to the team if you keep Barrow, plus a little bit of leadership as well. The cost/benefit of cutting him is margainal, so you might as well keep him and have a good MLB with experience. Barrow isn't going to be around forever and his salary isn't killing the skins, so It would hurt to bad jsut to keep him.

i think that he got a 1-2 million signing bonus so the impact would not be that bad, however that being said i see no reason to cut him, just to cut him, he would give us invaluable depth if he is healthy and we decide to keep him

Considering we got most of our QB pressure this year with our LB's and corners. It might actually ease the burden he had last year with our D-Line.

Barrow signed a 6 year 14.1 million contract that had a 2.5 million SB.
Barrows 2005 cap hit is $2,156,000.If they cut him after june 1st the hit would be around $416,000(1/6th of his already payed out signing bonus) this year.Next year the remainder of his SB comes due against the cap so it would be around $1,664,000 in 2006.
If they resign Pierce to a deal,it would seem that they would be better off cutting him this year after June 1st considering he has been having a hard time recovering from his injury. :Peace:

what about trade bait? He would be a luxery at LB better spent at say OL, CB, or WR...........a draft pick would also be nice...........so whos lookin for a stud MLB?

Barrow will probably be released this year before June 1, 2006. It is only a modest cap saving if we release after June 1, 2006 and that pushes dead cap money onto 2006 which is already a tough cap year.
The key here is the signing of Clifton Smith and the comments by Barrow that the team has not told them his plan for him. Considering that Barrow did not sustain this injury playing for the Redskins fbut for a previous team I do not think that the Redskins will be required to do an injury settlement. Those are usually reserved for players hurt in pre-season that do not wish to remain the whole season on IR. Barrow's ailment is a debilitating injury that was not sustained due to the actions of the team (i.e. playing or practicing)
I think the redskins actually could go after some of the SB since Barrow was not able to perform physically but I don't think that is good for the player or the team. Barrow needs to be released and find another team if he can physiclaly perform.
