I think a guy like Kevin Dyson or Dennis Northcutt would be able to take up where we need it, right now they play for other teams, but hey, this is the offseason.

I just dont get how northcutt or dyson are better than jacobs....we basically invested a first round pick in jacobs (I know he was a high second) lets see what this kid can do given a real opprotunity....

Dyson is ALWAYS hurt...and Northcut seems to be too inconsistant.
I'd rather have one of New England's receivers. (Patten or Givens)

i agree with you. the problem, is NO ONE other than ty law seems to want to leave new england. im sure the patriots will make both those guys reasonable offers. if they turn down a reasonable offer from the patriots, do you think they would accept a reasonable offer from us? joe gibbs was adamant that we wouldnt be spending alot of money in free agency.

Jacobs and Coles on the outside and draft Reggie Brown in the 2nd or 3rd to play the slot.

Because we need a big target possession reciever that people will respect. I think some of reason we couldn't get deep was because people didn't respect our medium range passes. The only person who could make tough catches over the middle was Coles. Jacobs and Coles are both very fast, but no one has real size to catch the ball in traffic.

According to COUNCILMAN/RR, we already have a #2 in Coles, so I guess we should end this discussion, being that he knows everything and the rest of us are simply minnions occupying space in HIS world.

we may already have our #2 WR in Jocobs....if we have to use our early picks on LT,CB and C we certainly won't be drafting a #2 WR.................and we probably won't have the coin to sign a WR that is better than Jacobs although we will be able to get some debth...............with an upgraded and healthy O-Line, Ram maturing and some agressive play calling our Wrs will be better than last year anyway.

I am not sure if jacobs is the answer, i am a little concerned that he is a bit fragile. But, nevertheless I agree - we need to give him a true shot. The redskins have a history of getting talent and then trading them away right when they are ready to break out.
And I still think the biggest impact that can improve our passing game is play calling, obviously we aren't going to have a passing game if we don't pass downfield.

I like Jacobs but I'm not completely sold on him. Then again, the Broncos were sold enough on Ashley Lelie to put him into the starting rotation and he delivered. Jacobs is similar to Lelie in my oppinion.

I did a little reading on Troy Williamson, he seems like a solid pick up. Big play threat, fast, has good size...etc. I'd like to see something about if he can catch the ball in traffic and he can get yards after a hit(cause I think we need that.).
If anyone could verify that, I'd put my seal of approval on this guy(IF we decide to pick up a wide reciever). Not that it counts for much.
Could we get this guy if we traded down?

Where is he projected to go? Could we get him late in the first?
I'm a real big supporter of getting a later 1st round pick and a 2nd...I just don't feel like any of the top prospects are quite right for us(and I think we could get a strong OC with a 2nd rnd pick)

He'll probably be the third receiver taken. Mid/late first round, I'd guess.

Williamson, if he as a good combine, could go in the top ten. Especially if either Edwards or Williams has a bad one. If you're looking for a comparison for Williamson in the NFL now: a faster and tougher Anquan Boldin is probably fair.

Then I like this guy as a possibility(IF we go reciever in the 1st).
Damnit! I have tried so hard to stay away from college football(I just prefer the pros), but now I'm gonna have to start reading about it so that I can be informed. And then next year I'll start watching in preparation for the draft...Before you know it I'll stop being annoyed that there are two USCs and I'll start defending the BCS...sigh...

That's a pretty fair complement considering Boldin is pretty stout in his own right.

Williamson is thick for a wideout, but is a good deep threat. He runs a 4.4 and is around 200-220 lbs. He's listed at 200, but played heavier at SC. Good hands and TOUGH. Ive been hoping that Williamson gets ignored by the other team and the skins can drop down far and still get him; but I dont think he lasts past 14 or 15.

Here's the book on him:
"College: South Carolina
Height: 6-2
Position: Wide Receiver
Weight: 200*** ****
Class: Junior
40-Yard: 4.4
SCOUTING REPORT
Strengths: Has excellent speed...Size is above average...Was very productive in a tough conference...Has very good athletic ability...Explosive...A big play threat who can really stretch the field...Could be even better in the pros in a more open offensive system.
Weaknesses: Needs to expand his game to be more than just a deep threat...Played in a run orientated offense...Has had some minor injuries so durability could be a minor concern...Not a finished product and will need some work and coaching."

I think it's less about Williamson, and more about the SC offense last year. Or as we Cocks called it: Skip Holtz's playstation offense. He ran the same offense you'd run in NCAA Football 05. Deep passes, screens and outside runs. Williamson caught four pass patterns last year: Deep fly route, Deep post, WR screen, Deep WR screen. He did it all well. With coaching, he could be scary.

Williamson is a more pure recieving prospect than Lelie was. Lelie is just a guy who hits the deep passes, Williamson has that rep; but will be a better all around wideout.

I remember hearing that Lelie has had his share of problems with drops since entering the NFL as well. About the only thing he gives you over Gardner is speed for a legitimate deep threat.

Not to beat a dead horse, but is the concensus that Mike Williams will just not be there at #9? I'd say about 15% of the mock draft boards list him as our pick (yeah, what do they know?). Now he's a possession WR - 6'5 / 225!
Having said that, there has been a turning of the tide in the mock draft toward Williamson. Imagine - three, very fast WRs - now that's sending a message about where our offense is going.
I bite also - RR=?

That nots necessarily the consensus. But I think alot of people feel it might be more worth while to trade down and get more picks(ESPECIALLY if he isn't there). But there are many options we could pursue here, it all really depends on what happens in FA.
