Since Coles is leaving, I think we should keep Gardner for another year, since he is at least proven..
thoughts?

No he's garbage. We need a fresh start with new WRs.

Still will be gone. Regardless of Coles, Gibbs and Gardner are not a match because of Gardner's inconsistency and proneness to drop passes.

The only way Rod can stay is if the Skins get NO-ONE either in the draft or FA at WR.

The way the read the Coles article, this has been in the works for a while - so they knew this when they allowed Rod to look for a trade. It looks like we'll have two new starting WR next year (maybe one is on the roster in Jacobs).

I like Jacobs, he reminds me of Ashley Lelie of Denver, but he has to be a #2 at most. Jacobs as our #1 is suicide.

Joey Galloway and Derrick Mason are the two WR on Gibbs radar now.
Galloway can still stretch the field and can return a punt or two because Chad Morton is gone too.

I'll take Derrick Mason over Galloway any day. Gall can't stay healthy!!! I am also on record as saying that I would like to see Plax as a redskin but given our cap situation, I don't know that he's a good idea either. And forget Porter, Moose etc...thos guys will cost way too much. If Bruce is cut and available for cheap then we need to snatch him up fast(asuming he's as good on grass as he is on turf).

why not keep Rod it makes me scared to think that we have a FA vet and/ or a drafted rookie who have not played for our team as the best options. taylor will move to #2 but we should keep rod around. He does do some good things

Rod probably stays until a move is made at WR. And Galloway is coming off of a groin tear. Forget him.

I think it is suicide to head into the season w/2 unproven starting receivers. But I'm quite sure Gibbs will get at least 2 receivers via free agency to compensate for our losses. Gardner has already asked to leave so I don't consider him an option to stay.

NO!!! . . . It's time to rebuild the entire WR core. But in your defense . . . Gardner did have a pretty good year when he was the "Number 1" reciever. I think his stats that year were:
2002
GP: 16
GS: 15
Catches: 71
Yards: 1,006
YPC: 14.2
Long: 43t
TD: 8
NO MATTER, we NEED to sign at least on real good reciever.

LMAO. Did you see my post on Rod in the Coles thread?
"I would post something about how Rod Gardner could take this opportunity to show that he could be a good Wideout and focus more: But I wouldnt mean it. He cant."

So Rod's bad attitude comes from his surfing Fan boards and crying at the criticism of him we do here?

I agree, Rod is probably using all of the focus he can right now just to figure out what day of the week it is.

If the Redskins were going to keep a discontented wideout it would be Coles. If Coles and Gardner both want out then they'll both be gone. I'd be surprised if Gardner wasn't aware that Coles would likely end up leaving.

no. rod is history. lets start from scratch and get the guys GIBBS wants.

Rod is a #2, at best. I think Jacobs or McCants (likely another cap casualty) can do at least as well as he can. If we can get a 3rd rounder for him or better, then great. Unfortunately, releasing Coles into an unspectacular pool of FA WRs probably diminishes Gardner's value somewhat.

Ok, so is Rod really that dumb or is he a druggie or something? I mean this guy just strikes me as a dimly lit bulb. If his focus isn't foot ball, what the heck is it???

He went to Clemson. That says it all for me.

I think one thing we're all forgetting (myself included) is Gibbs said that if he didn't feel that we would get what he considers a fair deal for Gardner that they wouldn't make a deal. So the way I see it is that if the Redskins are offered nothing more than a 4th round pick for Gardner, we'll see him in a Redskin uniform next year. However, my gut feeling is that he'll get shipped out for a 3rd round pick.

And then it's only 50-50 that he stays. Hey, isn't that ironic?

if coles is gone and goes with easing any cap hits, i think it would be prudent to keep gardner around for next season, he is pretty cheap anyways. we will most likely pick up a FA WR (porter) and use our #9 pick for a WR. So then we have Porter, Jacobs and Gardner with our #9 pick slowly being brought into the mix. Gardner may not be super reliable but he could be a sturdy #3 and it is his contract year....

no argument there...
as for releasing coles diminishing Gardner's trade value: I didn't wanna admit it while coles was still on the team... but that bum toe of his diminishes his value greatly. He's not the same receiver I saw in spurrier's offense and if nobody else around the league noticed, well then, they're blind. I know he has heart and thats amazing since he apparently hates us so much that he wants to leave  but heart isn't enough to be a #1 receiver or else Thrash would've been the best there ever was.

You can't tell a player "we're going to trade you"; then change your mind because the situation changes [with Coles].
The team made a decision that Gardner isn't going to be a future player, they won't go back from that.
Gardner is a decent #2 WR. He has also been inconsistent and probably will get no better than he is now. He peaked several years ago. We can do better.

I think they can get the same out of Thrash as they would get out of Gardner if they let him start every game this year (not saying that's what we should do). Gardner is very inconsistent and seems to dissapear when we need him. Also his role in the Sean Taylor incident last year gives us some idea where his priorities lie.
