5=same....1=big decline......9=big upgrade

QB- 7 (Ram is maturing and upgraded O-Line)
RB- 6 (upgraded O-Line)
FB- 5
WR- 6 (talent may be similar but upgrade O and new O scheme are a plus)
TE- 6 (Royal finished wit a bang)
HB- 7 (Cooley now seasoned + new O scheme)
OT- 9 (Jansen)
OG- 6 (Dockery will be better with new C)
C- 9

DT- 5
DE- 5 (will probably be upgraded)
OLB- 9 (Lavar)
MLB- 4 (Pierce did fantastic but Barrow could do as good or better,
might be gone then we take a wicked decline)
CB- 5 (if we loose Smoot we will pick up Pac Man or Rolle which will be
an upgrade for next year but average out for 2005)
S- 7 (a seasones Taylor and Bowen back)

looks like we're holding our own, the O-Line will make a huge difference for several positions.

good but a few things i'd change:

1. despite the fact that Coles has proven himself to be a donkey, make no mistake about the numbers he put up under the Jets, then spurrier and gibbs even with brunell. he was a more talented receiver, one of the league's best. Glad he's gone. Gardner dropped a few, caught a lot, and never missed a game (cant say that about Moss). the jury is still out on the new receivers tandem, whomever that may be.

2. you can pencil in Lavar under "upgrade at defensive end". I assume you mean pass rush, because Phillip Daniels will be there to stop the run.

3. i do not think there will be a decline at middle linebacker, with or without Barrow.

IMO, it's way to early. We just aqcuired 3 players. It's just the 6th day of FA. The draft is still over a month away.

Very good Wolf. I do see some historical value in what happened in 1982, but will avoid it for it now, but getting Patten, instead of Gardner IS an upgrade. Height is an advantage I cannot deny, but outmuscling corners isn't what is at play here. It isn't in the cards yet, but it is clear Smoot is now doing a Coles, he is waiting for the right moment to say goodbye with venom.

How?

Should we not sign him (letting him know he's free to go where wants, but don't look us up anymore) and instead latch onto a corner come draft day, we are in good shape, but history will record it in a one line section, that we let him go, period. Not that he stalled signing, then decided to make his trip around the country. He'l we even start talking with his agent while they were playing November! This is an attempt to get as much attention as possible (he had to wait for Coles tantrums to end), and push that envelope for as much as they can get, yet hold them there as INSURANCE against any bad offers or ones he can't get.

Well by the time he gets back, we won't have enough to sign him, but we will have enough, by league Rules, forgiveness to the cap limit - ONLY AFTER the Draft, to sign one of the top 5 receivers AND PAC-Man and a decent DE. I will not play all the options, but we all know the 3 main positions sought to be filled at this moment, and yes it is becoming much clearer, Smoot is gone, but his eyes led him to this.

just trying to give this board a little bit of a positive spin, all this talk of how bad we are and how the Cowgirls and Giants are upgrading was making me sick.......just wanted to put things in perspective :)

i think the biggest thing, biggest change, biggest upgrade, is the offensive line really has no question marks right now. knock on wood.

that is so true and the sweet part of that is it makes Ram, Portis, Cooley, Royal and out entire WR core better..............I'm gettin all excited again,,,
are we gonna tear up the league this year or what?

I agree with just about everything except we need to upgrade from bowen at SS.

A blocking TE that can overpower people would be nice as well.
