they only want a 2nd for him...what do you think of trading the 06' second? he had 11 sacks last year starting only 12 games as isn't just a pass rusher, he can stop the run...some heat on the opposing qb wouldn't hurt now that we don't have two shut down corners

I'd rather give a '06 2nd rounder for him than the '04 2nd rounder we gave up in the Portis deal. Still, he'd want a contract will a nice SB, which I don't think we can do right now. Unless, he was willing to get the league minimum for the first 2 years.

pass rushing DEs want too much money. no way.

we have plenty of space now...especially next season..give him a big chunk of his salary in 06'...not like we're spending on anything right now...might as well use the space

if we can't afford Smoot there is no way in hell we will be able to swing a deal for Howard

First we'd have to actually have a second rounder... If we get one I don't think it will be til draft day by trading down from 9.

we could afford smoot our FO just didn't want to up his offer...he have a huge amount of space in 06' give him a healthy sb and min this year then a bigger number in 06' then the rest of the contract can balance out.

He said in '06, which I think we still have.

Oh, you're right, sorry I glossed over that. But I think it would take more than an 06 2nd rounder b/c a next year pick has a lot less value than a this year pick, I would imagine that the 2nd round asking price is exclusive to this year.

Howard was a FRANCHIZE PLAYER in '04 this will guarantee $7.8 million a year starting bid.
N.O. can trade him for a cup of coffie but we still have to sign him. Slavery ended in the '70s man.

No F'n way can we get this guy, unless Arrington, Samules, and Springs all chip in 1/2 of their '05 pay.

But it could happen.... :lol3:

Yeah Howard would look awesome in a Skins uniform, but the whole time I was reading that I knew we couldn't afford him. Move on and forget about it I guess.

No space and he is a luxury we can't afford at this point.

Too expensive. Can do without. We can draft a DE who can be better and cheaper. By the way, I like you new name ramsey2moss

We cant afford him in 05, and we would have to pay his tender amount AT LEAST.

His cap hit for 05' wouldn't be as high as his current tender amount...people that are franchised never have a cap hit as high as their tender offer for a long term contract...at least i've never heard of one...the sb is spread out and the base salaries can be fiddled with...we have tons of space in 06' not much this year but we're not right up against it either...i'm sure if snyder wanted to he could find a way to play with the contract...bigger problem is we don't have the 05' 2nd rounder and as someone pointed out the 06' 2nd doesn't have as much value right now

we would have to pay the tender amount or give him a bigger deal. We cant afford that.

Not the #9

Not OUR #9.

If we had to draft a DE he would be a much better option. This year's DE draft is the worst I can remember. Funny too, because I'd love to draft a DE. Howard is waaaay better than any DE on the board . (IMO)

If we were a DE away from being a contender I would say yes but we have other holes and we need our picks.

Ok maybe we can trade down pick up a 2nd and the trade our new #1. A number 9 draft pick would cost about as much as he would??

yes a bigger deal but spread out over several years...the avg. cap hit wouldn't be 7+ million
