i know this past year there were times portis was upset with the way he was used ,or at least i read that he was ,never heard him say that, if he was upset
then i cant must blame him. this year if we play anything like we did last year
how long do you think it will be before portis wants out of town. after seeing how rich coles got with leaving town , so i say this year if we dont win and portis doesnt get those 1,500 yards then maybe he will want out also.
what do you think ?

I doubt it if you remember why coles left it was because he was selfish Portis has already displayed some unselfish acts and he gets the ball 300 times a year anyway so even if he was selfish he still gets his carries

Portis cap hit numbers, 2005 thru 2010:
2.386 5.476 6.431 7.495 8.557 7.690 8.754
i dont think he'll want out but these recent turn of events have left me sour. Everyone wants the ball and he'll get it plenty. the line has improved. we should start winning more and that cures everything. i think he'll be happy but these days who knows anymore?

I doubt it Portis is just in it for the money he will play wherever he gets paid. Heis getting paid here now

Highly Unlikely because Portis numbers are bound to go up with a better O-Line and even in his bad year last year he put up very good numbers.

I dont even want to think about it. Any one of the guys that we have given big bonuses could screw us like Coles did. Coles' action opened up the door for others to do the same thing.

In the future I think teams will be less accomodating. If I were snyder I would have found a way to trade him to NFL Europe or the CFL.

Switch to decaf. Coles didnt get a huge new deal from the Jets-the offense is geared to him....he isnt going anywhere.

I'm not going to speculate on possible negatives... but I will say that in the FA era it is tough to really like certain players because they leave so quickly. Gone are the days of Monk, Coleman, Grimm, Jacoby, Mann, Green, etc... And I for one am very sad. I wish the NFL would make a rule that if a player stays with a team for 10 years they no longer count against the cap. That would enable teams to have a couple guys spend their entire career in one place.

Is there potential for Portis to pull a Coles in the future?
I think so.
I hope not.

Now that would have been quite interesting.....http://www.uptoparr.com/phpbb/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

portis wont....look at the oline. Jansens back and our center took over for a center that helped get jamal lewis over 2000...plus gibbs is definitly going to adapt to portis opver the break. He knows he should stay.

You do get a cap 'discount' so to speak with veteran players, but I dont think it takes into account there team history.

Why even start a thread like this? Haven't we been through enough in the last few days? This team has done nothing in free agency but gear this offense more towards Portis, which is a good thing.

portis is not a stat guy. he has openly stated that he doesnt care about stats. a newspaper a while back did a interview of him and asked how he felt about becoming the first back in nfl history to have three 1500 yard seasons in their first year. he said something along the lines of that would be great but he doesnt really care about states. something like stats are not his thing. if someone remembers it more in detail help me out.
so no this is not going to happen. portis loves gibbs. gibbs loves portis. the entire offense is centered around portis.

#1- Upgraded Healthy O-Line
#2- New Scheme, Teams will no longer be able to stack the box or we will beat them deep or to the outside.
Portis will have 1500+ yrds on the ground and over 2000 all purpose yrds. IMO .........That should make for a happy CP, I know it will make me happy :)

Casey was a backup when Jamal got 2000...he just broke into the starting lineup last year.
That aside... I agree that Portis will stay. he is here because we value him and use him. In Denver he was underpaid and viewed as a product of the system. As long as he gets the big bucks and we tell him how great he is, he will be happy.(winning doesn't hurt either.)
and Casey is a very good center(he maintained the job after the Raven's starter got healthy)

it could happen, but with his signing bonus, portis is not going anywhere unless he restructures.

one of Coles' gripe was how the coaching staff was putting emphasis in Portis attaining 1,500 yards last season but didn't bother trying to get Coles his 1,000. Portis is the focal point of this offense.

This is so beyond speculation there's no need to comment.

i just think this whole thing with coles , has given any player that is unhappy about anything ,an idea that hey demand a trade and maybe i can work a deal like coles did.

Remember 1,500 in the AFC West = 1,300 in the NFC East. Clinton will be ok.

I don't think so.....I seriously doubt that Portis won't rush for at least 1600 this year...ok, a little optimistic but I think people are really gonna realize what Rabach, Jansen, and another year of Buges' tutoring.

i agree with most of the comments. i think that if any skin is smiling in this offseason it has to be CP. He has to be thinking, hmmm gibbs is putting lots of attention into our line, we lost our #1 possesion receiver and replaced him with a burner, sounds like the offense is being set up for me. so even if he is selfish he is gonna be one happy skin.

OMG.........is the ski falling? Did the fat lady sign? Are the planets out of alignment? Did the goat entrails look bad this morning?
1. OL will be vastly improved ---- much better center, return of Jansen, actual continuity, Bugels
2. QB will be better - Ramsey vs. Brunnell. Ramsey will be able to throw long passes and actually hit someone.
3. WR group will be more consistant and faster / if they get Williams or Edwards or Willamson, we will have a scary WR crew
4. Joe Gibbs will get better at play-calling.
5. Betts will get the ball a good deal, taking the hits off of Portis.
So for Portis - what's not to like?
Re-read those goat entrails, it's all good.
