I will be working the door at Mackey's in Crystal City. I can only be blamed if I let you in underage (No Joe) not if you drink too much.

Tomorrow is the Founders Day of my Sorority! (YAY DPhiE!!!) So we get all pertied up, wear out pins, and have a special event (which was actually held Tonight- Deepher Dude... the male beauty pagent... which was quite a success). Then its off to one of the sisters houses for corn beef and cabbage. And maybe a "water" or two. I'm not Irish.... but on thursday I will be :gwink:

Im Irish-Basque-Viking. And the Basques were lost Irish fisherman, and the Vikings look for any excuse to drink. And I live in South Carolina....but frankly, St. Patty's day is for amateurs.

Does that mean you will be abstaining from alcoholic beverages tomorrow?

Due to my polish last name, I got so sick of explaining my irish roots on St. Patty's day. Now that so many people have seen me drink, they don't question it. I only hope to not be needed all the way until last call so I can have a few.
Sidenote: No self-respecting Irish bar would ever serve green beer.

No self respecting Irish bar would go over the top with St. Patty's day unless to make money. I grew up in an Irish neighborhood and it was less "I'm number drunk!!!" and more of a early spring BBQ.

Somewhere, buried deep in my heritage, there's a wee bit of Irish...surely you can tell by looking at me? :D
Anyway, I remember when I was young (and stupid) this used to be a big day for partying...but now that I'm old (and stupid) I will be taking my son to soccer practice by way of celebrating....
DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE, because Mom doesn't have any money for bail

Enjoy Responsibly -- Mom doesn't have bail money and I have no sympathy what so ever for drunk drivers.

I like St. Patrick's Day as much as the next fellow, but I have to say these green neckties just are not working. I'm watching Irish President Bertie Ahern speaking at the White House and his solid green tie is hurting my retinas. Mr Bush's green-and-white tie is even worse.

I'm with you on that one, RD. There's a Bennigans (ugh) up the street from me and you wouldn't believe the line to get in on St. Paddy's night for the green beer. It's so "Faux Irish TGI Fridays Does St. Paddy's Day".

What is wrong with green? you should see me with my cat in the hat like Guiness hat.I don't have a problem with green, it's just my sartorial belief that bright green neckties are a bad idea. Green clothing of all kind should be subdued.

My last name is STOUT...so you can tell I love the holiday.
For the record, I love green beer. In fact, I have some green food coloring here at the house that I intend to dye some brewskis this afternoon.

LOL...I actually don't have Guinness in the house. Most likely I'll "try" to die some Red Hook Amber ale and some Harp. (I didn't plan ahead this year. ;))

St. Patrick’s Day, like New Year’s Eve (and now Halloween) are complete amateur hours out on the town. I allow the amateurs these three days to have their fun, and I’ll take the other 362 nights for mine. That being said, I did spend the day as the “Tour Manager” for some musician clients of mine as they went on their 5 venue tour yesterday. They started at 9AM at a bar in St. Paul and ended at 2AM at a bar in Minneapolis, with 3 other gigs in between. Here is their “tour”:
9:00-10:00 at The Liffey (1 set)
11:30-12:30 at The Landmark (1 set)
1:30-4:30 at The Dubliner (3 sets)
6:00-9:00 at O’Donovan’s (3 sets)
10:30 - 2:00 at Kieran’s (3 sets)
I actually got to the first bar at 7:30AM to help get things set up, then I drove them around, dealt with parking issues and crowd control, loaded gear, got food and water for them and handled their cd sales (they sold a ton) and the cash that it generated. So although I wasn’t in my office at all, it was hardly a day off and my feet are really sore today.
Over the course of the 19 hour day, in which I drank only water and Coke, I got to see a lot of stuff that you wouldn’t see any other day. Here is my Good, Bad and Ugly list from yesterday.
Good
-Kids Irish Dancing
-Adults Irish Dancing
-an old man singing “Danny Boy”
-young kids playing Irish Traditional music on fiddle and tin whistle
-bagpipes played outside
-people making room in a crowded bar so a kid in wheel chair could get up close to the stage
-musicians singing Irish Rebel tunes
-an Irish band covering a Rage tune
-People going home in cabs and on the free buses
-Cops pulling over people who should have gone home in cabs or on the free buses (2 times)
Bad
-Green Plastic derbys
-an old guy dressed as a leprechaun
-“Kiss Me, I’m $hitfaced” buttons
-“Irish Today, Hungover Tomorrow” buttons
-Green beer
-Corned Beef and Cabbage
-bagpipes played inside
-People not making room for the guy hauling heavy gear (me) out of the bar when the band was done
-Drunk Drivers (more than 1)
Ugly
-a Union Jack
-long lines for the bathroom and the behavior that it leads to
-a drunk couple in their 40's playing tongue hockey (of course I watched, it might be the only hockey I get to see this year.)
-someone puking in the street (more than 1)
-the 20-something girl standing right in front of me who kept sticking her hand down the back of her own pants to adjust her ill-fitting green thong. It must have been too small, because she wasn’t
