View Full Version : How long will Gibbs stick around?

he said he's committed to at least 5 years with the skins (I believe that's the length of the contract)

Now, honestly, how long do you guys think he'll be with the team:

3 years?
5 years?
More than that?

Is there any chance that he'll want to stay after the 5 years are up? I hardly think 3 seasons are enough to turn this thing around. How many years will Gibbs dedicate to this team?

(I wish I could have added a poll with this thread)

4-5 years as head coach, but he is preparing the team for the long haul including (i hope) handing the reigns to GW.

I think he'll finish out his contract in a coaching capacity and will then either GM(he seems to like that role) or just be pres of the Skins for many years while GW is the head Coach.

At least another 3 years as HC, with a possible exception coming if he can take us to the promized land sooner. Then, I think, he'll remain on as team president.

think he will stay until, we get back to winning ,once we are back he will step down and greg williams will step in.

I think this is about right with one exception. IF we win a superbowl he will retire as coach ala Vermeil and let Williams take over early.

i think that he will be here for 4-5 years but i dont think he will leave immidiately after he wins a ring. he will stay 1 maby 2 seasons after he wins the sb. he will stick around and "enjoy" the winning team he put together and shove it back in everyones face that told him he couldnt do it or couldnt make it in todays nfl. then hand it over to williams where we continue to win sb.

He has said this many times. He intends to work his contract. he will be here for another 4 years.

If Gibbs said at least five years then he'll be here at least five years. What about him being a man of his word don't people get?

why are we discussing this when Gibbs addressed this point blank about a month/month and a half ago?

Just wanted to hear some opinions. Who know what will happen 2 or 3 years from now. Did anyone expect an offseason like this. I'm not saying that Gibbs will not keep his word, just that things are very unpredictable nowadays.

I believe he used a term like "a least"......so I have to go with Lady in that he very well could be here an xtra year

That would be great :)

I'm more worried about how long we can hold onto GW as an assistant. If GW leaves in the next year or 2, I say good riddance. But if 3-4 years down the line he wants to be a head coach and we have a chance of losing him. Gibbs will only have 1-2 years left on his contract, I think he should step aside. I'd rather have 5 more years with GW than 1 with Gibbs.

...Please don't hurt me... :inkston:

is he back... Fred Smoot is that you???

Gibbs might stay longer than 5 if his health is good.. after this offseason in losing a couple "core" players, he might be fearing this will take longer than expected.. G. Williams on the other hand...

If his health allows him to keep up with head coaching, i think he may do a 10 year stretch, I look for him to stay on in some official capasity even after he leaves the head coach position.

I believe that Gibbs is going into the front office after 2 more seasons.

The Skins are likleyto make the playoffs this year........but not get to the Superbowl. In any event 2 straight years of playoffs will qualify Gibbs to say that he has returned the team to the promised land...........

Greg Williams is head coach in 2 years..Gibbs will be a GM or consultant or whatever.

Mmm...I don't think that will happen. Gibbs has said that he wants to return to racing after football. Also, if Gibbs is sitting in the FO, then the next coach will LITERALLY be in his shadow. I don't think ANY coach will want that too badly...

Ugh... this thread is more worn out that the right hand of a lonely 40 year old man.

Gibbs signed for 5 years. Gibbs had assured the fans he's here at least for 5 years. Gibbs is not leaving us until his contract is over.

Can we retire this discussion already? (No pun intended)

First, there is now way GW hangs around for 4-5 years, especially if the 'Skins start winning. Second, and I hate to say this, there is no way Gibbs hangs around until the end of his contract. If they keep losing, he'll leave and the end of year two or three. If they turn it around, I say 4 years. Five years is a long time if you don't need the money or the headaches.

Depends on his health. Full committment if healthy, ends sooner if not. Doubt winning or losing plays much of a part in the decision actually. But I really liked bwparker's posting. I also think if it's better for the Redskins organization's future that Gibbs no longer is the head coach then I believe he will step down as in the senario painted by bwparker.

However long, it will not be long enough, but I pray Williams is still here to take over and Buges will hang around a couple more seasons to make the transition for Williams easy.
