Of course MSNBC couldn't wait to put this story on their site since Microsoft is surely loving this news.

Maybe not, if anything this really will probably make sony want to release the PS3 even sooner.

I don't understand how damages to the smaller company constitutes stopping sony from producing and distributing anymore units.

If I understand correctly, it has to do with the fact that Sony essentially refuses to pay the judgement because they are appealing it. I guess the judge is saying we will not allow you to continue to make money on this while not respecting the order of the court. It probably doesn't help that Microsoft settled with the company awhile back and has moved on. Sony seems to be taking the "we are going to do whatever we want" approach despite what you say IMO.

Yeah, Sony was told to pay them earlier too and they didn't and that's why the damages are at $90 million now (interest). Sony is using technology in their units that belongs to another company. They should just license the patent the company holds and move on from there.

Is this going to affect Sony selling PlayStation games, and is this just for PlayStation or does it also involve PS2?
