With the loss/gain (however you may see it) of Courtney Brown to the Denver Broncos, and the loss of Antonio Pierce and Fred Smoot to the Giants and Vikings respectively, it seems like the Redskins are having a subpar offseason. After being outbid by other teams for players, these Redskins do not look like any other owned by Snyder. So who do the Redskins go after in free agency now? Do they sign anyone?

no.

Let's see. The Iggles have had a much quieter offseason with the exception of losing 4 or 5 players. Same with the Pats. Can you name any major acquisitions the Steelers have made?

I guess my point is, there's a difference between being gaudy and being prudently restrained. Compared to the teams I just mention, who BTW, had the same amount of losses combined as we had wins, I'd say we're making quite a bit of noise. Personally, I like the quiet.

Just because we didnt pick up the usual 8-10 players at 12:01 on the first day of free agency does not mean we've had a subpar offseason. Okay so we lost a few "core skins," one could argue that we are better now (or will be after the draft). In a perfect world we would pick up andre dyson (who is at the very least sa good as smoot) and then go reciever or DE in the draft. :jetsuk:

As far as FA goes, I think we will stand fast till June 1, and then only to fill depth not able to be filled in by the draft. the coaching staff will have a good feel for the team by then and might pick up one or two players to shore up depth issues.

if anything appears then you might want to jump on it, but don't be stupid.

In years past we have splurged a bit in the free agent market and I don't think it has always paid off. I think the FO has done a good job this offseason and we will be better for it. Lets not forget how big the Samuels deal was. Patten is no TO but hes a winner and a solid player who should be good for the clubhouse. Rabach is much needed patch for the line.Coles left but we got Moss in return. Sure it hurt to lose Smoot and Pierce (especially Smoot) but we can't keep them at the cost of mortgaging our future. This offseason gives me the feeling that our front office actually stands for something now. As opposed to signing everyone as quickly as we can with overpriced bonuses. A lot of times players RAPE organizations for as much money as possible leaving a franchise crippled in years to come. At least now when we get a player I feel like its on our terms. I think JG has brought this back to our organization. And with that I think we get a better caliber more loyal player that we can be proud to call a Redskin and one of our own.

The fact remains that, the reason we are not losing our minds this year is because we can't. But that is something that's going to work out for our benefit...getting back to what made teams better in the past, The draft.

Why must the Redskins sign every FA to be considered to have a great offseason? What good has it done for us in the past?

I'm loving this off season so far.

I just want Andre Dyson on the team to give me some insurance that Harris won't go down and as much as we blitz, we get buuuuuuuuuurnt. That would give us depth there (Wilds is good too) and that would pretty much lock us getting a WR in the draft.

This first round of free agency is over on 4/15, I believe.
It looks to me like we are done until the draft, then we will see what happens in June.

Note below "This offseason gives me the feeling that our front office actually stands for something now.". This comment is so insightful, because it really sums the whole ball of a wax up, doesn't it? In one sentence it tells us we aren't going to mortgage the future for aging big-names. It tells us that we're going to respect our other players by fairly and equally applying salary across the structure. Isn't this what we've all been hoping for? That the FO actually stands for something? Isn't this what we hoped Gibbs could accomplish within the organization? A+ post man! You NAILED it. Now we've just got to make it happen on the field and NO ONE will be able to take cheap shots at our organization anymore.

Way to go!

I think this has been our best offseason in years. We improved areas that needed improving (read: OL), and we let the greedy guys go to other teams. I'm glad we didn't go out and just throw money into the wind.

Let's forget FA's for awhile, and shift our focus to the draft. That's where we are really going to fill out the rest of this team.

The lead up to the draft and the waiver wire cuts are the only likely sources of player movement between now and training camp. As Gibbs gets a feel for what his rookies can do after the draft in the mini-camps, we will look at positions that need help. Any injuries in camp will also figure into the mix as well. Hopefully we can stay relatively healthy this year and do some things.

All those Iggles draft picks scare me though. They can pretty much do whatever they want in the draft, they have like 4 billion picks.....

I for one don't want to win the "Offseason SuperBowl" again. Considering the loss of personal, I think we're having a good offseason. Maybe we'll get out of salary cap hell with this lack of spending.

We spends lots of money on FA's and what does it get us? Losses. We could walk down the same road but it's not going to take us to where we want to go, so we try a little different strategy that isn't on paper looking like a great move. To me the facts are revealed like this:

1) We simply didn't have the money to spend like last year to make alot of noise

2) Of the three players who we lost the sting hurt but it can be fixed. We will find a new go-to guy for Coles in Patten, Moss, Jacobs, D Mac, and possibly even Gardner either individually or combined between them all. We will find a new Pierce in our current personnel with hopefully the return of Barrow or a shining new star. We have addressed these questions except for Smoot and most expect as I do we will draft at the 9th spot a new and improved player that will fill Smoots shoes. Of the losses by April 25th we will have the answers to these losses in place by then and feel good about ourselves.

3) We have addressed our O-Line by adding and resigning key components. The Redskins will be a run first team again next season and with this new line we should see improved results with it. Improvement in the running game will make for more wins next season.

4) Unless something catostrophic happens we will not have to suffer with Brunell any time next season.

Combine all of these things and I believe it will ensure us our first winning season in the new century. Buckle up everyone, this will be a fun ride!!!
