but in a very good way!
By way of the Miami Herald:
Quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BALERE LANGUAGE ACADEMY
The school received a $5,000 grant from the NFL's Sean Taylor, a former University of Miami football player, for its after-school program. Taylor, of the Washington Redskins, donated the money to the school's after-school program, which will be used to develop new programs for those students who remain in the care of school personnel until their moms and dads are able to pick them up.
The school will use the donation to provide the materials and resources needed to make the after-school program more meaningful for students. The school will provide extra-curricular activities, including tutorials, homework help sessions and enrichment projects.

a 5000 dollar tax deduction is peanuts to him. I doubt that was the reason.

I've always love the guy and defended everything that happened last year when people were down on him (except the potential DUI). For all I care he can switch agents every other week... The stuff people were up in arms about is small potatoes.
Tax deduction or no, great move by ST!

Jeez, Sean Taylor is such a punk.
Just kidding. Good going, Sean. Tax deduction or not, it's always good to see people who have money give some of it back to the community.

He's has to be paying a ton in taxes, a 5000 dollar write does not matter to him.

I was serious about my LC comment. ST did us a favor. I'm sure that's part of why that crybaby wanted to leave town. Good riddance!

I wouldn't expect a person still being claimed as a dependent on their parent's tax return to understand that $5k does little for reducing tax liability when the person in question makes millions.
I just don't understand questioning the motives of a charitable act......

And there are much more effective way to get a deduction. Especially if you have that much money. What is telling is that I didnt hear about Taylor bringing the cameras in for the publicity.

You should have seen Smoot's watch at last year's draft party. It was as big as him. All Platinum and diamonds.

Look there are a ton of NFL players that can afford the contribution, deduction or no. Sean is one of the good guys that did a good thing. Give the kid a break 2Cooley. I don't hear KWII doing anything good after being home all year.

Clearly, he needed the extra $300K or whatever from Minnesota. After all, he's got kids to feed.

Its was white leather band and the watch itself was about 5 inches long and 4 inches wide. All Platinum studded with diamonds. He let me wear it for a second. I knew as soon as I saw it he would leave for more money. I would like to point out that Lavar, even just after he signed his massive deal(15+ million bonus) had on a rolex, but nothing flashy. And no real bling. Tells you a lot about people.

when you're as big and bad as lavar, people know it. when you're smaller than me (as smoot is) you've got to throw the bling out there to get noticed. i'd have thought he was a college age fan if i had just randomly seen him there.

That would've been some great inside info during the whole "Is Smoot Staying" saga. Did you post anything on that? Oh, and if you've got a pic of that watch, I'd love to see it.

Man when I read the title of this..where all of the entries into the different forums is ...I was like LAAWWD not again!!...But that is good to hear that an athlete does care about mothers and fathers with children going to school....
And I'm assuming that he didn't ask the media to attend cause they probably would have gotten the story wrong anyway.....
My Man is learing the system .. way to go Sean. Very admirable.

I'm thinking this must've hit close to home for him to be his initial donation out of the gate. Maybe this was him 10 years ago at that school?
